Chapter 306 - Chapter 306 The Bell Tolls

"What's different?" Zhong Mu frowned, not wanting anyone to badmouth his brother Xiu behind his back!

Ling Feng leaned close to Zhong Mu's ear and whispered, "He has mutated. He is a player, but he is also mutating into a monster, while we are not."

Zhong Mu shuddered, his pupils widening in surprise.

"He mutated? When did that happen??"

Zhong Mu didn't notice at all! Was Xiu-ge hiding it too well?

"It's normal that you don't know." Ling Feng patted Zhong Mu's shoulder. "You're not familiar with him, so you definitely wouldn't notice, but I've been in contact with him and I can sense that he has some abnormal symptoms. He's definitely mutated."

Zhong Mu remained silent. He was clearly right next to Xiu Ge, even closer, but he had probably been too careless to notice.

The thought that even a mole like Ling Feng had discovered it, while his own dear friend hadn't, made his shoulders slump slightly, and he looked sad.

Unaware of the reason, Ling Feng assumed Zhong Mu was afraid. Seeing the disappointment in those gray eyes, he subconsciously comforted her, "It's okay, don't worry. We just need to take control before things get worse."

"I suspect that Yin Xiu is the origin of the anomaly mentioned on this note. Only when he disappeared can we clear the dungeon."

Zhong Mu glanced at Ling Feng sideways. As expected, he had his eye on Brother Xiu. Brother Xiu might be the origin of some kind of mutation!

Just as Zhong Mu was feeling indignant, he suddenly realized that these dungeons were all prepared by the Night Goddess for Brother Xiu, and that setting Brother Xiu as the enemy of all players was something they really could do!

"No way..." Zhong Mu started to worry, but after a couple of seconds she calmed down. "You guys can't beat that man, can you?"

After all, everyone had been so intimidated by Brother Xiu's imposing presence that they dared not speak.

"It is indeed a bit difficult to fight... That's why I've been gathering manpower. I need to think of a way before her boyfriend arrives." Ling Feng wore a troubled expression. "It would be great if he just disappeared and never came back."

Zhong Mu rolled her eyes quietly, speechless at this heartless player.

After the discussion about formulas ended, Zhong Mu turned to leave, but as soon as he turned around, Ling Feng suddenly grabbed him again.

"Is there anything else?" Zhong Mu stared at the man in front of her, puzzled. Because of Xiu Ge's problem, she had no good feelings towards him at all.

But Ling Feng seemed to have an ulterior motive towards Zhong Mu. "Most of the players in this small base are idiots. I can tell you're a bit different. Do you want to team up with me alone? I'll share the information I find with you."

Zhong Mu instinctively wanted to refuse, but then she thought that getting firsthand information from Ling Feng wouldn't be a bad deal.

"Sure." He nodded with a smile. "I'll let you know as soon as I get the information."

Ling Feng nodded with satisfaction, but his gaze toward Zhong Mu was unusually sticky and unclear, giving Zhong Mu goosebumps.

Thinking back carefully, I realized that I was talking to him while wearing the doctor's face, and I was just another stinky man who was attracted to the doctor's face!

Zhong Mu quickly left, saying he was going to wander around the town to avoid arousing suspicion from the town's players. He didn't want to stay in front of Ling Feng for even a second longer.

Seizing an opportunity when no one was watching, Zhong Mu slipped into a deserted alley and used the communication butterfly to contact the people in the town. He told them everything he had just heard and warned the town's players to be wary of Ling Feng and not to let slip that he had come to act as a mole.

"We can keep it a secret, but if you, as Zhong Mu, don't show up in town for a long time, he'll get suspicious, won't he?"

"Remember to be prepared to have both identities."

Zhong Mu seemed to be deep in thought, considering that his long absence would indeed arouse suspicion. After all, Xiu Ge was someone he had personally witnessed going into the lake and not coming back up. If he didn't show up, it wouldn't be easy to fool him.

Thinking it over, Zhong Mu decided to temporarily drop the pretense and go out as Zhong Mu to fool people.

Just as I peeked out of the alley, I suddenly heard a clear bell ringing in the distance, echoing throughout the entire town.

Zhong Mu immediately froze on the spot, not daring to make a sound, waiting for the black mist to dissipate.

But this time the black fog was extremely thick, and the bell tolled for a long time, as if it were shouting something. The bell tolled particularly fiercely and loudly, unconsciously making everyone in the town tense because of this slight abnormality.

The next second, a bloodcurdling scream suddenly rang out from the black fog, coming from a certain direction of the town, making Zhong Mu's heart skip a beat.

After so many days, they should have gotten used to the arrival of the black fog and shouldn't make any more noise in it unless something unusual has happened.

Zhong Mu frowned, but dared not move. He could only wait for the black mist to dissipate before checking the situation.

It was very dark around him, and he could hardly see anything, but in the silent fog, he could hear the faint sound of footsteps moving.

Is someone moving in the black fog?

The entire town was so quiet that no one dared to make a sound in the black fog, for fear of being swept away by it. Yet now, people were walking around in the fog, and they hadn't been killed.

Zhong Mu held his breath, listening intently to the sounds around him.

It wasn't just one person moving... it was many people moving around. Footsteps were densely packed all over the town, as if something in the black fog was searching for prey.

Zhong Mu felt a chill run down his spine. The town had only been safe for a few days, and before things had even settled down, something new had appeared.

What is this new thing?

He listened intently to the sounds around him, trying to discern the direction of the footsteps. When he sensed one of the footsteps approaching, he immediately narrowed his eyes, trying hard to make out the other person's appearance from the black mist.

As if knowing Zhong Mu was there, the other person slowly moved closer to him.

Zhong Mu froze in place when a pale face appeared in the black mist.

This was a face he recognized, one he had met among the players in the town before, and one of the unfortunate ones who had become monsters. But at this moment, the expression on this face was very unfocused, and it suddenly attacked Zhong Mu as if it were completely unconscious.

In an instant, the other person's figure was twisted into a small wooden figure and fell to the ground, while Zhong Mu stood there pale-faced for a long time without recovering.

Within the black mist... those moving about were all players from the town who had returned as monsters...

They...are attacking the people in the town...

Hearing the screams echoing through the town, Zhong Mu gritted his teeth, his face pale.

Those who were turned into monsters and thrown back were all pawns, pawns that were used to lower their guard while also serving as weapons.

Does the Night Goddess really intend to destroy the town of the 35th Dimension?
