Ren returned to his city, one-handed and mad with fear.
"If I cannot kill Death," Ren reasoned, "I must cheat him."
He began the Experiments. He ordered his guards to bring him prisoners.
"Why does the soul leave?" Ren asked. "Because the body is a house with open doors."
He created the Aspect of Anchors. He took long spiritual nails. He hammered them into the souls of the prisoners. Then he killed them.
The prisoners died, but their souls could not leave. They became Ghouls. They screamed. They rotted. But they did not depart.
"Success!" Ren laughed. But the Ghouls were mindless. They attacked everything.
Ren realized he needed a stronger binder. He needed to bind the Flow of Time itself.
