Chapter 6 - Heartbeats

Sombra discovered something interesting. He would be very difficult to kill, even more so than the original Sombra.

His Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu (Fish-Fish Fruit, Model: Azure Dragon), a rare Mythical Zoan, was very impressive. It gave Sombra great endurance, strength, regeneration, and included a great strength increase in his hybrid form or dragon form.

Not counting its many incredible abilities, it was simply versatile and powerful.

But it wasn't a Logia. It couldn't turn the body intangible to ignore physical damage like it were nonexistent. And in dragon form, Sombra would be a huge target and easier to hit.

Or that should have been the case, but Sombra was capable of turning his entire body into shadows. He becomes intangible and almost impossible to hit unless it is magical attacks or maybe elemental damage.

Thus, if you simply combine the shadow transformation with his Devil Fruit, he becomes a cockroach that is very difficult to hit in the first place, unless a greater magic user is against him. And considering Sombra being a thousand years old, it would need some very strong individuals to crush him outright in magical abilities.

(The Crystal Empire)

A huge dragon was flying over the Crystal Empire, but its azure scales were covered in liquid-like shadows, covering the entire sky above the Crystal Empire with darkness that blocked the sun's rays.

The Dragon's head focused on his new form with increasing intensity, as if judging his new look.

"Hmmm. So when I attack with my physical body, I have to cancel the shadow transformation. So I need to activate and deactivate it according to the situation. Thankfully, heat breath and non-physical attacks seem to be working even in my shadow state," Sombra muttered while allowing the shadows to disappear as he returned to his normal dragon form.

'So, for short, I have an offensive mode and the defence/shadow mode.'

"Thankfully, I can use my magic on both forms, otherwise it would be troublesome."

The dragon form disappeared while Sombra, in his hybrid form, landed at the edges of the Crystal Empire, making the ground crack.

The blue sky appeared again as the shadow magic started to disperse from the sky, allowing the sun rays to shine on the crystal buildings again.

"Talk about a villain skill," Sombra laughed at his bad joke as he went through the wall of crystals. The crystals moved with a cracking sound, allowing him passage while closing behind him.

Sombra walked through the empty streets of the empire, looking at the crystal houses, each covered in a layer of ice.

'I really need to solve the ghost city problem.' He sighed heavily as he finally stopped, having arrived at his destination.

"The library." Sombra pushed the crystal door open as he saw the insides of the buildings.

'Hundreds of books….'

Sombra almost didn't consider the library special in any way.

But he realised that he was blinded by the original Sombra's memories.

Since the world of Little Pony was fundamentally built on magic, the original Sombra didn't consider the library that had hundreds of books about magic practices anything special.

But on Earth? This is a library that collected decades of efforts of the empire? It was one of a kind!

A treasure, each and every last book here. Even if humans couldn't learn magic directly, Sombra was sure he could use the heart to change that and allow them to have magical potential so they could start learning.

On the entire Earth, this library should be one of a kind. And Sombra was going to use that.

After all, what human could resist the temptation of learning magic?

If I play my cards just right, I could turn every citizen into a magician. And since the Crystal Heart is the one that will change their bodies to be able to learn magic.

Of course, Sombra wasn't about to give it to everyone, but those who will prove their loyalty?

Then he would show them how generous he can be.

As for those who try to betray him?

Then they would learn that the original Sombra had learned many things about torture.

Sombra will give them their powers, and if it comes to it, he will take it back.

Only when they accept the empire as their true home and prove their loyalty will he allow them to gain power.

Sombra wasn't about to let someone learn magic and then leave to use it for the greater good or to play hero.

The empire's greater good is the only good they should worry about.

Sombra spent a long while checking on the library.

He decided to classify spells. The harder and more dangerous it is to learn, the higher the spell level.

He needed to think heavily of how to make a functional system, but it wasn't useful to consider it when the empire was still empty.

Sombra placed the book of teleportation back to its place as he gave a last look at the books inside before he left the library.

Once outside the library, Sombra placed his gauntlet on the crystal wall of the library as his magic flared.

Dark crystals grew from the ground and walls of the library as the crystals intertwined together with the sound of cracks as the crystals broke and rearranged themselves under Sombra's magic.

Once Sombra was done, he lifted his gauntlet as he looked at the library, now completely sealed off with his dark crystals.

Sombra was willing to bet that he could actually write magical books from the original Sombra's memories.

But that was tedious, and even Sombra can't be sure he would remember everything.

So it's better to make sure the library is secured, and when hands are available, he would make multiple copies from each magical book.

The empire's magical knowledge cannot be allowed to be harmed in any way, especially in a world like Earth where magical knowledge is probably nonexistent.

And even this Earth isn't normal. No power would give its magical knowledge for free.

So protecting the library was paramount.

Sombra sighed again as he placed his gauntlet on the library deciding to do more.

'Better safe than sorry'

In the next second, countless spikes grew from the dark crystals, each sharp and deadly.

Sombra nodded to himself as he decided to place some magical traps before doing the same to the Crystal Heart chamber afterwards.

(Two hours later)

The original Sombra was a master of manipulating the mind.

Although he lost his mind control ability, but placing a trap that would force whoever fell into it to face their greatest fear.

That was Sombra's specialty.

And in the last two hours, he has gone all out. The library was filled with traps and even illusion magic from inside and outside.

If someone ever tried breaking into the library, they'd better be carrying an iron will or be a terrifying magician.

'Now the Crystal Heart.' Sombra spared a last look at the Library before turning to shadow as he floated to atop the Castle.

(The Crystal Heart chamber)

As Sombra came to view of the Crystal Heart in all its glory.

Sombra suddenly stopped as he realized that he may have made a mistake.

The Crystal Heart's magical energy is close to a heartbeat in its movement. Every few seconds there is a spike in the Crystal Heart energy before it calms down and repeats.

"I made a mistake. I wouldn't be surprised if the Crystal Heart energy had been like a sun to any half-good wizard or even technology."

Sombra's magic flared as he placed his gauntlet on the Heart, feeling its magical energy hum beneath the crystal surface.

'I could hide the energy with magic, but any powerful creature would have already noticed. There is no point in this, and besides, I want them to come to me.'

And with that, Sombra closed his eyes as he gave the Crystal Heart its first command.

The command was simple. If the Crystal Heart deemed something dangerous to its existence or the empire's safety.

'Then the heart is allowed to use any amount of magic necessary to protect itself from being taken or harmed.'

As the command was given, the Crystal Heart shone with all types of colors as its magical energy flared for a few seconds.

A single heartbeat shook the entire of the empire.

The heartbeat caused a huge ring of magical energy to explode with every heartbeat.

The ring moved across the entire of the empire, shaking it before moving beyond it.

(Unseen by Sombra)

The heartbeat of the Crystal Heart sent a huge wave of magical energy into the sky with terrifying energy.

The magical energy cut through the distance and atmosphere in a few seconds, not caring about anything except its target.

Finally, the magical energy arrived at a certain metallic object that had been spying on it for a while from orbit.

The magical wave with zero hesitation came into contact with it as the object was cut in half.

The magical energy then stopped advancing as it surrounded the two halves, breaking them apart into small pieces.

And with the last heartbeat of the Crystal Heart, the small pieces of the object were destroyed completely as the magical energy forced the bonds between its atoms to break reducing it to nothing.

Once the magic disappeared, there was not a single trace of the object being in orbit.

It was as if it never existed to begin with.
