On the other side, Kageura and his team were reviewing their plan one last time. It consists of Kitazoe (Gunner) and Ema (Sniper) keeping their distance while Kageura (Attacker) will engage in close-combat. Ema glanced at Kageura with dull eyes and replied, "I'm sure. I doubt that person is that competent enough to take us down."
Kageura gritted his teeth and shouted, "You better be right. I'm gonna wipe that smirk off his damn face."
Kitazoe and Hikari Nire (Kageura Squad Operator) just watched the two bicker back and forth until the match started.
Now we head back to the Rank Wars Room, where various agents had seated waiting for the start of the show. Even veteran agents can be seen such as Arashiyama, Miwa, and Jin.
In the commentary booth, a young woman started, "Today, this B-Rank Wars site is filled with hot, hot air of excitement from the Border agents, who came to see this outrageous challenge. I'll do play-by-play today since my schedule opened up again. This is Sakurako Taketomi from Ebina Squad. To my right is the grad student sniper—Captain Azuma from Azuma Squad.
Azuma commented, "Thank you."
Sakurako asked, "Now, Azuma-san. Concerning this challenge, what do you think will happen?"
Azuma thought for a moment before answering, "This could be another rookie overstepping his boundaries. Most challenges like this usually happen whenever there's a special event for A-rankers. The last one, I believe, should be when they were looking for a candidate for the Black Trigger-Fujin. We all know, it fell into the hands of Tamakoma's Jin. But this newcomer could surprise us as nothing is absolute."
Sakurako gasped, "You mean?! This could lead to the Kageura Squad losing?"
Azuma nodded, "Could be. The rookie seems confident in his abilities and I heard this all started because Kageura-san was doing his usual antics again."
Various agents heard the comment about Kageura and had a unified sigh in their heads as they were also targeted by him before.
Arashiyama sighed, "Kageura-kun's recklessness never stopped. Now we have this mess. This is not a good PR move."
Kitora next to him replied, "Kageura-senpai is very unruly. Now this problem can only be fixed after the match."
On the other side of the room, Mikumo and his team were watching and listening to the commentary. To their side, Wednesday, Enid, and Nitocris were sitting down.
Yuuma put his hands behind his head as he leaned back and said, "Heh. I can't wait to see this!"
Chika worriedly said, "I hope Y/N will be okay. He's so nice to talk to."
Mikumo nodded, "Yes, we should cheer for his victory. He's very brave to challenge a former A-Rank team. I heard from Jin-san that Kageura-san doesn't have a good reputation with other Border agents."
Yuuma hummed, "Hmm, not surprising but I give him the benefit of the doubt."
Chika shushed them and said, "Look, they're starting."
The two boys immediately stopped and stared at the screen. The other agents also focused their attention on the screen.
Sakurako narrated, "Now the stage has been selected! And the stage is Cityscape B! It has both high and low buildings that hardly let firing lines through. It's a very melee-specific stage. Now how will Kageura Squad's two shooters cope?"
Azuma commented, "This will be interesting to watch. Will the Kageura Squad defeat this rookie or will our new B-Ranker perform a miracle."
Sakurako continued, "Now, both squads are being sent into the virtual stage! Alright! The solo vs Squad match begins!!"
I was slowly transported into the random battlefield picked and looked around my position. The time of day seems to be nighttime. Kageura Squad also were scattered with Kageura and Kitazoe close to one another while Ema was closer to my position.
I thought about it for a second before activating Bagworm, "Guess it's time to hunt~ Now who should we find first?"
I opened my Radar and saw a ping nearby while the other two were reasonably far.
I smirked, "Let's start with you. I wonder who you are?"
Emu, who didn't know he was being hunted, suddenly had a cold chill go through his back. He looked around in confusion before activating his own Bagworm.
Meanwhile Kageura and Kitazoe had rendezvoused and prepared to meet up with Emu.
Kageura yelled, "Oi! Let's go! Nire, where's the bastard?!"
Kitazoe just laughed awkwardly.
Nire rolled her eyes and replied, "No clue. He's not showing on the map. He must've used a Bagworm. Be careful."
Kageura just scratched his head in annoyance and complied, "Alright. Alright. Anyway Emu, where are you?"
Emu looking through his Egret responded, "I'm set up on a high vantage point looking for him."
Kageura replied back, "Okay, we're heading there now. Don't get killed."
Nire shouted, "Emu, look out!!"
Emu responded, "Roge—"
While Kageura Squad was organizing, I slowly creeped up to Emu while running upwards through the gaps of the buildings. Thanks to that, I managed to get close without deactivating Bagworm.
I scoffed before using Grasshopper as a spring to slash at Emu with Kogetsu. Emu didn't even react until he saw his headless body fall down.
Announcement: "Trion body limit exceeded. Bail out.
Emu's body burst before a stream of light flew out of the stage and into Kageura Squad's waiting room.
Nire turned her head to Emu and said, "Thanks for the hard work."
Emu's eye twitched before sighing at his overconfidence and said, "I underestimated him."
Kageura roared, "Emu!!! Fuck!"
Back to the audience, Sakurako's mouth was wide open before she excitedly announced, "Amazing!! Captain Ashborn took out Emu with precision. One would think their skill level has reached A-Rank."
The agents erupted in cheers as they started talking about that latest takedown.
Azuma commented, "Impressive tactic. This one does have skills to brag about. Kageura Squad may be in trouble."
Kitora was shocked and said, "It hasn't been five minutes and Kageura Squad already lost a member!"
Arashiyama kept his smile and replied, "This is a surprise for someone who just got promoted. Perhaps he's an anomaly like Yuuma-kun."
Speaking of Yuuma, he, Mikumo, and Chika were in the same state as the other agents. He couldn't contain his excitement seeing that flawless strike. He wished he was fighting me this moment instead of Kageura Squad.

Back in the battlefield, Kageura and Kitazoe are rushing towards where Emu got killed. Unfortunately for them, I had already put away the Kogetsu and held the Lightning Sniper Rifle. Seeing as Lightning is the fastest when it comes to bullet speed, as long as I hit the core points of the body, it should be an immediate kill.
I slowly positioned myself and targeted Kitazoe since he's holding two Grenade Launcher Triggers. I pinpointed his head as well as his chest and once they turned the corner, I shot six times in total. Three to the head and three to the body.
Kageura and Kitazoe were completely unaware of the ambush ahead. Like I predicted, the moment they turned the corner of the street, Kitazoe was immediately hit dead center and around it as well as the chest area. The ambush was a success as Kitazoe fell down on the ground beside Kageura.
Announcement: Trion body limit exceeded. Bail out.

Azuma coughed slightly and replied, "Indeed. That type of sniper sense is usually seen on veteran snipers. I would think this rookie trained under rigorously to perform such shots. Hell–even I have to be careful, if I'm up against him."
On the side, Chika commented, "Wow! I heard from Reiji-sensei that he can also make those shots!"
Yuuma whistled, "Nice shots~!"
Mikumo had his mouth open in shock and said, "No way! Excellent tactic. What a natural tactician."
Wednesday smirked, "He's enjoying his hunt~ Ohh I truly wished we ranked up already. We could torture some people here."

Right before I reached the pavement, I used a low-level Grasshopper to briefly perform a second jump in order to offset the momentum. I walked over to a large clearing ahead and waited till Kageura arrived.
Kageura angrily thought, "Fuck! Shit! Damn it!"
Back to commentary, Sakurako gasped as she said, "Captain Ashborn is just–waiting?! What does he plan to do? Is he gonna fight Captain Kageura one-to-one?! How brave!!"
Sakurako continued, "And here comes Captain Kageura!! He's charging his famous Mantis right at the get-go!!"
Kazama was watching and thought, "To push Kageura to this point is remarkable. A pity he didn't want to join my squad."
A careless voice was heard behind Kazama, which made him frown a bit, and said, "Want some?"
An open bag of fried rice crackers was extended to Kazama.
Kazama refused, "I'm good. Why are you here, Jin?"
Jin just took his snack back and started eating and replied, "Nothing much. Just wanted to see our mystery dark horse. My Side Effect tells me he's hiding something but I'm pretty sure it's a good thing."
Kazama's eyes narrowed and relaxed as he thought, "That could mean anything."
Jin pointed at the screen and said, "It's starting."
Kazama looked over as well as everyone else in the room, awaiting the inevitable duel.
Seeing the approaching Kageura, I slowly positioned myself into an Iai-stance and said, "Took you long enough, mutt."
Kageura exploded and unleashed his Mantis towards me and roared, "Fuck you!! Die!!"
The incoming Mantis energy blade was only a few feet away before I unleashed my own Senku, separating the Mantis into two as it flew behind me. The damaged building behind me collapsed before I dashed towards Kageura with intent to kill. Kageura also dashed towards me with his Scorpion intending the same.
Kageura slashed towards my neck with the Scorpion, hoping to cut off my neck. In his opinion, cutting off my head was as easy as taking candy from a baby. Unfortunately, at the precise moment when the blade was going to decapitate my neck, a sudden change occured.
I disappeared from his sight as he instinctively crossed his arms together with Scorpions attached in front of him. A dazzling spark bloomed on the blades.
Kageura raised his head with narrowed eyes, only to be met with a cold gaze.
He said, "You?!"
I replied, "Me."
Kageura, who was pressed on the ground, rotated his body like a top as he swung to land a hit. My body fell forward due to the inertia so I quickly pulled out my scabbard to use as a shield in front.
The sounds of clashing continued as sparks caused by the collision and friction from both Triggers fell like raindrops. With help from the continuous impacts of Kogetsu, I took advantage of the situation and stabilized my body to distance myself.
In the eyes of everyone watching, we were as if being played in fast-forward as we were fighting continuously in such a compressed period of time. They only managed to see us normally when we broke off.
The spectators were at the edge of their seats as they were witnessing a very high-level combat between us. There were not many times one can see such battles as they were usually fought under closed doors whether they be practice or to settle differences.
Kageura assumed his stance with cold sweat falling down his face.
He thought, "How? How is he able to keep up with me?! Even my Side Effect is useless."
Kageura shook his head and pushed his thoughts out of his mind.
He continued to think, "Now's not the time to get distracted. Fuck..!"
Kageura took a deep breath as he held his Scorpion, one in front and the other the back. His body's center of gravity depressed and before I knew it, another Mantis struck at me. Only this time, he was aiming, not for the neck, the chest, or my abdomen but for my legs. The strike was fast but I was faster in retreating.
I kept watching and learning as I retreated and thought, "Seems like the mutt has some skills. Too bad he's being led by my rhythm in battle. He already lost. It's time to finish this."
I kept backing off from his attacks until I was forced to the wall behind me.
Kageura's chilling smile plastered on his face and taunted, "No way out now!!"
I quickly stepped on the wall and accelerated with Grasshopper and flew in the air. Unbeknownst to Kageura, he was so focused on trying to stab me that he never noticed I left an afterimage as I disappeared from his sight.
Kageura was shocked and looked around before hearing behind him, "Where are you looking?"
By the time he turned his head, a cold light flashed past him as three strikes could be seen on his body. Kageura's neck, torso, and legs were sliced off before he saw me sheathing Kogetsu.
Announcement: Trion body limit exceeded. Bail out.
Kageura's body exploded as his Trion flew into the air, signalling the end of the match. I was teleported out of the field soon after.
The whole crowd who were watching shouted in cheers. From C-Rank all the way to the higher-ups, their eyes were shining as they knew an unprecedented genius had joined their ranks.
Sakurako stood up and announced, "Woahhh!!! What an upset for the Kageura Squad! Congratulations to Captain Ashborn for winning his Challenge Match!"
Azuma also stood up and clapped, "Amazing match! I'm honored to be part of this moment! Congratulations."
My rank went from Rank 20 to Rank 6 in B-Rank, only three ranks away from surpassing Kageura Squad.
Wednesday smirked and got up, "Let's go meet him. He must've had fun even though he held back a little."
Nitocris nodded, "Indeed. It was much slower than I thought. Oh well, it was still a good match."
Enid jumped up and down in excitement before she pulled both Wednesday and Nitocris towards my area.
Yuuma, Mikumo, and Chika just watched them leave with sweatdrops, marvelling Enid's strength to pull two friends without a Trion body. They just shook their heads before going to do their own duties, especially rank up to B-Rank. For the remainder of the day, everyone was talking about the match. Others were motivated to work harder to become better while others were discussing the tactics used by both sides.
A looming danger hovers Mikado City as invaders from the Neighborhood are getting closer.
