Chapter 40 - Shield's First Actions

The agency had facilitated the Widow's introduction into the Stark company. The girl had no problem getting a job with such a large company. Her acting skills, accumulated knowledge and Shield's forged documents were able to easily fool the interviewer Pepper.

Potts was a responsible person when it came to recruiting her personal assistant. That's why she conducted the interview in person. There were many applicants of different genders for the vacancy. Each applicant had his own tactics to please the future boss. Someone tried to woo, someone made eyes, and someone piled the table with a pile of awards and recommendations from different educational institutions. The big salary of the deputy general director of Stark Industries seduced many people.

Pepper had been interviewing for the third hour. Sitting back in her chair, she rubbed her temples tiredly. Such a large influx of candidates gave her a headache. Even limiting the candidates' presentation to five minutes didn't help relieve the influx of applicants for the vacant position. There were too many people.

Potts wouldn't have had such a bad headache if she'd found the right candidate, but more than two dozen people had already gone through her, and she still hadn't found the right person. Pepper had already regretted several times that she hadn't broken the interview into several stages and assigned the first stages to other employees of the company. That way she would at least have had more or less appropriate candidates to choose from.

The appearance of the red-haired, well-built girl was like a breath of fresh air for the tired headmistress. Amanda Waller had all the necessary certificates, was easy to talk to and intelligent. Against the background of the other applicants, the red-haired girl, twenty-something years old, showed herself perfectly and caught Pepper's eye.

Not surprisingly, after a painful interview with a lot of candidates, Potts called Amanda the next day. The red-haired girl was employed by the company the day after the interview and immediately got to work.

Inside herself, the Widow grinned, the implementation had been a success. The post of deputy general director opened up many opportunities for espionage, which Natasha decided to take advantage of.

The main task of the infiltrated Shield agent was to spy on the head of the company, Anita Stark. It was necessary to gather more information about this billionaire and make a plan to recruit her by the agency. A side job was to steal information on Stark's new weapons. Such advanced military technology couldn't be in just one hand. Shield wanted the blueprints of Stark's new invention, it was an order from above and the agency could not disobey.

Natasha had a lot of work to do. For the first time she honestly fulfilled her duties as deputy general director, significantly reducing the workload of Pepper Potts.

Stark's newly appointed headmistress was unimaginably pleased to have such support from the hired red-haired deputy. For the first time this week she could breathe and even let her tired body get some sleep. In general, Pepper didn't want to exert herself so much right after leaving the hospital. Her still not fully recovered body was tired much faster and she needed more rest.

How could she explain anything to that red-haired tyrant Anita? Without consulting Potts, she had appointed her general director at the most difficult moment for the company. Pepper wanted to refuse such an "attractive" position in the company, but the declaration of love from Stark knocked Potts off her feet.

Pepper knew about her friend's past, how her father had treated her coldly and the imprint his cold treatment had left on the young Anita. The girl hated men. Growing up Stark saw her father in every man and therefore her attitude to men was corresponding. Her friend had a strange hobby of first falling in love with guys and then cruelly throwing them away, breaking their hearts.

Pepper didn't like her friend's hobby, but there was nothing she could do about it. She just tried to keep Anita occupied with something else and sometimes she succeeded.

Knowing her dislike of men, her friend's recent announcement just dumbfounded Potts! She was in love! And it would be okay if this love was strange and directed at some other woman, but no! Anita fell in love with a man, her bodyguard!

Then they spent the whole night together talking about the relationship between men and women. Stark talked a lot about her bodyguard and shared her thoughts about him.

Potts was simply dumbfounded by Anita's stories! Such an unapproachable man and how was it even possible to attract him to her?

The two girls had long made a plan to seduce August and did not even notice how they fell asleep together in the same bed. They still hadn't come up with anything. The next morning Pepper got up on her alarm clock and hurried to work. Anita, on the other hand, was left alone in her bedroom.

It was only upon arriving at work that Potts' half-alive consciousness reminded her of yesterday's appointment. Cursing her concern for her friend to herself, the disgruntled girl took over as CEO.

Taking advantage of her immediate superior's favour, Natasha carefully sniffed out information on the newly formed Stark Industries. All data on the company had been confirmed. Stark was now little connected to the weapons business, favouring civilian technology more. But this was only a superficial analysis, made through their own observations and properly installed bugs.

To get any more in-depth information Agent Widow simply couldn't. To do so, it was necessary to break into the company's server rooms, and they were closely guarded by artificial intelligence. There was no way to hack in unnoticed. Natasha was undercover for now and didn't need to draw attention to herself.

Gradually working for Pepper, the professional spy finally got lucky. She met her immediate boss, Anita Stark, and her mysterious bodyguard. Shield had very little information on August, and the think tank was left to wonder and puzzle about him. They had no concrete information on him.

Natasha had placed a bug in the CEO's office in advance. Their secret conversation had already been bugged by the Shield's analytical centre. If any important information came to light, the agency would have more leverage against Stark when they met with her.

Unfortunately, nothing special was heard in that office, and the remaining agents from the analytical centre, working overtime, were left with nothing. Natasha was ordered to continue surveillance and to infiltrate the Stark villa if possible. According to the centre's assumptions, this is where the multi-billionaire kept her futuristic costumes.

The opportunity to get into the target's villa came a couple of days later. Pepper needed to take the documents for the expansion of the production lines to be signed. This used to be handled by the company's board of shareholders, but after Anita's bold statements and the crisis, most of them had sold their shares. Stark had a controlling interest in her company before, but after the strengthening due to the departure or death of most of the shareholders, the young multi-billionaire took the rest of the shares. Leaving even the state with a nose. The ruling elite was angry with her, but did not take any action yet.

Shield had a goal of not only getting their hands on Stark's advanced suits, but also partially forcing her to transfer some of her shares to the state.

Arriving with Potts at Anita's villa, Widow tried to act as natural as possible. Natasha asked to go to the bathroom, but Stark, who was busy signing documents, quietly let her go.

Leaving the hall, the spy was left to herself. She slowly wandered through the corridors and placed bugs, trying not to get caught by the cameras. Artificial intelligence was here as well, providing security for the Stark house. It posed some difficulties during the placement of the listening headset, but the professional spy was able to handle it smoothly.

She walked back into the company of the two girls as if nothing had happened. They didn't even suspect anything about her. Widow was a professional after all, and she could easily put on an innocent expression when she needed it.

The feeling of a job well done pleased Natasha. The spy was sure that after a few days of work, she would be brought back to headquarters and congratulated on a successfully completed mission.

Standing quietly in the corner of the room, pretending to be an interior decorator, a certain feeling never left the girl. Looking around the room, she didn't see Anita's bodyguard anywhere. According to Shield, the white-haired man had always followed the multi-billionaire and was her shadow.

When she first arrived with Pepper at the Stark villa, this silent man in armour was sitting in the corner of the hall reading a magazine. Upon her return, however, the Widow did not find him. A sense of danger began to creep into Widow's gut. She trusted her senses and so, thinking of an excuse, decided to leave the Stark villa.

Stepping outside the spy breathed in a full breath, that pressurising feeling was gone. Apparently the danger had passed, the thought flashed through her mind and she headed for her car.

When Natasha reached the car door, she felt a strong hand on her shoulder. Through the dark reflection of the tinted glass, the Widow noticed a large shadow behind her. The sense of danger inside her screamed loudly, but a professional, that's what a professional is, Natasha, torn by her feelings, did not even raise an eyebrow. A surprised expression crept over the girl's face, matching the expression of a normal girl. She slowly turned around and faced the armoured figure.

"Mr Augustus, did you want something from me? - Natasha asked in a surprised voice, adding a touch of fear. Although inside she was not afraid at all, but already prepared for possible problems.

"What is your name? - The mercenary asked in a casual manner, making Natasha tear up inside from the feeling of danger. Was he playing with her too?

"My name is Amanda Waller," the Widow replied "embarrassed", carefully watching August's movements.

"Amanda? You remind me of someone I know," the man said in a disappointed voice and removed his hand from the girl's shoulder. - Forgive me for my rudeness.

"It's nothing, Mr August, it's all right," the spy's cheeks "blushed" and she fumbled for the keys in her pocket and opened the car.

"All right, the games are over spy!

With her back turned to the man, the Widow only had time to twitch a little as she felt a strong blow on the back of her head. Everything inside her shook, and she fell to the pavement as a doll.

"How are we going to torture you? Brutally or very brutally? - August muttered jokingly, grabbing the unconscious body and dragging it back to the mansion. He had already removed the bugs he had placed beforehand, so he would have some time to have some fun with the spy. - Anita would probably be very surprised when she found out that government spies had snuck into her company.
