Chapter 1 - Wuthering Waves: Dying Makes Me Stronger [1]

Chapter 1: Resurrection After Death

Crimson blood flowed across the luxurious wooden floor, staining the pristine white priestly robes that symbolized pure faith.

Aeron stared at the corpse riddled with ten thousand transparent holes, momentarily unsure how to react.

Because this was his own damn corpse!

You might not believe it, but Aeron had actually traveled through dimensions.

With a gambling-addicted father, a missing mother, a landmine of a younger sister, and his own shattered self, Aeron—the only sane member of his family—had chosen to take his own life, only to transmigrate into a mobile game called "Wuthering Waves."

Unfortunately, unlike typical web novels, he arrived with neither prestigious background nor special abilities.

His only advantages were a system that remained stubbornly locked and the fact he'd never have to see his family again.

Thus, to secure a stable life, Aeron resolutely chose to take the civil service exam. Relying on his perseverance from his previous life, he joined the Order of the Deep and became a priest.

Unfortunately, while he successfully "made shore," his qualifications didn't match the position.

As a modern youth from the 21st century, the only deity Aeron had ever believed in was the God of Wealth—he possessed no genuine piety toward the Sentinels.

Consequently, many within the Order disliked him, though they could do little about it.

The reason was simple: while Aeron's faith might be lax, his performance metrics compensated for it.

Precisely because his motivations for joining were impure, he excelled at navigating the complex dealings between families like the Montellis and Fisalias and the church.

So now the question arose:

Aeron always clocked in and out punctually, never neglecting any duty—internal or external—as a priest. How did such a model youth end up dead here?

Staring at his own corpse, Aeron began recalling recent events:

Tonight, after battling a pizza at Margaret's Restaurant, he'd suddenly received an overtime notice.

It claimed that a batch of artworks acquired by the Montelli family had encountered issues, requesting Aeron's assistance in smoothing things over.

Aeron's assessment: "Nostradamus' mother! If you want to cause trouble, just say so directly—why beat around the bush?"

But there was no avoiding it—this fell under his responsibilities. Unable to refuse, he personally went to inspect the drop-off location.

What happened next needs little elaboration: Aeron arrived at the Montelli family's rendezvous point and got killed.

The murderer was none other than the Vitreum Dancer still lingering beside his corpse.

"This was obviously a trap from the start!"

Aeron couldn't understand why he remained so unlucky even after transmigrating!

Just as he lamented the world's injustice while gazing at his gruesome corpse, a blue pop-up window suddenly appeared before his eyes.

[Ding! Loading complete. System functions unlocked.]

"You're quite late to the party."

Seriously, whose system only unlocks after the host dies?

Whatever. Having one was better than nothing.

"Enough talk. Since you're this late, show me what you've got!"

[Command received. First activation. Please select the system foundation]

[A: Shadow Monarch System | B: Heroic Spirit Summoning System | C: MC Mod System...]

Damn, it's DIY?

"Obviously picking A. Why even hesitate?"

[Scanning host status... Selection failed. Matching you with the optimal option]

[Matching successful: Legendary Unkillable King System]

"...What does this mean?"

[As this is your first system activation, an introduction will now be provided]

[You can continuously die and resurrect. The system evaluates based on three criteria: the challenge level of death methods, their strategic value, and the spectacle of the scenario. Higher ratings yield greater rewards]

"..."

Aeron couldn't even bother to complain anymore.

He'd seen mission systems, monster-slaying level-up systems, and even systems that required losing money, but what kind of absurd system actively encouraged its host to creatively seek death?

[Please confirm whether to conclude this death settlement. Press 1 for "Yes", 0 for "No"]

"Um... can I ask what happens if I choose 0?"

[The system will return you to your original timeline before transmigration]

"1111111111111111111111111!"

[Ding! Host authentication successful]

With a crisp notification tone, Aeron's consciousness instantly returned to his body.

He looked down to find all his previous countless wounds had completely vanished.

"Holy shit, spamming 1 actually works!"

But before he could savor the feeling of resurrection, the Vitreum Dancer immediately detected Aeron's presence. Its blade emitted a sharp hum as it lunged toward him again.

"Again?!"

The familiar searing pain returned. Unable to dodge in time, Aeron only registered the sensation of his body being torn apart.

[Death by Torn Apart. Rating: E. Unimaginative careless death. Common as roadside weeds]

[Reward Obtained: Minor Slash Resistance increase]

"Go dream your fucking dream!" Aeron cursed into the void before his consciousness returned once more.

When he looked around again, the Vitreum Dancer's blade was already before his eyes.

[Death by Decapitation. Rating: E]

[Reward Obtained: Minor Slash Resistance increase]

What followed was an endless cycle of death and rebirth.

The Vitreum Dancer kept mechanically repeating its killing motions without pause.

After who knows how much time had passed, as the Vitreum Dancer launched another attack, the glass blade that had easily pierced Aeron's body moments earlier now only left shallow wounds.

Before its Echoes could process this development, its weapon-wielding arm was suddenly seized with tremendous force. Then Aeron headbutted directly into its face!

Thud!

As the Marionette lost balance, Aeron twisted its wrist and drove the glass blade deep into its chest.

The Marionette immediately went limp, collapsing motionless on the floor.

"Huff... huff..."

Panting heavily, Aeron shook out his hands. He'd lost count of how many times he'd been killed.

Fortunately, the system lived up to its name—truly making him unkillable, giving him the means to fight back.

Bang!

Before Aeron could catch his breath, the sound of shattering glass came from behind. A bullet whizzed past his ear, embedding itself in the floorboards where it slowly bloomed into a crystalline flower.

"Never expected night patrol would bring such an unexpected guest."

Turning around, Aeron saw the newcomer clearly in the moonlight streaming through the broken window.

Elegant silver hair parted in the middle, bright cyan-white pupils, wearing an exquisite short dress adorned with gemstones, a magenta oversized bow tied at the back of her head, and legs clad in black thigh-high socks that, while not adding to her height, accentuated her figure.

This person was none other than the second daughter of the Montelli family, Carlotta Montelli.

"Reverend sir, regardless of your purpose in coming here, at this moment, please surrender."

Crystalline bullets coalesced at the muzzle of her gun—it seemed she had mistaken Aeron for an intruder breaking into an empty house.

"Uh... would you believe me if I said I'm one of the good guys?"

Aeron, covered in blood, surrounded by chaos, and with an Echo lying defeated beside him, spoke these words.
