Chapter 39 - Revealing the truth... soon

(Note:- someone commented that Italic text couldn't be translated. So I am only gonna use them to mimic sounds and the thoughts would have to shown separately by replacing the the double " with a single ' .

Secondly, I am changing the status of the brimstone from a city to a bastion because that suits a flying fortress better. )

Also, if you see any changes in personality of certain characters, they are not just bs made up on spot, and I can guarantee I did it by choice.

___________

-2 days after the siege on Brimstone Bastion-

The capital is in uproar, Completely filled to the brim with knights, mages and merchants each doing their respective work in the repairs.

But more importantly, the looming flames of rebellion had finally died down alongside the announcement of King Augustus's death, causing the people to cheer and laugh their ways to their jobs at ease.

The innocents didn't have to worry about being oppressed anymore, their lives werent on a scale and rigged against on someone's whims any longer.

And above them all, there were two more announcement that were made and many others that would soon follow.

However not everyone was happy, as among one of the thousands of alleys in the capital, several figures cloaked gathered with several emotions brewing within them.

"Before we began, I first want to get a report from everyone to give to Sir Zenon." One among them spoke, his cloak appearing much more expensive compared to others while showing the dark triad symbol.

"The faust house has willingly cut away it's rotten parts in the middle and lower families."

"The silva and Vermilion have joined hands under the new king."

"The rumor about the revival of former wizard kings is also true. I have seen them myself."

"Just yesterday, my Brethren in the administration were caught and taken away to prison."

....

The superior among the cloaked man sighs, his breath causing a small rotten smell to spread through the alley as every person gathering grew more anxious.

The man looked at his underlings, the continuous fear present in their eyes gave him the guarantee of the reports being true.

However no matter how he looked at it, the situation was more unbelievable than a dream. Eventually leaving him to chew his own finger nails as he tried to figure out the mesh he was caught in.

"A dead man coming back to life and becoming the king. The death of our puppet king and revival of four of the strongest mages in the kingdom's history... " The man stops muttering and looks down, "... We are retreating."

"But—"

"-for now."

The man corrected his words. He looks at his underlings, places his skinny skeleton like finger gently on one of their shoulders as he says:

"The report comes first. The more of us that can leave, the better the chance of Sir Zenon receiving the report in good condition. Now go, and don't look back, I have to some flies to take care of."

A grimoire instantly pops out of the man's cloak, his hands quickly getting covered in dark green mana that decayed everything around them.

With a swipe of his fingers, the man decayed the floor beneath his underlings, sending each of them into the sewers as he casted a barrier at the same time.

Clang!!

"A Swordswomen? I can't believe the one stalking my lackeys to be a vulgar looking barbarian with a stone sword."

The man comments as he takes in the appearance of the attacker. It was dark haired girl with mostly loose clothing with blue cloak dawned over his shoulders.

However the girl didn't talk back, instead she lifted her leg high while conjuring high density rocks around her newly bought metal greeves and smashes the barrier into hundreds of shards with a single kick.

The kick landed right in front of the man, the ground shattering to bits beneath him as a dust cloud rose to engulf him.

Having lost his balance, the man could only watch as the dust was blasted away from the winds as a rock sword came slashing down towards him.

He began chanting his prayers, his last wishes and the things he wished he could have done.

BAAAMM!!

...

...

"I. I am alive?" The muttered as he found himself unscathed by the sword.

Meanwhile the girl was crouching beside him, the sword stuck in the ground while she kept holding it in confusion of what she just did.

But the moment the man realised he was free to attack, a orb of glitching light flew through his chest from the back, leaving a hole in place where his heart was supposed be, killing him before he could notice.

Soon the lifeless corpse feel to the ground, collapsing over the girl who thwacked it away with a single punch.

The girl raises her head, looking upwardly at a boy standing high up on a broom above. The boy held the glitchy orb in his hand, smiling arrogantly at the girl from above while his golden cloak fluttered in the wind.

It was none other than Langris and the girl below was Sol marron from the Blue rose. However right now they were here neither on a squad mission or a request but for a optional trial given to then by new king, Asta.

Fwoosh.

Waiting a second, Langris slowly descends on the broom. He takes a quick look at the man's robe before turning back to the Sol, mocking her. " Well Somebody is a little impatient. If you wanna become a swordswomen atleast learn the basics first. "

"YOU—"

"Let's focus on the task . Put that sword and fan girling of yours into the back of your bag and hunt down these fugitives first. "

Sol sneers, "And Why Should I follow your order?!?"

But Langris smirks at her reply, "Order or request, call it whatever you want. However if you want us both to get that subjugation squad spot, you better do something quick. "

The two of them lock eyes, glaring so hard that sparks seemed to fly out.

"Urgh...! Fine! "

Eventually, the prideful misandrist was the first to relent as she accepted her lose and immediately put the sword back into her pouch. Hesitatingly, she slammed her hands on the ground, using a vibration type of sensor magic to find the four people from earlier.

"Two going to the eastern gates, one heading down sewers to the treatment plant and the last idiot is heading towards the palace."

Langris takes a second to analyze the situation. He then snaps his fingers, unhesitatingly jumping into the sewers the next second while talking about his target.

"I will take the treatment plant one and you take the idiot going to the palace. The ones going to the gates will probably be dealt by Sir Conrad."

The suggestion was convincing enough, causing no argument as both Sol and Langris seperated to hunt their targets.

And the same thing was happening not just at their spots but rather throughout the entire kingdom.

Every single magic knight was currently dashing through the streets, hunting down an affiliate of Spade kingdom and any potential spy.

Meanwhile the major cities had either the wizard kings and knight captains looking over the cleansing of the streets. A full way clean up that allowed capturing any person deemed suspicious and full execution on sight of anybody confirmed having loyalty to the dark triad.

But one would ask. why is every magic knight so eager for something like a mission they weren't getting paid for.

... The answer lies in the third announcement done by the parliament, the announcement for the selection of magic knights that would be trained by the wizard kings themselves for a subjugation war on spade kingdom.

And the criteria was simple, the top twenty duos who defeats the most spies will be the ones selected.

And as one would expect, the top ones were either ones that had a good sensory mage and a good fighter like Sol and Langris, or else—

"RUNNN!! IT'S THE MAGIC KNIGH—"

A wind blade slices down several spies at once as Yuno walks out of smoke of a burning tavern while wearing a cape made of spirit magic.

...

- be strong enough to charge at the biggest gathering through sheer force.

___________

Meanwhile at Palace, a single person could be seen clashing swords with another person in the middle of the night.

The two of them were covered in sweats, not a bit of magic infused in neither their bodies nor their attacks.

The ones going head to head were Yami and Asta, both fighting— or maybe training their swordsmanship while giving each other no mercy.

However they weren't just fighting, they were also talking mid-battle.

But as he deflected a strike from Asta, Yami smiled and says, " You have gotten stronger, brat! Did you train in hell or something? "

Clang!!

Asta dodges Yami's fient while knocking him back with kick, "I DID! I was trained by your sister after all!"

The mention of his sister startled Yami, stunning him for just enough time for Asta to close in and point a blade his captain's neck.

"I win." Asta stated, his smile brighter than even as he felt the effects of the spar already kicking into his body.

But Yami didn't budge, only silently grabbing Asta by the head like he always does.

"You met Ichika?? How? When? You better answer when I am still asking or else it won't end well for you, Asta! "

Crack!

With each word he spoke, Yami's grip made Asta's head make a cracking sound.

However Asta couldn't answer, his words covered by the echoes of his pain that came from being squeezed like a lemon.

Eventually Yami lets go of Asta, turning his back to him, he says, "Everyone should have arrived by now. Let's go... Its about time you spilled the beans to everyone."

Then without waiting, Yami leaves Asta behind and heads ahead out of the training ground.

...

Asta shakes his head while he stands up, his feet shaking as he prepares to drop the boomshell of reality on everyone that had been treating him normally for now.

He takes a step forward, determined to clear away any misunderstandings that could happen, however the first step he takes—

Crumble.

-makes the ground crumble beneath him, revealing a sinkhole as he was sent straight down into the sewers where he crashed into the spy Sol was chasing right in front of her.

The impact stuns him for second, his head taking a moment to clear itself as he found Sol looking at him with pure confusion.

He looks around awkwardly, watching as Sol turned away from him with face of disgust alongside a barely visible blush while she moved to cover her eyes.

That's when he noticed that his shirt that had torn to shreds from earlier spar with Captain Yami and slowly begans walking away, only for a slap to hit him the face with the weight of giant boulder, sending him flying away in slow motion.
