Chapter 1 - First Disappearance

Mia stood in front of the hospital where everything had begun.

Her internship.

Her curiosity.

And now… the danger she and Andrew were running from.

Three months ago

She never imagined a hospital could calm her down. College stress vanished the moment she stepped inside—maybe because the staff was warm, the atmosphere felt familiar, and most patients treated her like their own daughter.

She had two friends here Holly and Catherine who made the long shifts easier to survive.

"Mia, darling, could you go to Room 309 and get the report, please?" the receptionist called out.

"Aye aye, captain!" Mia saluted dramatically.

Her cheerful voice echoed across the corridor as she made her way past the Old Wing.

The area was supposedly under renovation—but no one ever entered it.

No sounds.

No workers.

Just a locked door and silence.

Why is no one allowed here? she wondered, but she kept walking.

When she pushed open the door of Room 309, she found Andrew already inside.

"Hey, Andy," she greeted.

"Oh, hi, Mi," he replied, surprised. "What brings you here?"

"Just getting the reports. What about you?"

"Oh, Mrs. Smith was feeling lonely, so she called me," he said, gesturing to the frail old woman on the bed, smiling weakly at them.

Before Mia could greet her, the monitor beeped rapidly.

They both panicked rushing closer only to realize she was just coughing.

"Mrs. Smith," Mia sighed in relief, "how many times do I have to tell you to stop walking outside without a beanie? Now you've caught a cold again."

"Oh dear, it's nothing," the old woman waved her off.

Mia grabbed the report and left the room with a soft smile.

The Next Day

Mia was sitting on a bench outside, sipping her coffee, when she saw Andrew walking toward Room 309.

"Hey, Andy! Where are you going?"

"Oh—Mrs. Smith said she'd get bored," he explained.

"Wait, I'm coming!" Mia jumped up and joined him.

But when they entered Room 309… it was empty.

They looked at each other, confused.

Maybe she had gone to the restroom—old people took their time, after all.

But ten minutes passed.

And something about the silence felt wrong.

"Mia… I'm not getting a good feeling about this," Andrew muttered.

"Wait here, I'll check the restroom," she said and hurried out.

But the restroom was just as empty.

"Andy!!" she shouted, her voice cracking.

He came running.

"What happened, Mi?"

"She isn't here either."

Panic settled between them, sharp and cold.

They rushed to the reception desk.

"Mia? Andrew? Why are you both running?" the receptionist asked, worried.

"Mrs. Smith is gone! Do you know where she is?" Mia's voice trembled.

The receptionist's expression shifted instantly—worry fading into something cold and unreadable.

"She was transferred," she said flatly.

"Transferred?!" Mia blurted. "Where? Why? She was recovering!"

"No, she wasn't."

The receptionist didn't look at them.

"If you want details, check the transfer form. Now don't bother me—I have work to do."

Her tone had turned unnaturally sharp.

Mia picked up the transfer form.

It looked wrong.

Typed in a hurry.

Fields left half-filled.

Signatures shaky… almost frightened.

This wasn't normal.

This wasn't right.

And neither Mia nor Andrew realized it then, but…

the moment they touched that file, they stepped into a secret the hospital would do anything to protect.

They were already trapped.
