**Chapter 3: An Accident**
The road seemed lonely, just like how Laila felt, her hands gripped to the steering wheel as she drove, tears welled up in her eyes, clouding her vision, the car sped along the lonely road, the audi accelerated to a moderate speed, she had left the windows down, the air weaving through her hair but not her thoughts.
She seemed to be there, but her thoughts weren't.
Laila's thoughts were filled with Peter and Nina's betrayal.
Was she not enough? Did she not love him enough? Did she not treat him well enough?
She couldn't believe her husband had cheated on her, that too for years, not once, not twice but from the very beginning.
So their marriage was all a sham, their marriage was fake, he never actually loved her, he shown up in front of her just to deceive her? Just for her money? Just because she was rich? She didn't stop questioning herself, she wanted to understand why, even if all he wanted was her money, why play her? Why play her feelings? What was the need to toy with her feelings?
"So all you ever wanted was my money right?" She spoke through gritted teeth, "I swear, I would make you bleed money," she swore.
Her face had become firm, but when she remembered all the love, care and memories they shared together, she couldn't help but tear up, her tears finally falling down, the air unable to dry her tears as they flowed nonstop.
Then she thought of Nina. They had known each other for four years now, telling everything to each other, their happiness, sadness, celebrations. But when she thought more into Nina's character, she realized she was wrong, she realized she was the only one who took their friendship seriously, she was the only one who took their bond of friendship to heart, she was the only one who thought that they could be sisters from another world, she had never thought of Nina as her friend, she was her sister, the sister she never had.
Nina never actually liked her, she never thought of her like a sister, the bond she thought they shared was never there, so Nina was jealous of her all along, but why? There was no need to be jealous, because although Nina didn't exactly come from a rich family she never once thought low of her, she looked at her as if they were equals. But now she knew they weren't.
Nina was never worthy of being her friend and Peter was never worthy of being her husband.
The continuous tears seemed to cloud her vision, unable to see for a moment, but who knew that her temporary blindness would cost her.
With her vision blurred, she heard a shrill sound, then the loud horn, then her vision cleared for her to see the trailer coming at her, she forgot to turn, temporarily shocked, coming out of her shock she quickly tried to swerve her car to the side unsuccessfully. The incoming vehicle hit her car, pushing it to the side while turning it upside down, then she looked at her side to realize she hadn't worn her seatbelt, her body turned upside down with her car, her head hitting the steering and the seat rest.
With a loud siren sound and her vision darkening, Laila lost consciousness as blood trickled down her forehead.

Back at Laila's house after she had left without Peter and Nina knowing she had been there, they both got dressed so she wouldn't meet Nina home.
"She had said she wouldn't be coming home early but this is already 6:30 and she's not back yet," Peter said as if worried,
"Well it's good she didn't come because I stayed too long, she would have caught me here," Nina replied, picking up her shoes and wearing them,
"Do you think I should call her?" Peter asked in doubt, picking up his phone
"I don't know, wait let me leave first, then you call her," she suggested, he nodded in reply.
They both left the room, going downstairs, he was about to bid her goodbye when his phone rang, he looked at Nina and they both shared a look before he answered it and put on speaker,
"Hello?" He answered
"Hello," it was a female voice, "please is this a relative of Laila Yde?" The lady asked,
"Yes that's my wife, I'm her husband," Peter replied,
"Sir your wife has just been brought into the hospital, she had an accident," The lady said, Peter's and Nina's eyes widened in shock,
"What?" Peter asked dumbfounded,
"Yes Sir please if you could come to the hospital, it's St.Jones hospital," The lady said before the call went off.
Peter and Nina stood in shock, "she got into an accident?" Nina asked,
"Yeah, I've got to go to the hospital, right now," he said, going back up the stairs to grab his car keys, coming back down, he was about to walk past Nina when she said,
"I'll come with you, I'm her best friend after all," she said. Peter found nothing wrong with her tagging along and they both left together, heading to the hospital.
