Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Wanting to Grow Up Quickly

The reason Jing Yuan chose two different breakthrough sequences was due to the different roles he had designated for his two bodies.

Jing Yuan is developing in the direction of a strategist, so he must first improve his mental strength. When he enters the Professional Academy in the future, he will enroll in the Commander Academy.

Gu Xiao, on the other hand, is developing in the direction of a warrior, so he must first enhance all aspects of his physical body. When he enters the Professional Academy, he will enroll in the Combat Academy.

"Mmm~"

After the breakthrough ended, Gu Xiao stretched and got out of bed.

"Click."

Just then, the sound of the door lock turning rang out, followed by the door opening a crack, and a pair of small eyes peered into Gu Xiao's bedroom.

Gu Xiao walked to the door and pulled it open. Gu Yue, the little girl who had been leaning on the door frame peeking inside, suddenly lost her support, stumbled forward two steps, and was about to fall to the floor.

"Ah!"

A cry of alarm rang out, and Gu Yue actually raised her two little hands to cover her eyes.

A moment later, the expected pain didn't arrive. Gu Yue felt herself being caught by an arm.

Her pale, tender fingers parted slightly, allowing her to peek out.

Gu Yue saw that she was still at least an arm's length above the ground.

"Phew."

Realizing she hadn't fallen, Gu Yue immediately let out a breath, dropping her arms to rest on Gu Xiao's arm.

Gu Xiao was amused by Gu Yue's series of small actions and simply picked her up from behind.

"Why were you leaning outside the door peeking?"

Gu Xiao held Gu Yue in her arms and turned to walk out of the bedroom.

"I came to call Sister for dinner. Dad and Mom said Sister was cultivating and couldn't be disturbed, so they told me to wait until you woke up before calling you downstairs."

Worried that she might disturb Gu Xiao, Gu Yue hadn't entered Gu Xiao's room, only opening the door a crack to check the situation inside.

"Come on, let's go down and eat."

Gu Xiao carried Gu Yue and walked down the stairs.

The second-floor landing was next to the back kitchen. As soon as Gu Xiao came down, she saw her parents bustling intensely in the kitchen.

Noon was the busiest time of the day. Gu Zhixing and Ruan Qinghuan were so busy in the back kitchen their feet barely touched the ground.

"Xiao Xiao is down. The food is on the dining room table. You and your sister should eat first."

Ruan Qinghuan looked up when she saw Gu Xiao descending with Gu Yue in her arms.

The so-called dining room was actually just a small area between the back of the kitchen and the staircase.

It was barely big enough to fit a table and a few chairs, and they still had to leave room for one person to pass near the staircase on the right.

"Got it."

The dining table was right in front of the staircase. As soon as Gu Xiao came down, she saw the rice and several dishes, a mix of meat and vegetables, laid out on the table.

Sitting by the table was a handsome young boy. Although he still looked somewhat childish, it was clear he would grow into a sunny and attractive young man.

After all, neither Gu Zhixing nor Ruan Qinghuan had poor genes when it came to appearance.

"Sis, we have your favorite braised pork today. Hurry up."

The boy was Gu Xiao's younger brother, Gu Jingchuan, who was currently in the second year of junior high.

"I'm coming."

Gu Xiao carried Gu Yue to the table, set her down, and sat across from Gu Jingchuan.

"Go take a nap after you eat, so you don't get sleepy this afternoon."

"No need. At my age, I'm full of energy. I definitely don't need an afternoon nap."

Hearing Gu Xiao's words, Gu Jingchuan shook his head.

The shop was busy at noon, and he certainly needed to stay downstairs and help out with odd jobs.

"Are you referring to the last time you did a test while sleeping, covered the whole paper in scribbles, and ended up having Mom and Dad called in?"

Gu Xiao laughed as she placed a piece of meat into Gu Yue's bowl.

"Ahem, ahem, that was an accident."

Gu Jingchuan coughed twice awkwardly upon hearing his sister's teasing.

After eating, Gu Xiao and Gu Jingchuan helped serve the food in the shop.

Little Gu Yue ran back and forth behind the two of them. She wanted to help too, but she was too small, and Gu Zhixing and Ruan Qinghuan certainly wouldn't dare let her carry bowls.

After running around a few times and realizing she couldn't help at all, Gu Yue pushed a stool, which was a head taller than she was, over to the door.

She gripped the stool with both hands, pushed up with her short legs, and hoisted herself onto the seat.

Facing the street outside, she rested her chin on her small hands, a look of melancholy on her face.

"What's wrong, Little Yueyue?"

When a regular customer entered the shop and saw Gu Yue looking like she was contemplating life, they couldn't help but ask with a smile.

"I want to grow up quickly," Gu Yue replied.

"What's so great about growing up? You work yourself to death every day, like a beast of burden. Being a kid is so much better; you can be carefree every day."

After the customer finished ordering on the transparent screen on the table, they chatted with Gu Yue while waiting for their meal.

"But I'm too small right now. This dignified three-foot body of mine is completely useless."

Gu Yue sighed and said, frowning deeply.

"Hahahahaha..."

Gu Yue's amusing appearance made all the surrounding diners burst into laughter.

Meanwhile, at the Jing family home.

After his breakthrough, Jing Yuan came out, ate lunch, and went back to his room to sleep.

However, Jing Yuan had barely lain down when he heard a knock at the door.

"Shan Hai, see who's outside?"

As Jing Yuan's voice faded, a virtual screen appeared before him, displaying the scene outside his bedroom.

Standing outside Jing Yuan's bedroom were his parents, Jing Dongfeng and Pei Lingyi, along with his older sister.

"What is it?"

Jing Yuan put on his slippers, walked to the door, opened it, and addressed the three people outside.

"What is it? What do you mean, 'What is it'?"

Jing Dongfeng glared, and the three of them walked into Jing Yuan's bedroom.

The three sat down by the coffee table. Jing Yuan took out teacups and poured each of them a glass of water.

He had probably guessed why his parents had come over.

"Is what your sister said true?"

Jing Dongfeng didn't specify the matter, but given the timing of their visit, it was obvious what they were asking about.

"It's true."

Jing Yuan sat down on the sofa and nodded.

Jing Dongfeng turned the teacup round and round in his hand, as if the cup were scalding hot.

"How can you prove that what you said is true?"

It wasn't that Jing Dongfeng didn't trust his son; it was just that the whole thing sounded utterly ridiculous.

"Dad, do you remember how I used to constantly bump into the door when I was little?"

Jing Yuan had long thought about how to explain this matter.

"Yes."

Jing Dongfeng nodded. At the time, he had worried that his youngest son might be mentally handicapped and had already planned out the rest of his life.

He had intended to keep Jing Yuan by his side forever, letting him eat, drink, and live as a carefree, wealthy man.

Since Professionals had long lifespans, they weren't worried about Jing Yuan lacking care in the future.
