Chapter 156 - Stockholm Syndrome? Hard Pass.

I hardly got any sleep through that long, disorienting night in this fancy prison by the lake. My mind was a restless mix of fragmented memories and half-formed escape plans that fizzled out into exhaustion every time I closed my eyes.

Someone had freed my little captive while I drifted off, so I woke in a lonely room once again.

By the time the door clicked open on what I assumed was Day 2, I was already on edge, curled up against the headboard with my arms around my knees, trying to find whatever scraps of defiance I could muster, despite the heavy fog of fatigue clouding my thoughts.

Elias stepped inside, looking as fresh and composed as ever. His red hair caught the soft morning light, and he wore an expression of gentle concern that irritated me more than any blatant threat ever could.

I rolled my eyes so hard they almost got stuck at the back of my head.
