Maltin-one of the orphans who lived in the orphanage until he was adopted by a rich and respected family in the city, he became the hate victims of the other orphans who were not adopted. Like Flester, he had black raven-like hair and black eyes reflecting ideals like Flesters own.
Later on both Flester and Maltin attended the academy, at the age of eight. Now they are fourteen, six years together in the orphanage, then Maltin was adopted and two years later, they met each other again in the academy, and spent another six years as classmates, and during all this time, they never exchanged words.
"Did you just say fight?" Flester asked to his classmate to whom he never spoke and all he received was a nod.
Before Flester could give an answer, Maltin appeared in front of aiming a punch to his face which Flester narrowly dodged moving to the right.
"You're gonna lose if you don't take this seriously, Flester"
Jumping a few feet back to make distance, he nodded and looked at Maltin "But why do you wanna fight me?"
"Is there a reason why I should not?" He said narrowing his eyes with a mocking look he did not try to hide.
Flester closed his eyes, "If I say no to this now, all my other classmates might think I am weak, that's the last thing I'd want" he thought taking a step front "Alright then, we'll have it your way this time".
He gave his surrounding a studied glance, the ground was large with all their classmates including Fey, stood at one side, front of the gate. Behind Flester, a few metres away was a forest, its leaves covered with ice and snow.
The huge ground they stood on right now was plain with a few places covered with snow.
A really fair battle.
"Here I come" Maltin dashed towards Flester who calmly stayed in his place studying Maltin "He has trained himself properly" he thought before jumping above to dodge a kick.
Maltin turned skidding as a ball of lightning formed in his hand with a huge crackling sound. With a bit of light energy, he used it to fire the lightning ball onto Flester who was still in the air.
Flester, covering his arm in flame used it to block the lightning ball which quite did not deflect it, though it was enough for Flester to resist the damages.
BOOM a cloud of smoke appeared where the lightning ball hit Flester, though he landed down with no damages to both him and his dress.
"That was good" Flester commented.
"I should be the one to say that, Flester" Maltin replied coolly, with a smirk which did not sit right with Flester.
This time it was Flester who rushed to Maltin with a flame ball which he fired at him which Maltin had no problem dodging. Though, when Flester suddenly disappeared and appeared behind him, he had no way of dodging the punch to his face.
The punch was quite strong and Maltin flew before regaining his balance and landing on his feet. He launched a lightning to which Flester replied with a flame ball which crashed equally cancelling each other out.
Maltin dashed through the smoke expecting Flester to be right in front of him until he was not there forcing him to stop in his tracks.
"You're gonna lose if you don't take this seriously, Maltin" Flester commented behind him, almost like a whisper, Maltin spun around aiming a spinning punch to his neck.
Ducking under Maltins punch and with his gut so open, Flester gathered light magic to his hands and punched twice on Maltins gut with speed not possible for a newly graduate. Maltin went flying and this time he fell on the ground rolling with dust covering his clothes and body.
"It's not over is it?" Flester asked Maltin who got up with shaky before regaining his balance "It's not, not yet, so don't drop your guard, you bastard" Maltin shouted, determination flashing on his eyes.
"You can do it" a whisper, though in the silent chilly weather, everyone heard it. It was May's voice, a shy girl with orange ling hair in a pony and purple eyes, also the girl Maltin liked, known to the whole school except her with all his antics.
Flester looked like a lost soul when he caught up with the fact that this battle was also to only impress her.
He sighed " Looked like you achieved what you wanted" Flester commented loud enough for all to hear. " When are you planning to propose her?" this was louder and everyone knew about whom he was talking about.
"What are you saying, don't make excuses to escape-" " Yeah, yeah you are stronger and I have no ways to defeat you, now go get her" Flester said breaking Maltin's talks and caught him by his collar and threw him in font of the crowd with everyone moving aside as Maltin landed on his feet in front of the shy and blushing May.
For a moment, no one talked, until May tried to say something but stopped when she met his eyes. "umm... May" Maltin called out to her, "Y-YES" she replied a bit loudly clearly showing she was too shy with her classmates crowding upon her conversation.
Flester caught Fey by her hand when he saw her showing the lightest interest in wanting to disturb the event. "What do you think you are doing, commoner?" she asked quite arrogantly though the fear in her eyes did not go unnoticed by Flester.
"I REALLY LOVE YOU, MAY" Maltin literally shouted on Mays face taking her aback though it was not unexpected "W-Would you...um like to join me on my adventure? I swear on my life I'll protect you till the day I die."
May's face turned her as she could not take this much as she could only muster one word before she fainted with a big smile "Yes..."
A moment of silence, then as Maltin caught the fainted girl, all the graduates cheered shaking Maltin like a madman... all except two.
"Are you planning to ask me out too?" Fey asked with her usual rudeness staring at Flester.
"No" "Then when are you planning to let go of my hand?" Fey asked and Flester could only close his eyes and scold himself for his stupidity "I beg for your forgiveness, princess of the Frost clan" Flester's words were sincere and he let go of her hand.
"Since I liked your act of forgiveness, I'll spare you this once... but I did not except you to help a relationship flourish"
"Would you not?" Flester asked back "I would not sacrifice a fight where I was winning for this" Fey commented.
"Indeed you would not, but why win if there is no actual meaning in the victory, I would never sacrifice a winning battle with a meaning to it, but I see no actual problem in losing a meaningless battle for me if it benefits my opponent without putting me in a disadvantage"
Fey nodded, satisfied with the answer, she turned back seeing her vehicle arrive.
"You're gonna go in that? What is the use of exposure to the outer world then?"
"I'm already strong, I'll be switching between adventure and a challenger anytime I feel like, so don't be in a state of shock if we cross paths".
"Are you going to answer my question or not?" Flester asked sharply to which fey stopped and slightly turned back "I'm a noble heiress, there's no need for me to travel alone like you guys" she answered quite cockily.
"That mindset will never let you grow as an individual," Flester said to Fey. She frowned at his words. "You'll understand when you have power," she replied before leaving in her chariot and riding away.
"I should take my leave too," Flester muttered to himself. Before anyone could notice, he was gone.
