Chapter 43 - Which came first, the chicken or the egg?

The second lesson for new Gryffindor students is History of Magic, which is undoubtedly the most boring course at Hogwarts, bar none.

The History of Magic classroom is located on the second floor of Hogwarts Castle. Gryffindor freshmen have twenty minutes of free time after their first class.

However, since Albert and Professor Flitwick had been talking for a long time, the four of them had no extra time to waste and had to hurry to the History of Magic classroom.

When the four of them hurriedly arrived at the History of Magic classroom, the administrator, Argus Filch, had already come to open the door, since Professor Binns, being a ghost, couldn't open the door for them.

The History of Magic in Gryffindor is taught together with Ravenclaw, and before class, everyone sits in their seats and chats.

Ignoring the twin brothers playing around beside him, Albert took out a box of multi-flavored beans from his pocket, picked out a blue bean and threw it into his mouth. After chewing, he discovered that it was blueberry flavored.

"Good luck," Albert muttered. As he pulled out "A History of Magic" from his bag, he also took out "Selected Nineteenth-Century Spells" and, under the guise of reading, began to browse his spell list.

After completing the Charms course, Albert discovered that he had acquired another skill: Charms theory.

In Albert's memory, this basic skill was very useful, so he immediately upgraded his Spell Theory to level 1. He carefully recalled the extra knowledge of Spell Theory in his head and frowned; upgrading by only one level didn't seem to have much effect.

How should I put it?

Albert had indeed improved his theory of spells, but he felt that it was nothing special. Most of the knowledge was not difficult to understand once it was explained, which was why he had that misconception.

While pondering the knowledge of the Light-Up Charm, Albert took a Flavored Bean and popped it into his mouth, as if he were eating chocolate beans.

The next moment, he covered his mouth with his hand, and a spicy taste wafted into his mouth.

Damn it, the one I just ate was a spicy chili bean, and Albert was really burned by the spiciness. He vowed never to eat that stuff again when he was daydreaming.

"What's wrong with you?" Fred noticed Albert's change.

"Flavorful beans, chili flavor." Albert pointed to the small box on the table; he still hadn't finished the flavorful beans he bought on the train last time.

"Every bite is a great adventure." Fred laughed gleefully, not forgetting to tease Albert by quoting the Multiflavored Beans slogan.

Albert glared at the guy in front of him, then took out a candy from his pocket and popped it into his mouth to relieve the spiciness. He then handed the Beans of Flavor to Fred.

"Be extra careful when eating flavored beans." Fred picked one up, popped it into his mouth, and chewed. "Spinach flavor."

"Mine is strawberry flavored," George announced cheerfully.

"I really like this…" Lee Jordan also came over, picked one up and threw it into his mouth.

"Flavorful Beans, would you like some?" Albert asked, shaking the box at the others.

No sooner had he finished speaking than Li Qiaodan's voice came from the side.

"It tastes like rotten eggs, so disgusting." The black guy's face was contorted in disgust as he spat out the multi-flavored beans he was chewing onto the ground.

A Ravenclaw girl next to him gave Li Jordan a disdainful look.

Noticing the other person's gaze, Li Qiaodan looked a little embarrassed and scratched his head awkwardly.

"Clean it all up." Albert raised his wand, pointed at Lee Jordan's vomit, and casually tossed him a piece of candy.

"I will never eat flavored beans again," Li Jordan vowed.

"You've said that more than once," George teased. "He just ate another one; it was marmalade flavored."

After the incident with Lee Jordan, everyone avoided Albert's little box of Beans; they didn't want to eat anything weird.

"What magic did you just use?" The Ravenclaw girl introduced herself, "My name is Katrina McDougal."

"Hello Katrina, I'm Albert Anderson." Albert popped another piece of chocolate into his mouth, and the burning sensation in his mouth gradually subsided after chewing. "That was a cleansing spell, a very useful magic."

"Most freshmen aren't as good at magic as you, even if they have family members teaching them beforehand. And…" Katrina glanced at the book "Nineteenth Century Spells" that Albert was reading and said, "I dare say the Sorting Hat definitely put you in the wrong house."

"There's nothing wrong with Gryffindor." Albert ignored the other person's words: "Besides… I come from a Muggle family."

"That's impossible. Only wizarding families would have their members teach them magic beforehand." Katrina's expression was somewhat surprised.

"I heard… to enter the Ravenclaw common room, you need to answer a question…" Albert stiffly changed the subject; he didn't want to argue about his bloodline.

"Yes, you need to answer the question about the eagle-shaped bronze door knocker before you can be allowed into the Ravenclaw common room." Katrina looked at Albert with suspicion and asked, "But I'm curious, how do you know this? Many people don't know how to get into the common rooms of other houses."

"I overheard a Ravenc student complaining about not being able to answer questions and being left outside the lounge," Albert casually remarked.

"Oh!" Katrina was still a little suspicious of Albert, after all, the chances of encountering such a thing were slim.

"Don't you guys have a feeling that Albert can chat with anyone for a bit?" George muttered quietly, sitting next to him.

Fred nodded repeatedly, and Lee Jordan also agreed. He then reached into the box and took out a Flavor Bean. This guy actually really liked Flavor Beans.

Albert glared at the three of them, coughed lightly, and asked, "Tell me about the interesting problems you've encountered?"

"Phoenix or fire, which came first?" Katrina chose a question she happened to know the answer to.

"What do you think?" Albert turned to look at the twin brothers.

"I think the phoenix should have come first?" Fred said.

"I think so too?" George immediately agreed.

"Why?" Li Qiaodan asked, puzzled.

"Of course we guessed!" the twins said in unison, their matter-of-fact expressions amusing everyone.

Albert couldn't help but laugh too.

"And you?" Katrina asked again.

"In the Muggle world, there's a similar question," Albert continued, without giving a direct answer, "Which came first, the chicken or the egg?"

"What's the answer?" Katrina asked curiously. She felt she already knew the answer.

"The chicken came first," Albert replied, an answer that was indeed different from what Katrina had expected.

"Why?"

Albert explained, "How could an egg just appear out of nowhere?"

Katrina shook her head and said, "That's not a good enough reason."
