Homer felt it was imperative that he conduct a thorough investigation.
Jared shrugged. "Look, I'm not forcing anything on you. I'm just putting an option on the table—take it or leave it." He placed his mug down and fixed his gaze on Homer and his companions.
Years in this position had taught him every angle—take whatever you can get, however you can get it.
When none of them gave him a nod, Jared's expression soured. He shot them a hard look. "What's the holdup? Still thinking it over? I don't give a damn who you think you are—once you're in Hillview, you better keep your heads down."
Homer sneered. "Is that so? That's a good one. I didn't expect the Hillview public security system to be this corrupt. Looks like coming here today was the right call after all."
"And who the hell do you think you are?" Jared shot back.
"Nothing too special—just your incoming municipal party secretary," Homer said, keeping his voice level.
