Alarick's POV
I quickly began to realize that I must be more careful about what kind of people come around Esmira.
I'm mainly worried about the pack. Would they accept her?
Her skin color plus the fact that she's another species has worried me deeply.
My brows furrowed together as I tiredly wiped my hands down my face.
For thousands of years the pack has kept interbreeding out of the mix. It's what kept the blood line pure.
It was a tradition created by my third great grandparents. This would mean a Vampire couldn't be with a Werewolf, and a White man couldn't be with a Black woman etc. This caused discrimination to grow throughout the kingdom towards race, species, even religion.
One thing council can't control is how I run my Kingdom, it's easier since I was born a Lycan. Which means I can re write the laws that have been around since the very beginning.
It's the 21st century and it's sad that people still have to deal with this.
Racism was just a flaw that I would have to fix in my society. And it could all start with Esmira.
It's truly shameful that it took me this long to consider fixing the problem. There is really no excuse for it, but this issue has been around before I was born.
I've been completely desensitized to the issue, but my eyes are wide open now.
I will do anything to protect her and our unborn children.
Esmira's POV
Crocodile tears ran down my face. It was like a river that I couldn't control. I had heard everything that was said about me. Including the echo of the King's deep scary voice. His anger was brief, but it had still managed to make the house shake.
Flashbacks of what had happened on the plane flooded my mind.
When he comes back will he be mad at me?
Would he spank me again for eavesdropping?
Will he punish me for bringing shame to him?
I couldn't tune these thoughts out even If I tried.
It hurt my soul that I would be the odd one out in the Kingdom. I just came here, and people already hate me.
If I wasn't scared then, I'm absolutely terrified now. To hear rage in the King's voice again... I was a shaking mess in the room that he left me in.
He came back inside with a worried look on his face.
I kept my head down. I was too terrified to make eye contact with him.
He walked towards me and just peered down at me. He was so tall. Since I was sitting down, I was at eyelevel with his crotch.
Once I realized, a blush covered my face, and I looked back away.
His hand gently grabbed my chin forcing me to look up at him.
"Listen Esmira...There will be people who aren't going to like you. It might be because of how you look or what you are, but you'll never have to worry about being at the bottom of the totem pole.
You're royalty now. My Queen.
There is no one in the world who could change that.
They either respect you or die."
I shuddered at his words. They sounded absolute. There was no doubt in my mind about him keeping his word.
