Vampire?
Daniel wasn't surprised. The woman's traits did match the vampires he had in mind.
Still, wasn't this game stitching together a few too many settings? Even vampires were showing up now.
Daniel withdrew his elbow, shaking his head with a helpless expression. "See? If you'd just said so earlier, you wouldn't have had to take that beating."
Give me a chance to say it first!
The red-haired bombshell seethed, but she didn't dare voice her anger. She was now convinced the human before her was completely insane.
Daniel studied the limp red-haired beauty, curious. "You say you're a vampire. So what kind are you?"
"There are… kinds of vampires?"
She froze. Since when?
"Of course. Some vampires are just a bit stronger than humans but can only suck blood and come with a load of weaknesses. Others aren't afraid of sunlight and have superpowers, but they're brain-dead romantics who spend all day caught in love triangles with humans and werewolves. So which are you?"
"…I think the first one."
She didn't want to admit she had weaknesses, but she refused even more to be labeled a brain-dead romantic.
Daniel asked, "In America, are there many vampires like you?"
She hesitated. "Not that many. Otherwise humans would've discovered us long ago."
That part was true.
If vampires were everywhere, S.H.I.E.L.D. would've noticed. With Nick Fury's personality, he'd already be planning a species-level extermination event.
Daniel continued, "The recent wave of disappearances in the Bronx—does that have anything to do with you vampires?"
At that, she froze.
But when she saw Daniel slowly raising his elbow again, she instantly blurted, "Y-yes! A while ago, Feith suddenly announced that we were free to hunt humans. That's why we started capturing people nearby!"
"Who's Feith?"
"He's the leader of the half-breeds. His faction is extremely powerful among vampires."
Fear flickered in her eyes.
[Quest 'Investigate the Missing Persons' completed!]
[Rewards: 500 EXP, S.H.I.E.L.D. reputation +10, Equipment: "Nichirin Blade"]
[Equipment: Nichirin Blade (Forged from a material that absorbs sunlight. Deals fatal damage to creatures that fear sunlight.)]
[Skip story sequence and unlock next quest?]
Ordinarily, Daniel would have to report to Nick Fury before receiving the next mission.
But the game system could skip those steps, letting players chain quests seamlessly.
This part of the game was actually well designed.
Unlike some games that force players to watch story cutscenes without even offering a skip option.
"Skip."
Daniel made his choice without hesitation.
[NPC Nick Fury has issued a new mission]
[Mission: Ghost Sweep Operation]
[Objective: Eliminate the vampires running rampant in New York. Time limit: 1 week]
[Rewards: Based on total vampire kills]
Daniel asked a few more questions, and the red-haired vampire answered every one honestly.
She had no choice—the trauma from that elbow strike was far too great.
"One last question." Daniel lifted a finger. "Answer correctly and I'll let you go."
"S-say it!"
She saw a sliver of hope.
Humans will do anything to survive—and vampires are no different.
Daniel smiled. "It's simple. Prove Goldbach's conjecture."
The red-haired vampire: "…"
A moment later, Daniel pushed open the restroom door. The person who had been with him was gone.
Turns out vampires will do anything to survive—
Except math.
"Speaking of which… isn't the appearance of my Nichirin Blade a bit too strange? System, did you give me a fake?"
[The appearance of a Nichirin Blade reflects the user. What the user is, the blade becomes.]
"You call this a Nichirin Blade?"
Daniel held up the… watermelon knife, utterly speechless.
What did this say about him?
That he liked eating watermelon?
"Aaaahhh!"
A sharp scream tore through the bar's noise.
Daniel looked toward the sound. On the dance floor, one person was suddenly tackled to the ground, sharp fangs sinking into their neck as blood sprayed out.
Clearly, that was another vampire.
Like falling dominoes, figures all across the bar suddenly lunged at the unsuspecting humans around them!
In an instant, screams and shrieks filled the entire building.
Against the swarming vampires, ordinary people had no power to resist. They were like lambs waiting to be slaughtered, one after another becoming fresh meals.
Within moments, the bar had turned into a grotesque slaughterhouse.
Shriveled corpses lay everywhere, soaking in sticky pools of blood that reflected a sickening crimson sheen. The stench of gore was overwhelming.
In the chaos, some idiot messed with the lighting, and a spotlight snapped onto Daniel—instantly making him the brightest target in the room.
Dozens of hungry, blood-red eyes locked onto him simultaneously. It looked like he had wandered into an Uchiha clan meeting.
"Hello. Everyone eating? You full yet?"
Daniel's face twitched as he awkwardly greeted them.
Vampires grinned savagely as they closed in, ready to prove they were not full.
Facing the tightening ring of vampires, Daniel showed no panic. He simply tightened his grip on the watermelon-Nichirin Blade.
"Don't say I didn't warn you. Exercising after a meal is bad for your health."
The vampires ignored him completely.
The one at the front lunged first, fangs gleaming, eager to claim the first kill.
Shhk!
A cold flash sliced through the air!
The charging vampire froze mid-pounce. A thin line opened across its neck.
A moment later, its head slid cleanly from its body. The corpse crumbled like burning paper, disintegrating into ash that scattered silently across the air, not even leaving residue.
Daniel rested the watermelon knife on his shoulder. "Tsk. Gotta say, you guys die in a pretty eco-friendly way."
Every vampire stopped dead in their tracks.
Shock and disbelief washed over their faces.
Vampires possessed incredible vitality. Normal weapons did nothing to them.
Even bullets—even powerful ones—were injuries they could rapidly regenerate from.
Only silver or similar anti-vampire materials could inflict real, lasting harm.
Yet this human had killed one of them with a single stroke—instant death, zero chance to heal.
Was that really a… watermelon knife!?
