Cassian POV
The battlefield is quiet now.
Too quiet.
Like there had not been a deadly battle here a few minutes ago.
The clearing that had been meant for training looks like the aftermath of a storm. Stones are cracked. Trees are splintered. The ground is scarred by magic and its impact.
Several witches move carefully across the platform, helping the injured and repairing the defensive wards.
But my attention is fixed on one person.
Sarafina.
She sits on the edge of the broken training circle, shoulders slightly slumped, breathing slowly like she's trying to steady herself.
Alistair crouches beside her, one arm around her shoulders to keep her steady. His eyes scan the tree line every few seconds, like he expects the vampires to come rushing back.
I don't blame him.
After what just happened, I would not be surprised.
Thalen steps closer to Sarafina, his staff tapping lightly against the stone floor as he approaches.
"Are you injured?" he asks gently.
