The 'heartthrob' of the school, Eric, an alpha, who had the whole school falling heads over heels for him. Even some alphas were going after Eric! As if he was a goddess.
It was known that Eric already had his heart for someone but no one knew exactly who it was. Usually, betas would not be chosen to be liked by omegas and alphas since betas can neither get pregnant by an alpha nor get an omega pregnant. It was only normal for a beta to date a beta. Thus, most betas had already lost hope and were just constantly curious about Eric's choice.
The omegas chased after Eric, placing flowers on his table every now and then. The alphas would try to befriend him using their second gender status.
What they didn't expect was that Eric's eyes were on a beta!
One day, there was a pathway filled with roses, it led to the pond where Eric stood, holding a bouquet of roses. Everyone was looking forward, their faces filled with anticipation. The hallway was filled from the first floor all the way up to the forth floor. Crowd awaiting for who the lucky omega was. Including Qiangqiu himself. Qiangqiu had his phone on him, filming the scene from the second level.
"Wen Lan! You're missing out! Look at this!" Qiangqiu uttered from behind the screen, wanting to capture this moment in order to brag to Wen Lan.
Just then the lucky 'omega' was led in. His eyes were blindfolded and led by two other alphas. His blindfold was removed and his pretty face was now revealed to the whole crowd
Gasps came.
"A beta?"
They definitely did not expect a beta. Especially not this Beta who did not care about anything!
"Wen Lan!" Qiangqiu called out.
Wen Lan now standing in the pathway of the flowers, which led to Eric who had a smile on his face. The smile on his face, it could easily be described as someone who was confident that things were going to go right for him.
Wen Lan was pushed to move forward by the two alphas, his nose scrunching up as he walked on the roses. He now stood directly in front of Eric, only separated by the bouquet in Eric's arms.
"Will you date me?" Eric confessed, reaching out for Wen Lan's hand and guiding it to the bouquet.
Cheers erupted
"Take it! Take it!"
"Accept him already!"
"I wish I was him…"
"I would have kissed him right then and there.."
Wen Lan was not affected by his surroundings. His gaze remained still, staring into the bouquet for a while. With all his might, he shoved the bouquet of flowers back to Eric's arms and turned to disengage himself from the scene.
It became quiet immediately. No cheers, no loud comments. Just whispers spreading amongst the crowd.
Eric was flabbergasted, his eyebrows lifted up, rushing after Wen Lan. Reaching out for his hands which Wen Lan shook away.
"I'm willing to give you as much money as you want! Why wouldn't you accept me! Do you want 1 thousand? No, I'll give you 100 thousand!" Eric suggested desperately.
Wen Lan ignored the offer and continued walking away.
He disappeared from the open air and backed into the school building. Disappearing into the crowd.
Qiangqiu pushed through the crowd, wanting to rush down the stairs and catch up to Wen Lan. but before that he shouted, " He's allergic to roses you prick!"
Though, Qiangqiu was definitely on Wen Lan's side at that time. Do every alphas just think that everyone's favourite flowers are roses? But, Eric was someone who was indeed goodlooking! If it wasn't for the roses, maybe Wen Lan would've accepted. Or maybe not…
The next few days, school went back to normal except for Eric who hadn't been showing up to school for quite some time.
"Wen Lan, you truly humbled him!" Qiangqiu yapped about that fact literally almost every hour.
Even Eric's own friends had no idea what happened to him. The last time they saw him was after the rejection where he had crashed out so bad that he ended up destroying his own phone. Was he really upset because he got rejected or just because he was humiliated in front of the whole school?
Jokes started spreading that maybe Eric was so embarrassed that he fled back to his hometown. Even memes were being made too! Someone who was once chased after by so many was now an internet joke amongst the school.
Even gossip! Of course, not just about Eric… people just had to bring in Wen Lan
"I don't get Wen Lan… Eric's not even that bad…"
"Wen Lan should be grateful that an alpha would even consider to give him a chance!"
"Exactly… I've never seen a beta openly reject an alpha so bluntly,"
Weeks later, things slowly died down.
Eric too had returned to school, this time, he tried to act nonchalant. Acting as if nothing had happened. Every time someone asked about Wen Lan, he would just foolishly pretend that he did not care anymore.
However, it was clear that he was different. His ego had melted to a quarter of its size. His posture wasn't as arrogant, his gaze wasn't as confident.
Once, during PE class, Wen Lan suddenly lost consciousness in the middle of the game and passed out on the floor. Qiangqiu attempted to carry Wen Lan but after all the strenuous activities, his body felt so numb that could barely move one step with Wen Lan on his back.
Eric suddenly stepped forward. Without hesitation, he reached for Wen Lan. "I'll carry him"
Qiangqiu was too tired and panicked to argue, especially hearing Wen Lan shallow breathing.
When Wen Lan was in Eric's arms, his eyes fluttered open. His vision foggy and his mind lost. His body weak.
But he could easily recognise this alpha in front of him.
"Don't…" Wen Lan mumbled, his voice barely audible. He pushed Eric's chest with all his might. His feet kicked around trying to feel the ground. "I can go myself.." Eric's grip loosened, and Wen Lan pushed himself off. Landing hard on the ground.
Eric reached out a hand but Wen Lan ignored it and continued to drag himself forward. Clinging onto Qiangqiu's arms
Eric froze, his pride shattered once again.
Ever since that incident, Qiangqiu easily concluded that Wen Lan hated alphas.
So now when that figure passed by, Qiangqiu was in disbelief.
"Don't tell me it's him…"
…
No answer… so it is that guy.
"You like jiaquan…?" Qiangqiu muttered out, his volume not loud and not soft.
Wen Lan immediately covered Qiangqiu's mouth. terrified of catching Jiaquan's attention.
Qiangqiu continued staring at Jiaquan's back. You could easily tell that the way Jiaquan presented himself by the way he walked, he was clearly good looking.
Once Jiaquan was out of sight, Wen Lan removed his hands that were covering Qiangqiu's mouth. Letting out a sigh of relief.
"Didn't he just transfer to school last month?" Qiangqiu whispered, "When did you start liking him?"
Wen Lan hesitated for a second, his ears reddened
"Since I saw him on his first day…" he reluctantly admitted.
"And it took you so long to tell me?" Qiangqiu questioned,
He then straightened like a soldier preparing for duty.
"Either way! I'll help you get closer to him!"
Wen Lan smacked his head.
"Let's get out of school first!"
