Chapter 146: The Heartless Senior Brother Wants His Junior Sister to Be His Part Time Worker

"Are you a weirdo?"

Kenichi's lips twitched as he looked at the pitiful Anko. Who was this strange kid in front of him? Where was his sharp, loudmouthed junior sister? Why did she look like she had lost half her brain along the way?

"Stop squirming," Kenichi said, sounding annoyed. "I'm not a weirdo, and I'm not taking you to look at goldfish."

He casually rested his palm on Anko's head, sending a thin thread of chakra through her body to find where their teacher's seal had been placed.

Kenichi knew Anko's memories had been sealed. She could not remember anything about their teacher, or even about herself. But he also knew that seal was not particularly strong.

At the very least, Anko had broken it later under extreme stimulation and recovered her memories, so it should not be difficult for him to locate it now. As for why Konoha never tried to force the seal open to see what was hidden inside, Kenichi could not understand it.

He could only chalk it up to how many odd setups existed in early Naruto. He had even heard that Itachi had originally been designed as a pure villain.

Later, the plot expanded, and everything shifted. But Kenichi was not Kishimoto, so he had no way of knowing what the author had been thinking.

Clang.

Kenichi lowered his head slowly.

Anko was holding a kunai, stabbing herself right in the kidney like she was testing if it worked.

Kenichi stared into her eyes, then stared at the kunai again, and for once, he did not know what expression to wear.

"…Are you having fun?" Kenichi sighed.

He had noticed her movements earlier, but he had decided not to stop her. If she clearly understood the difference between friend and enemy, it would be easier for him to search for the seal without her panicking at every touch.

Tears swelled in Anko's eyes.

She widened them quickly, trying to force the tears back down with stubborn pride.

"That's right," Kenichi said with a laugh. "Next time you feel like crying, punch yourself a few more times. You'll cry even louder."

He remembered Anko crying back then during their teacher's hellish training.

Anko froze.

For a heartbeat, she felt like someone had said the exact same thing to her before. But who? No matter how hard she tried, she could not remember.

A struggle flickered in her gaze.

Kenichi immediately sensed a strange chakra fluctuation in a specific spot, and his hand moved to her neck without hesitation. He pressed down just below the curse mark.

There it was.

The real seal was hidden on her neck, tucked beneath the curse mark like it was trying to hide behind a bigger problem.

"This is really interesting," Kenichi muttered.

The seal was not particularly complex, but it was disguised well. Once you discovered it, dealing with it would be straightforward.

What made it truly irritating was the layering.

The curse mark had already been sealed, so now it was seal plus curse mark plus seal.

What kind of weird Oreo was this supposed to be?

Kenichi studied the pattern carefully. "This sealing style looks a lot like the Third Hokage's work…"

When Kenichi first followed Orochimaru, he focused more on genjutsu and sealing. His strength was not enough, and his talent was only average, so he had relied on technique and preparation. Because of that, he had done plenty of research into seals.

Still, this seal was not powerful. It was decent, nothing more.

Konoha's best sealing once depended on the Uzumaki clan, but the Land of Whirlpools had long since been destroyed. Now, there were probably only a few Uzumaki left in the entire shinobi world.

Kenichi exhaled and looked at Anko.

"Sorry, Anko."

He pinched the seal between his fingers and pushed chakra through it.

The seal snapped.

The moment it released, the curse mark reacted, spreading violently across Anko's skin like a living stain.

Kenichi clicked his tongue. Natural energy gathered in his palm, and he pressed down, suppressing the curse mark before it could fully flare.

When he studied the curse mark with their teacher, he learned the truth. It was an alternative path toward immortality, but it depended on special bodies like Orochimaru's and Jugo's.

That was why Kenichi also knew how to restrain it.

"Teacher really is a pervert," Kenichi muttered as he watched Anko's face twist in pain.

He suspected that when Orochimaru placed the curse mark on her, he might have bitten directly into her neck.

That was beyond questionable.

If anyone had to handle something like this, it should have been done properly, not in a way that left her suffering like this.

Kenichi would never seal someone by biting their neck. His methods were far more normal, and far easier for anyone with a functioning conscience to accept.

While suppressing the curse mark, he used the opening to release the hidden sealing technique beneath it.

For a moment, Anko's eyes went blank.

Then she focused on him like her soul had finally returned to her body.

"…Senior Amamiya?"

Kenichi's shoulders loosened slightly.

Good. She remembered.

And more importantly, staying in Konoha was no longer an option for her.

"Sorry, Anko." Kenichi smiled and shrugged, though his head still ached when he thought about what had just happened in the village.

Fighting felt great in the moment. Cleaning up the mess afterward was always the real nightmare.

He had abducted Anko and Shinno from Konoha. He had even breached Konoha's sealing barrier.

It was easy to imagine what kind of ripples this would send through the shinobi world.

Fortunately, besides Akatsuki and their teacher, no one knew he was the Heavenly Demon.

Otherwise, his bounty would probably climb even higher, and then he would be achieving something like becoming one of the Four Emperors in the Naruto world.

Anko's eyes were full of tangled emotions. She did not know how to face her senior brother, and she did not know how to face their teacher.

"Don't talk about that now," Kenichi said, glancing back with irritation. "Those dog noses have already caught up."

Root was a headache.

They clung like hunting hounds, and they threw away their lives like they were worthless. On top of that, their tongue seal made them even more troublesome. Even Kenichi found it annoying to use them as consumables.

Anko understood what kind of situation Kenichi was in. She sniffed, stood up, and followed him as they sprinted forward.

"Stay close," Kenichi said, annoyed. "They're still on us."

He turned, lightning gathering in his hand. A thicker, harsher bolt snapped outward.

Without stopping, he formed seals and used the Hidden Mist Jutsu.

Fog surged behind them, swallowing the forest in a gray wall.

Kenichi's lightning slammed into the dense mist, and only then did he turn back with grim satisfaction, leading Anko onward.

For now, Root would not be able to keep up.

"Senior brother… you've become so strong!" Anko's eyes practically lit up.

"Stop worrying about the basics and just keep moving," Kenichi said, waving it off.

This battle had looked smooth, but that was because he had played it with tricks and timing.

If the Ino Shika Cho clan, the Uchiha, and the Hyuga had truly coordinated and piled in at once, he might not have been able to successfully summon a second thunder dragon. Escaping would have been much harder.

As they ran, Kenichi glanced at Anko again.

She had been dragged into this because of him and their teacher.

Even if she eventually became a jonin of Konoha, who knew how much she had been forced to endure and how much effort she had spent crawling her way there?

Anime flashbacks were only fragments. They never showed everything.

Just like Naruto.

He was still so young, yet he was already being treated like that, and he had more than a decade of the same misery waiting for him.

All Kenichi could say was that Naruto's mental fortitude was absurd.

"Still," Kenichi said with a faint, amused edge, "I'm curious. If Naruto had been taught differently from the start, what would he think of Konoha? Would he still want to become Hokage?"

Kenichi knew exactly what Hiruzen's plan was. The Third Hokage wanted to pour the Will of Fire into Naruto and make him willingly serve the village.

And it had worked.

Even surrounded by darkness, ostracized by villagers, and mocked by shinobi, Naruto still wanted to become Hokage and earn everyone's acknowledgment.

Kenichi could not help thinking that if people in his past life had a mindset like that, depression and emo would probably go out of business.

He glanced at Anko and slowed his pace slightly to match her.

"Anko," he said, "do you want to live with teacher and me?"

Anko's gaze wavered.

Even with her memories sealed, she still remembered this stretch of time.

Her parents' disgust. The village's suspicion. The agents who spoke kindly while interrogating her with smiles.

It all left a bitter taste in her mouth.

Of course she understood that it was all because of their teacher and her senior brother.

But today, it was her senior brother who had come to Konoha, taken her away, and ripped her out of that suffering.

"I… I want to keep learning with teacher," Anko said. She wiped at her reddened eyes and nodded, suddenly firm.

"If I'm never going to be accepted in Konoha anyway… then I'd rather learn with teacher and you."

Anko did not notice the strange smile that spread across Kenichi's face.

If she had noticed, she might have felt something was off.

But she did not.

Kenichi's smile grew brighter.

He had taken Anko away because he could not stand seeing her crushed like that in Konoha.

But there was another reason too.

As everyone knew, shinobi research required money. Kenichi already had ideas, but those ideas were still only seeds buried under winter soil, waiting for spring to arrive so they could sprout and claw their way into survival in this cruel world.

Neither he nor their teacher had much time to make money.

So why not find someone who could?

Just like Akatsuki found Kakuzu, Kenichi had found Anko.

"Great," Kenichi said cheerfully, clapping her shoulder with a bright grin. "Teacher will definitely be happy. He values you a lot."

And best of all, Kenichi would not have to worry so much about funding ever again.
