Chapter 178 - Chapter 178: I Could Catch This Lugia, Right?

Lugia, one of the legendary giant bird Pokémon in the Kanto Region.

Legend has it that because of its overwhelming power it can only drift silently in the depths of the ocean, and supposedly when Lugia flaps its wings it can trigger storms that last up to 40 days.

Without question, Lugia is a Legendary Pokémon on par with Ho-Oh, and Caitlin still holds some expectation for Lugia.

After all, Lugia is also known as the guardian of the seas!

But… this one seems so small?

" Lord Lugia …"

Miki and Zuki are both stretched thin, staring at this Little Lugia that's barely under a meter tall; the two women go pale.

They've both wanted to meet Lugia and Ho-Oh, hoping they could forgive past mistakes by their ancestors.

But this Lugia here is not the one they expected!

"Uww~"

The Little Lugia stumbles to its feet, waddling like a duckling, following Damian, trying to bite the bread in Damian's hand.

Its pose is absolutely adorable.

"This kid must be very young; I wonder where its mother is."

Damian hands the bread to the Little Lugia; the Little Lugia yaps and chomps away happily.

Sure enough, even a legendary Pokémon, its offspring can be this adorable and naive.

"Damian, do you think I can catch it?"

Caitlin looks at the Little Lugia with bright eyes; she adores this adorable little one.

And now that she knows it's Lugia's offspring, she likes it even more!

And this is something she herself caught! What does that say?

It says she's got a natural bond with this Little Lugia! A fortuitous fate! Moreover Lugia has psionic powers!

"Catching it isn't difficult; its mind isn't mature yet, but the main issue is its parents."

Damian strokes his chin, not overly invested in this Little Lugia, though he finds it interesting.

He also vaguely remembers that Lugia's mother places great importance on Little Lugia, to the point that if Little Lugia vanishes, Lugia's mother would go berserk.

That shows how much Little Lugia means to Lugia's mother.

But honestly, this isn't surprising—Lugia, as a top predator at the world's Pokemon food chain, would find it extremely difficult to bear and raise offspring.

"Lugia's… offspring…"

Caitlin falls silent, but deep down she's still deeply disappointed.

But this is to be expected; Caitlin pulls out a handful of power blocks that her main roster's special Psychic-type Pokémon love.

"Want some of this? You'll probably like it."

Caitlin steps in front of Little Lugia, crouching down softly, the power blocks box opening before it.

"Uww~"

The Little Lugia sniffs and its eyes light up immediately.

It hungrily devours the blocks, clearly famished.

"Slow down, there's lots more—don't choke."

Caitlin gently strokes the Little Lugia's neck, the soft feathers feeling wonderful.

"I wonder if this Little Lugia's feathers have any effects."

Damian picks up a feather from the ground, examining the shimmering silver-gray feather with curiosity.

Lugia's Silver Wing is also a kind of item used in games to summon Lugia, and it's one of the things used to craft GS Ball.

The Masked Man wants to catch Ho-Oh and Lugia mainly for their feathers, to craft something that can catch Celebi who time-jumps.

But those feathers belong to adult Lugia; will the Little Lugia's feathers have the same effect? That's what worries Karen and Will as well.

They had been napping, planning to check on Damian's progress, when they saw the Little Lugia playing happily.

Will's brain stalls.

"This… is this okay?"

Will hesitates, wondering if the Little Lugia's feathers are what the Masked Man needs.

If these feathers are useless, what if the Masked Man gets angry?

"Karen, what do you think?"

"You asking me? Who else would you ask?" Karen rolls her eyes, unimpressed.

She thinks it should be fine to keep a Little Lugia's feather as a memento, but the question is whether these feathers are the Masked Man's needs.

"Wait, why is the sky turning dark?"

Abruptly, Karen notices something unusual.

The previously clear, blue sky has suddenly dark clouds rolling in, covering the sun.

The calm water on the surface roils, as if anger has awakened.

A heavy, oppressive mood fills the air, making it hard to breathe.

"What's going on?"

Miki presses a hand to her chest, eyes scanning the surroundings; this suffocating feeling feels like a top-tier Pokémon has noticed them!

A low, mournful call floats toward Damian and the others.

"Urrrgh Urrrgh"

The Little Lugia hears the sound, bouncing with joy toward the waves.

"Looks like the Little Lugia's parent has come for it."

Damian soft laughs, eyes fixed on the distant sea.

A huge black shape is rising from beneath the sea toward their direction.

Lugia may be called the guardian of the seas, but in truth Lugia isn't a Water-type; it's Psychic and Flying.

But Lugia does have the power to control celestial phenomena; legend says its wingflaps can stir storms and calm the raging sea.

Though called the guardian of the seas, Lugia, like Ho-Oh, is basically a very gentle and kind Legendary Pokémon.

Lugia originates from the sea, and thus embodies many of the sea's qualities: gentle, tolerant, beautiful.

People rescue others at sea in disasters or emergencies when Lugia is nearby, and Lugia will unconditionally help humans.

Over time, Lugia's legend grows; those saved by Lugia call it the guardian of the seas.

But even a gentle Lugia can anger!

"Urrrgh~!"

The mournful call grows louder; a massive silver-white bird Pokémon slowly rises from the sea, cascading water around it.

Its silver-white elegant form resembles the Little Lugia, but its size is completely different.

What's more, a strong, oppressive aura pours from its body!

That dense, suffocating pressure makes it hard to breathe, and its eyes—angry and icy.

"Uww–!"

Lugia emits another cry, its sight falling coldly on Damian and the group.

"Hey, hey, this isn't a joke, kid; this Lugia seems to think we're its enemies."

Karen's words sound teasing, but the gravity in them is clear.

Feeling the fearsome aura of this Lugia, Karen suddenly realizes that her previous idea of catching Lugia is ridiculous.

Indeed, the Masked Man's ability to Catch Lugia and Ho-Oh was only because he is the Masked Man.

"We didn't do anything to Little Lugia; what's there to fear?"

Damian isn't bothered, but he turns to see Lugia's mother opening its mouth, white gusts of wind forming.

This is the Lugia clan's signature move, Aeroblast, and it's about to unleash.

"Kid, you sure you're okay?" Karen's hairs stand on end.

Every cell in her body reminds her—if that attack lands, she might not even have a speck of dust left!

Karen grips a Poké Ball, ready to throw at a moment's notice.

Damian is surprised too; he knows Lugia's mother values Little Lugia, but this is too blunt—suddenly using a signature move?

Surely that's excessive.

"Kyogre!"

Damian doesn't want to gamble on Lugia's mother stopping the attack, so he unleashes Kyogre.

The blue deep-sea king appears above Damian's head, its eyes cold and unforgiving as it stares down the Lugia mother.

"And what is that?"

Karen, Miki, and the others stare in astonishment at the sudden arrival of this enormous Pokémon.

Lugia's mother looks at Kyogre with a hint of surprise in her eyes.

She can tell Kyogre came from a human's Ultra Ball; Kyogre has been caught by humans?

The Lugia mother is shocked; in the Lugia clan's view, Kyogre's temper isn't very good.

Although the origin of the seas, Kyogre can only expand the sea by rain; what else does it do? It doesn't seem to meddle much.

The maintenance of sea matters aren't always lugia's job?

Lugia's mother is puzzled, but Aeroblast gradually subsides; if Kyogre's Trainer isn't trying to harm her child, maybe it's okay?

"Looks like you're hearing me; we didn't kidnap your child; we're fishing, he took the bait himself."

Damian says without a blush; and he isn't lying about kidnapping—catching Little Lugia isn't something he ever imagined.

As for kidnapping, there's no way; Little Lugia was full from food by the time it was caught.

Lugia's mother exhales a sigh of relief, and as her mood eases, the clouds clear, and the surging waves on the water gradually settle.

"Uww~"

The Little Lugia clearly isn't rattled by the tense moment, running toward Lugia's mother with open arms.

Lugia's mother quickly lowers herself to the ground, holding Little Lugia and nuzzling its head gently.

This heartwarming scene is truly moving.

Kyogre glances at Little Lugia, then at Lugia's mother, seeming puzzled.

"Urrr—uhh—"

After a while, Little Lugia's happy squeaks direct toward Lugia's mother; its little wings point toward Damian and the others.

Lugia's mother immediately understands what's happening; her gaze toward Damian and the others is tinged with apology.

"Sorry for scaring you earlier; thank you for looking after my child."

A soft telepathic female voice whispers in Damian's ears—that's Lugia's mother's Telepathy.

"No problem; we understand."

Damian smiles.

"This child is only a little over a hundred years old; its temperament is still very juvenile, and I've always worried it might be deceived."

Lugia's mother looks at Little Lugia with affection.

"Only a hundred or so years old"…

Karen's lips part; her expression is almost creepy as she looks at Little Lugia, which makes sense given Lugia lineage and long lifespans.
