Chapter 30 - Soul Armaments

In the world of One Piece, most Devil Fruit users were human.

Of course, there were exceptions.

Some—like Chopper—were animals who ate Devil Fruits.

And then there were the rarities:

Weapons that had "eaten" Devil Fruits.

Everyone knew a weapon couldn't literally eat.

No mouth, no organs, no digestion.

To make a weapon into a Devil Fruit user, one needed extremely specialized technology.

But that wasn't a problem for Davy.

His own method of using Devil Fruits relied on soul possession.

If his soul could occupy a fruit…

why couldn't it occupy a weapon?

The more he thought about it, the more everything clicked into place.

His eyes grew brighter.

Soul-servants, being pure souls, had limited durability.

But if he anchored them onto a blade, he could reinforce that blade with Armament Haki—saving soul power, boosting durability, and enabling him to wield multiple fruits at once.

It would be like equipping magical gear in an RPG.

Wear it into battle and switch abilities on the fly.

Far more efficient than summoning soul-servants and micromanaging them.

With growing excitement, Davy turned and rushed toward his room.

Clara, who had been watching him with concern, jumped to her feet.

"Davy-sir? Where are you going? Did something happen?"

"I need to test something. When you're all done moving things, just knock on my door."

He left without another word.

Back in his room, he locked the door and drew a simple longsword from his inventory pile.

He hesitated only a moment before summoning the Rhino Fruit soul-servant.

Perfect test subject.

Even if he ruined it, he wouldn't feel any regret.

Recalling the sensation of soul possession, Davy extended his hand.

The towering soul-servant collapsed into a swirling orb of green flame.

With his other hand, he held the blade steady and pressed the soul into the metal.

BOOM.

Like oil dropped into fire, emerald flames roared across the blade.

Mist curled along the steel.

Somewhere inside, a deep beastlike bellow echoed.

"…It worked?"

Davy's eyes lit up.

He swung the sword.

WHUM—WHUM—WHUM.

It howled through the air, heavy and powerful, each stroke carrying monstrous force.

His eyes flashed.

He drew another sword and clashed them together.

The ordinary blade snapped instantly.

"The Zoan's physical enhancement… transferred into the weapon."

He murmured.

"Even a child holding this could swing with a rhino's strength."

Then he tried what all weapon-type Zoan users were capable of—

He tossed the blade upward.

The metal shrieked like a beast—

and moments later, a massive, muscular rhino slammed onto the deck.

Its form matched the Rhino Pirate captain's Zoan hybrid perfectly.

Human form, hybrid form, full-beast form—

A weapon could use them all.

Davy nodded in satisfaction.

With a gesture, the rhino charged toward him and dissolved into the sword's hilt, now adorned with a snarling bestial head and a wicked horn.

The partial-beast form.

"Good. Not only does it boost attack power, it can shift forms mid-battle to take enemies by surprise."

Davy spent a long while admiring the new weapon.

Then came the most important part:

Releasing the soul.

The blade's green aura rippled, condensed, and floated free as a soul-flame.

Davy closed his eyes, feeling its state.

His heart leapt.

"The cost… is almost nothing? Same as normal possession!"

Normally, possession consumed his stamina.

Only when his body failed or when he blocked damage would soul power be spent.

So now the question became—

What did weapon possession consume?

Inspecting the blade, he noticed cracks marring the previously pristine surface.

"Durability."

Weapon lifespan.

Just like the real technique, a weapon with a Devil Fruit could degrade and eventually "die," causing the fruit to reincarnate.

But for Davy, this wasn't a downside.

He could just disengage the soul and use a new weapon whenever he liked.

He gave the blade a gentle shake.

It fell apart into several pieces.

He clicked his tongue.

"Yeah… too cheap. I'll need to buy proper blades later.

Can't have my weapon crumbling mid-fight."

He paused.

"Soul Armaments… yeah, that's a good name."

He nodded to himself and then continued testing.

Every fruit behaved differently.

The Smooth-Smooth Fruit turned the blade impossibly slick—razor sharp, frictionless, sliding anything off its surface. If he weren't the soul's master, he wouldn't even be able to hold it.

The Chop-Chop Fruit made the weapon float in segmented pieces, immune to cutting damage.

The Silent-Silent Fruit made the blade utterly soundless, killing without even a whisper.

Only the Barrier-Barrier Fruit gave him trouble.

No matter what object he tried, the ability refused to activate—

until he found a metal charm shaped like the signature crossed-fingers gesture.

Only then could he summon barriers with it.

He was in the middle of testing when—

Knock. Knock. Knock.

Someone rapped at the door.

He dispersed the soul-servants and opened it.

"…You're done already?"

But it wasn't Clara.

Standing there was a frail girl, long black hair covering half her face like some kind of ghost.

Thin, pale, trembling.

"You are…? Did you need something?"

She didn't speak.

Instead—

THUD.

She dropped to her knees.

Davy immediately stepped aside, avoiding the bow.

His voice was cold.

"If you have something to say, say it directly."
