As Shen Yi walked out of the inn, he finally began to observe the village properly.
Even though he had lived here for most of his life, he barely knew the place. He had grown up in a childcare home and was never allowed to go outside without supervision certainly not alone. There was always the danger of children being kidnapped, so their movements were strictly restricted. As a result, Shen Yi was unfamiliar with most of the village excluding, of course, the knowledge he possessed from his otherworldly memories.
The owner and caretaker of the childcare home was Mister Shi.
He was the one who had kicked Shen Yi out but not out of cruelty. Mister Shi was already taking care of more than a dozen orphans. Shen Yi was educated, healthy, and fully capable of working. It was time for him to be responsible for his own life.
Before sending him away, Mister Shi had even pointed out places where he could look for work an inn, a library, or nearby farmlands. He had also given him twenty copper coins to help him start.
Yet Shen Yi had been a coward back then.
He had begged not to be abandoned, clinging desperately to the only shelter he had ever known. But Mister Shi remained firm. Most of the children under his care were below ten years old they were his priority. Shen Yi needed to experience the harshness of the world. Otherwise, he would never survive it.
Pulling himself back to the present, Shen Yi looked around the village.
Most of the land in Brown Soil Village lived up to its name dry, brown earth stretched everywhere. The houses were mostly two stories tall. Though the families living in them were not large, the houses were built spaciously to store rations and essentials in bulk, just in case of emergencies.
Between the houses were narrow alleys. Beggars often occupied these spaces. While they weren't numerous and didn't pose much of a problem, they could still be seen from time to time.
Shen Yi immediately recalled something important.
This is where the beggars usually stay…If my memory is right, this place gives rise to an opportunity to obtain a Supreme Inheritance.
But there was no need to rush. There was still plenty of time.
Continuing down the road, he passed several farmlands where wheat swayed gently in the breeze.
Brown Soil Village has extremely fertile soil, Shen Yi thought. A river flows through it from the west. But beyond the village lie dense forests dangerous beasts and plants reside there.
He soon stopped in front of a familiar building.
"Hm… Mister Shi said to go right from the inn, cross the farmland, and I'd reach the village center," he muttered. "So… where's the library?"
After wandering through a few streets, he finally found it.
A four-story-tall building stood before him, about forty feet wide. It was constructed from solid stone slabs, giving off an ancient, enduring presence—as if it had survived countless years.
This was the public library of Brown Soil Village.
Its name was engraved clearly above the entrance:
Wisdom Well Library
Shen Yi's eyes lit up.
My first job…And the beginning of my cultivation journey.
This time, he knew exactly what he needed to do.
