"This is the Adventurer's Certificate."
Ron weighed the crystal-thin card in his hand. Cool. Smooth. Light. Despite being called a card, it was clearly a finely crafted magical crystal plate.
The name "Nicholas Zhao Si" gleamed faintly across the top, followed by his rank—F-rank Adventurer.
Below that were neatly printed lines showing the number of quests completed at each rank.
From today onward, he could finally say he was also an adventurer.
A childhood dream—half fulfilled.
Ron fished out ten silver coins and handed them to the smiling receptionist.
"The information is magically engraved on your Adventurer's Certificate," the girl explained. "Only you can activate it by touch."
Ron checked the item card:
[Adventurer's Certificate (White)]
[Entry: Record]
Simple, functional, nothing more.
The girl continued explaining various precautions about registration, quest-taking, and rank advancement. Her explanations were even more thorough than Rabi's.
Finally, she added kindly, "Your strength hasn't reached First-Order yet. When choosing quests, please start with gathering tasks or other simple requests."
Ron blinked in surprise. He lifted the crystal card.
"There's no strength information written on this. How did you know?"
The girl smiled knowingly.
"Association staff have special ways of seeing such things. Please rest assured—we are bound by contract magic and cannot leak your information."
Ron nodded, the last of his doubts fading. He turned to his knights.
"What about you all? Want to register?"
Since their lord had already done it, none dared refuse. They all lined up behind him.
And then came the sudden chaos.
When Anthony filled out his form, Ron caught sight of the name—
"Nicholas Zhao Wu."
Ron smacked him on the shoulder.
"Change it."
"Yes, yes!"
Anthony scratched his head, trying to come up with something else. Sig and the others, influenced by his example, began inventing ridiculous names one after another. Soon, all sorts of bizarre adventurer identities appeared on the forms.
Ron was speechless.
He had only used a fake name to test whether the Association detected identity fraud—he hadn't expected the entire knight squad to copy him.
Thomas quietly pulled out his old adventurer certificate with his real name engraved. He suddenly felt… out of place among these lunatics.
After a short while, everyone successfully registered as F-rank adventurers.
Ron paid the total fee—another fifty silver coins gone.
He did not linger and left the Adventurers' Association with the group.
As they returned to the inn near evening, they happened to see Jeff—the summoner from yesterday—slumped over the counter, crying and muttering to himself. Reagan looked thoroughly irritated but didn't chase him out.
Jeff stopped crying when he heard people entering and silently dragged himself upstairs.
Ron didn't ask. He simply nodded politely to Reagan and went up to rest.
—
That evening, in the knights' room.
"What adventurer names did you all choose?" Marvin asked curiously.
"Garmagaha," Hadley said calmly.
Everyone turned to stare at him.
Hadley raised an eyebrow. "What? What's yours?"
The others listed their outrageous names, one after another. Then Anthony spoke proudly—
"Hadley."
Hadley froze. "…Why are you calling me?"
"I'm not. That's the name I registered with."
Hadley's expression darkened instantly.
"Are you sick?!"
Anthony shrank back. "I wanted to copy the Lord and choose 'Nicholas Zhao Wu,' but the Association rejected it. In a panic, I saw you and just—"
Hadley regretted making eye contact with him earlier.
Anthony then turned to Thomas, eager again.
"Mr. Thomas, what about you? You didn't use your real name, did you?"
Thomas coldly replied, "Get lost."
—
The next morning.
Michelle arrived early at the inn's first floor, wearing the elegant uniform of the Royal Noble Academy.
Upstairs, Ron was assigning tasks.
No outsiders were allowed into the academy. Ron had a letter of recommendation, so he could enter for temporary business—but Veronica and the others could not.
"Hadley, Anthony—go buy the forging tools Master Hadley needs. After two days in the capital, you should know where to find the best ones."
"Yes, Lord."
Ron had not forgotten Master Hadley's blue entry. Proper tools mattered.
Then he said, "Marvin, Malcolm—go to the market and buy a small amount of every type of seed you can find."
"Thomas—you're responsible for protecting Veronica. She needs to focus on her drawings."
Ron looked toward Veronica.
"Did you memorize what I told you?"
Veronica nodded seriously.
"You asked me to sketch buildings, clothing styles, and the complex layout of the Royal Capital—and anything the Arnold Territory lacks."
"Good. No need for color. Just clarity."
Only Sig and Joseph, the carriage driver, remained unassigned.
Sig straightened his back with anticipation. As the strongest knight beside the Lord, he expected something grand—perhaps dangerous.
Ron stroked his chin thoughtfully.
"Sig, I have a very important mission for you… but I'm not sure if you—"
"Lord, please! Give it to me! I won't fail you!"
Ron sighed.
"Fine. Then I entrust you with selecting a gift… for Mellitoria."
"Ah?!"
—
"Michelle, sorry to keep you waiting."
Ron came downstairs and apologized.
"It's fine. I just arrived." Michelle smiled. "Let's go. The carriage is ready."
They boarded and headed toward the Royal Noble Academy.
Along the way, Michelle chatted about mages, academy incidents, and various magical anecdotes. Ron listened intently—his incomplete understanding of mages made everything sound fresh and intriguing.
As they approached the academy gates, another carriage suddenly galloped past, hooves clattering loudly. Michelle frowned and ordered their coachman to slow down.
Ron peeked out the window. A luxurious carriage, bearing a noble crest, shot past and disappeared into the academy.
"That is the crest of Count Eugene," Michelle explained. "The person inside is his daughter—Julie Eugene."
Michelle's tone made it clear he didn't want to discuss her further. Ron didn't pry.
After showing Viscount Gordon's recommendation letter to the guards, their carriage passed through the gates and stopped inside.
Michelle smiled.
"Ron, welcome to the Royal Noble Academy. I'll introduce you to everything."
As they walked, Michelle explained the academy's history, architecture, and departments. Since it was still class time, very few students were around.
"…The academy is mainly divided into the Magic Department and the Combat Department. There are also smaller specialties that fall under these two main divisions. After your test is complete, I'll show you around properly."
Following these explanations, Michelle led Ron to the entrance of a distinct, solemn-looking building. His demeanor changed subtly.
Ron sensed it. "You're not coming in?"
Michelle shook his head.
"I'll wait for you here."
Ron raised an eyebrow, then pushed the door open while holding the recommendation letter.
The moment the door closed behind him—
the world changed.
The air shifted like a dream unraveling. A graceful, noble woman sat before him on an ornate wooden chair, her luminous eyes fixed on Ron's hair.
Her voice was soft—yet carried weight.
"Are you from the Arnold Family?"
Ron's pupils narrowed slightly.
Something wasn't right.
