Chapter 15 - CHAPTER 15 — A Late Arrival

The sun filtered through the windows of the lecture hall, casting long streaks of light across rows of attentive students. Hope sat near the front, her notebook open, pen poised, ready for another day of learning. Zara was beside her, already whispering small observations about campus life.

The professor, standing at the podium, was beginning the lecture when the door at the back creaked open. Heads turned instinctively.

A tall, strikingly handsome male student walked in, just slightly out of breath, his movements composed yet casual. His hair was dark and tousled in a way that looked deliberate, his eyes a sharp shade of brown that seemed to notice everything around him. He carried himself with a confidence that didn't demand attention but naturally drew it.

The professor's brows lifted. "Mr…?" she asked, scanning her notes.

"James," he replied smoothly.

"And why are you arriving late, Mr. James?" the professor asked, her tone sharp but fair.

James paused, a faint grin tugging at his lips. "Well, ma'am… my alarm didn't seem to agree with the start time of your lecture. It's clearly conspiring against me, but I promise I'm here now, ready to learn."

The class let out a few amused chuckles. The professor's lips twitched, a hint of suppressed amusement. "Conspiring, huh? Very well. Just make sure it doesn't happen again."

"Yes, ma'am," he said respectfully, bowing his head slightly before moving to an empty seat a few rows from the front.

Hope's pen paused mid-note. She felt a faint smile creeping onto her lips. He's… handsome. There was something in the tilt of his head, the ease of his posture, and the subtle confidence in his voice that made her notice him immediately.

In her mind, she took note: tall, dark hair slightly messy but perfect, eyes sharp and observant, smile confident yet gentle. The kind of presence that could make an entire room notice without him even trying.

She smirked quietly to herself, feeling a spark of curiosity she hadn't expected. Hope Turner, who had faced new challenges, rivalries, and a whirlwind of experiences in the past day, found herself suddenly intrigued by this newcomer.

Interesting… she thought, tapping her pen against her notebook. He'll be someone to watch.

As the professor continued with the lecture, Hope stole glances at him discreetly, noting how he listened, how he occasionally shifted in his seat, and how he seemed calm in a way that was rare. There was a spark of playful energy in him that reminded her subtly of her grandmother's laughter—a warmth beneath the surface.

By the end of the class, she realized two things:

One, James wasn't just handsome—he had a presence that left a lasting impression.

Two, she wasn't sure why, but she wanted to know more.

The day had already begun with excitement, rivalry, and lessons to learn, but this unexpected arrival added a hint of curiosity to the mix—an element Hope hadn't anticipated, and one that would quietly shape the days ahead
