Chapter 4 - Ch 4: Reclaming the House

[You are the first in this world to kill a goddess. A new title will be granted.]

[New Title Granted: Killer of Gods. All your attacks will land double damage against things categorized as 'divine'.]

Andrew looked at the title on the system screen before he turned his attention away from it. The title was not the real reason he had killed the goddess after all.

"You people just never change. I knew you were going to attack me as soon as I offended you."

He told the now dead goddess as he reached toward her chest and pulled out her heart. It was still pulsing, but it no longer had any life left in it.

[You have acquired the source of mana.]

"This thing is just as repulsive as it was in my last life. Just holding it makes me want to puke."

Andrew commented as he pushed the dead goddess's heart into his inventory. The source of mana was a key item granted to anyone who killed a goddess. However, it could only be used before reaching level 12.

The only use of this item was to gain the profession of the archmage.

Before this, Andrew had lived almost 800 years to gain this profession and he had lost a lot. But this time, he was going to take the easy way.

With the source of its power no longer there, the dungeon around him faded and his body was thrown back into the real world. Over the horizon, the sun was starting to rise once more.

"Hmm, so this place is… Earth? It looks close enough to my home planet and the creatures also look similar enough. It should not be a problem for me to adapt."

Andrew finally had time to look at his body. He was in some kind of white suit, and his mask was also tattered in places, hiding his identity.

It was time for him to go home.

But speaking of home… where was that? He did not recall any specific place that he needed to head to, and he currently had no means to extract memories from his current body.

Luckily for him, the body he was in had a purse and an ID. Inputting the data in the system allowed Andrew to be able to find his way back to the large house that had the same last name as the one on the ID.

The huge house seemed to be intact, and Andrew rang the doorbell a few times to see if anyone would come out to greet him. But no one did.

So he decided to jump over the fence and enter the house.

Being an archmage for over 1000 years meant that he was quite proficient in magic. Channeling his magic into his legs was not a tough thing for him. The most difficult thing was to concentrate and not channel too much.

He landed softly on his feet on the other side and walked toward the house. But as soon as he touched the door to open it, he felt a presence behind him.

"Mark Dawson, where were you until now? Do you even know what happened? If you want to die, then do that after you are done handing over your business to us."

The female who grabbed Andrew was the same one who had grabbed his arm when he had first arrived in this world.

But unlike last time, Andrew had no intention of allowing her to grab him or tell him what to do.

"Excuse me, but who are you and what are you doing here? I was under the impression that this was my house?"

gasp

The gasp was deafeningly loud, and the woman immediately pretended to clutch her heart to show him that she had been hurt.

"H-How could you say that to me? ME-! I fed you, clothed you, and even went to your school meetings. I am all but your mother…."

The female tried to tell him as she pretended to cry. But her dry eyes were not very convincing.

"Miss, that still does not answer my question. So, who are you? I can ask around if you want me to."

Andrew's words made the woman startled, and she immediately pushed herself back.

"Young master, don't be like that. We are family. I am the nanny who raised you. You were even going to marry my daughter…"

Seeing how Andrew was not falling for her acting anymore, the older woman bit her lip. Her eyes shook as she tried to control her temper.

'What the hell happened to young master? He was so timid and scared just a few hours ago. Did he lose his memory? Don't tell me… did he become like this after what happened? I need to get him under my control.'

The old woman had lived through a lot in life, and she knew that during hard times, money was the only thing that helped. That's why she wanted to get the young master married off to her daughter.

But it had all fallen apart now.

'Tsk, married or not, young master is still under my control. All I need to do is appeal to him a little more—'

"Hmm, so you were my nanny? Aren't you too bold for a nanny? Oh well, it's a good thing I don't need a nanny anymore, so you are free to go now."

He told the older female, causing her to immediately fall to her knees.

"Young master, don't be like that. What would you do without me? I—"

"Hmm, I will be fine. But I have a feeling you won't be if you keep hanging around me like this. Listen well, nanny. This will no longer be what it used to be. Soon, it will become a battlefield where the weak will be crushed. Do you have the confidence to stand beside me?"

The nanny looked at her young master and she suddenly felt like she was looking at him for the first time.

There was a dangerous look in his eyes that made the nanny's breath hitch.

"Y-You… are you really my young master? N-No… who are you? Stay back… S-Stay back…."

The female gasped as recognition flashed in her eyes, followed by resignation.

Andrew did not even need to do much for the nanny to push herself up and run out of the house. The door closed behind her, leaving Andrew to be the only person left in the house.
