Chapter 152 - Face to Face

The Ruins - Cairo

The collision of the two energy barriers created a violent, howling spatial storm.

Sand and debris whipped through the air in a tornado.

Ultimately, Azazel's spatial shield was slightly inferior to the First Mutant's raw, ancient power.

Apocalypse's hard-light barrier crushed the red devil's shield, shattering it like glass.

But Azazel's mastery of space was far deeper and more fluid.

Before Apocalypse's crushing barrier could touch his skin, a micro-wormhole snapped open directly beneath Azazel's boots.

It swallowed him whole, leaving Apocalypse to crush empty air.

The sudden disappearance left the ancient god momentarily stunned.

A split second later, Apocalypse sensed a sharp, lethal danger descending from above.

He looked up. Azazel was falling from the sky, driving the enchanted black knife downward with all his weight.

The raw power of space exploded from the blade.

It cleaved cleanly through Apocalypse's defensive aura, striking directly at the god's thick neck.

Apocalypse reacted with terrifying speed.

He raised his left arm. The surrounding yellow sand condensed instantly into a hyper-dense, armored gauntlet to intercept the blade.

BANG.

The black knife shattered the sand armor, slicing deep into Apocalypse's forearm.

Apocalypse's cellular regeneration was struggling. The wound sealed, but it was visibly slower than before.

The spatial magic of the blade was hindering the healing factor.

Furious, Apocalypse retaliated instantly. He unleashed a brutal backhand, swatting Azazel away like a fly.

Azazel didn't hit the ground. He teleported mid-flight, evading the kinetic shockwave.

He materialized instantly on Apocalypse's right flank, slashing again with the knife.

To the terrified X-Men watching from the dunes, Azazel was a crimson blur.

He appeared and vanished in fractions of a second, leaving a rapid succession of bloody cuts across Apocalypse's gray skin.

But Azazel was losing an internal war.

He knew this fighting style was completely unsustainable. His attacks were shallow. They had minimal, lasting impact on the immortal mutant.

Meanwhile, Azazel was burning through his magical stamina at a terrifying rate.

He had to exert absolute, maximum concentration to maintain the teleportation barrage.

A single microsecond of hesitation would leave him vulnerable to Apocalypse's lethal touch.

How much longer could he physically maintain this cognitive overload?

The X-Jet - Undisclosed Location

While the Red Devil and Apocalypse clashed in the desert, Chris and his brothers were debating a tactical counter-strike.

Kyle, monitoring the battle through the ship's sensors, voiced the grim reality.

"Uncle Azazel's stamina is dropping rapidly," Kyle noted, tapping the console.

"He can't hold out against that kind of raw power for much longer."

Chris scowled, analyzing the data.

"We need a psychic anchor," Chris decided.

"Apocalypse hijacked Professor X. They are still connected on the astral plane. I am going to extract him from there."

Before Kyle could argue, Chris concentrated.

With a sharp crack, Chris apparated directly from the cockpit.

The Safehouse - Cairo Outskirts

Chris materialized inside a dimly lit, dusty room.

Professor Charles Xavier lay slumped in a wheelchair, locked in a deep, semi-conscious coma.

Standing over him, anxiously monitoring his vitals, was Moira MacTaggert.

Chris's sudden appearance startled the CIA agent.

Moira instantly drew her sidearm, leveling the pistol directly at the intruder's chest.

Chris realized he was still wearing his tactical disguise.

He quickly dispelled the illusion, revealing his true, teenage face.

"Mom, it's me," Chris said urgently, holding up his hands.

Moira gasped. She lowered the weapon, her eyes wide with shock and profound relief.

She recognized her son instantly, despite the years.

But the relief was quickly replaced by terror.

"Chris? What are you doing here? This is a warzone!"

"I don't have time to explain," Chris said, brushing past her.

He approached the comatose Professor.

He pulled a smooth, glowing green jade pendant from his pocket.

It was a specialized, exorcism artifact crafted by Ernst. It was designed specifically to sever hostile spiritual tethers and banish parasitic entities.

Chris pressed the cold jade directly against Xavier's forehead.

The Astral Plane

"Roar!"

Within the infinite white void of mental space, a colossal, godlike projection of Apocalypse loomed over Xavier.

Suddenly, the entire astral dimension shook violently.

A blinding, golden dragon materialized out of the ether.

It roared, diving with terrifying speed. The dragon clamped its massive jaws directly onto Apocalypse's astral shoulder.

The beast coiled its long, serpentine body around the ancient mutant, constricting with crushing spiritual force.

"Ah!" Apocalypse screamed, a shrill, echoing sound of genuine psychic agony.

He thrashed wildly, but he could not break the dragon's divine grip.

The mental tether was severed.

The Safehouse

Professor X gasped, his eyes snapping open.

The first thing he saw was a strange young man pulling a glowing jade stone away from his forehead.

"Charles, you're awake!" a familiar, deeply relieved voice cried out.

"It's wonderful."

Xavier turned his head. Moira was standing there, her face glowing with affection and unshed tears.

Chris stood awkwardly to the side.

He knew the complicated, romantic history between his mother and the telepath.

He felt like a massive, unwanted third wheel.

"Okay, look," Chris interrupted, clapping his hands.

"This is not the time for a reunion. There is a literal god outside slaughtering the X-Men."

"If we don't devise a tactical solution right now, they are all going to die."

Moira blushed furiously, instantly snapping back to her professional demeanor.

"Who are you?" Xavier asked, his voice weak but his mind rapidly sharpening.

He realized this boy was the source of the golden dragon.

"Charles, this is my son," Moira explained quickly.

"He is a mutant. He just saved your life."

"Fascinating," Xavier murmured.

"Focus," Chris urged, pointing toward the window.

"Azazel is out there buying us time. He is redlining his abilities. He cannot hold out much longer."

Xavier closed his eyes, extending his telepathic aura to assess the battlefield.

"Apocalypse's raw power is insurmountable," Xavier stated grimly.

"We can only defeat him by consolidating the maximum strength of every mutant present."

Xavier opened his eyes, a deep shadow falling over his face.

"If that fails... we may have to resort to Jean."

Xavier halted mid-sentence. He was terrified to fully unleash the Phoenix Force dormant within Jean Grey.

It was a trump card that posed a significantly greater threat to planetary survival than Apocalypse himself.

"Let's move," Chris said.

He effortlessly hoisted Professor X onto his back.

Moira drew her weapon and followed closely behind.

The Ruins - Cairo

They emerged from the safehouse into the blinding desert sun.

The battle was reaching its brutal climax.

Azazel was panting heavily, his teleportation erratic. He was teetering on the absolute brink of total physical exhaustion.

The young X-Men, Mystique, Nightcrawler, Quicksilver, and Beast, were forced to the sidelines.

They were anxious, desperate, and utterly powerless to intervene.

Apocalypse's shifting, hard-light shields were entirely impenetrable to their attacks.

As Chris carried Xavier into the open, Beast, Jean, and Darwin noticed them immediately.

Their faces lit up with profound relief.

Hank McCoy immediately ran over, taking the Professor from Chris's back.

He eyed the strange teenager suspiciously, clearly considering Chris an unknown variable.

Apocalypse stopped his assault on Azazel.

He turned slowly. He saw Xavier.

Apocalypse realized his astral tether had been forcibly severed. He had expected the telepath to flee.

He was deeply surprised to see Xavier walk willingly onto the battlefield.

Apocalypse's eyes burned with renewed hunger. He abandoned the exhausted Red Devil entirely.

He wanted the telepath's mind. He intended to capture Xavier alive and finalize the consciousness transfer.

Apocalypse strode forward, ignoring the X-Men entirely.

He reached out a massive, gray hand to grab the Professor.

Chris reacted instantly.

He shoved Professor X hard to the left, pushing the man out of the immediate danger zone.

Simultaneously, Chris raised his right hand, his eyes flashing with arcane light.

He unleashed a concentrated burst of repulsion magic directly at the god.

Apocalypse felt the incoming energy. He analyzed it instantly.

It was non-lethal. It posed zero threat to his cellular structure.

He attempted to swat the magic away dismissively.

He grossly miscalculated the spell's kinetic density.

BOOM.

The impact sounded like an artillery shell detonating.

Apocalypse was launched backward, sent flying through the air like a gray meteor.

Chris's magic wasn't designed to kill. It was designed to violently displace mass.

Apocalypse flew backward in a parabolic arc, directly toward the coordinates Chris had pre-arranged.

He flew directly toward Kyle and Clark, who were hidden in the ruins of a collapsed building.

"Go!" Kyle roared over the comms.

The ambush was sprung.

Clark burst from the rubble. He was no longer a boy; he had triggered his biological density, appearing as a massive, towering Kryptonian giant.

Alongside him charged the General, a heavily armored combat synth, and Simba, the massive, three-headed Crup.

Clark's eyes ignited with blinding crimson light.

He fired two beams directly at Apocalypse's descending head.

Simultaneously, the General lunged forward, delivering a devastating, hydraulically powered punch directly into the god's abdomen.

Simba flanked the target, his three massive jaws snapping viciously at Apocalypse's legs from three different angles.

Apocalypse sensed the sudden, overwhelming surge of danger mid-air.

He saw the red beams approaching from his peripheral vision.

He twisted violently, raising his right arm to block the thermal strike.

The heat-vision struck his forearm. The intense, concentrated solar radiation scorched his skin down to the bone.

Apocalypse gritted his teeth against the searing pain.

His super-cellular recovery triggered instantly, the burned flesh bubbling and slowly knitting back together.

But Clark, despite his formidable, god-like potential, was still incredibly young.

Despite Ernst's brutal training regimen on the island, his current power output fell drastically short of a mature Kryptonian.

Apocalypse absorbed the heat.

But the crisis was far from over.

The General's massive fist connected with thunderous momentum.

The punch sank deep into Apocalypse's abdomen. The kinetic shockwave rippled through his internal organs.

Apocalypse doubled over, the air driven from his lungs. He nearly vomited from the sheer, blunt-force trauma.

The onslaught continued flawlessly.

As Apocalypse was launched backward by the punch, Simba struck.

The massive Crup's jaws clamped down brutally on Apocalypse's left foot.

Simba planted his heavy paws and whipped his massive neck.

He tossed the god in a violent, circular arc, hurling Apocalypse through the air once more.

Apocalypse crashed heavily into the side of the massive, central pyramid he had constructed.

The kinetic impact shattered the outer stone casing.

He broke through multiple layers of heavy granite walls, disappearing entirely into the dark interior of the monument.

A distant, ecstatic cheer erupted from the young X-Men.

Cyclops, Nightcrawler, and Jean watched in awe as the invincible god was seemingly crushed by the coordinated ambush.

However, their joy evaporated instantly.

They looked at Chris, Kyle, and Clark.

The boys who had just delivered the devastating combo were not celebrating.

Their faces were grim, devoid of any victory.

Even Professor X stared solemnly at the gaping, dusty hole in the side of the pyramid.

Jean Grey, highly sensitive to psychic and cosmic energy, immediately cast her telepathic net toward the ruins.

She gasped, her hands flying to her mouth in absolute shock.

"He's not dead," Jean whispered, her voice trembling.

She sensed it.

Deep within the dark heart of the pyramid, an absolutely terrifying, rapidly escalating field of pure, apocalyptic energy was building.
