Chapter 226 - War of the Gods (Part One)

The Chaotic Guili Plains

Looking at Guizhong, who could no longer move and was barely holding on, the assembled gods burst into laughter.

They couldn't touch Morax, but surely they could handle a weak little Haagentus?

These gods had always been hostile to Morax, but they were no match for him. So they waited for him to leave with his adepti on campaign, then came to bully his ally.

...

The gods present were:

Trix, the God of Trees

A god who looked like a woman but was actually male. He had long, gray-white hair and long eyelashes framing his closed eyes. If you looked closely, you'd notice his eyes were actually on his palms.

His upper body was bare, and his muscular build combined with his feminine face created a deeply unsettling contrast.

Barulot, the God of Crocodiles

This god appeared in the form of a massive crocodile. He was enormous, with tough, pale purple scales.

Barulot had once been hunted by Morax but had managed to escape with severe wounds through unknown means. He harbored a deep hatred for the Geo Archon and was always looking for ways to get revenge.

Vesfeli, the God of Blazing Fire

A female god in the form of a giant fire fox. Flames covered her entire body, as if she would burn everything to ash. She was beautiful and elegant, but behind it all lay deadly danger.

Herotia, the God of Blood

A cruel male god who loved slaughter. He was a sadist who enjoyed tormenting the weak until they died. Strange black crystals surrounded him—they could form a sturdy shield or a sharp blade to cut down enemies.

Sampurn, the God of Serpents

If anyone was the mastermind behind this attack on Guili Plains, it was Sampurn.

He had nine snake heads and was even larger than the crocodile god. His lower body was like a sauropod's, and the terrifying power radiating from him made it hard for the God of Dust to even breathe.

...

In the midst of this catastrophic chaos and brutal slaughter, even the gentle and light-footed God of Dust couldn't escape her fate.

"Haagentus, this is your destiny. Blame your alliance with that despicable Morax." The nine heads of the serpent god spoke in unison.

"Heh. In the end, you're all just afraid of Morax. A bunch of cowards." Guizhong forced herself to speak through the pain, her voice dripping with sarcasm.

She knew she wouldn't survive today. It was just a pity that she never got to confess her feelings to Morax.

She wondered if, after she was gone, that dense rock of a man would finally realize how she felt.

Hearing those words, the crocodile god was instantly provoked. Anything but that—don't call him afraid of Morax!

"Worthless! I'll kill you!" The crocodile god roared and lunged forward, but Sampurn stopped him.

He stepped back and fell silent.

The serpent god was stronger and the leader of the "anti-Morax" alliance. His word carried weight.

"Sampurn, finish her quickly. We don't want any surprises." The tree god spoke in a neutral voice, soft and gentle.

"Yes, who knows what tricks she might have left." The blazing fire god added.

"Hehe, if you don't want her, give her to me. I want to take my time with her." The blood god grinned greedily, his expression twisted, his smile stretching almost to his ears.

"Save it. If Morax finds out, you'll die a worse death." The fire god scoffed.

Sampurn paid them no mind. They were less allies and more dogs doing his bidding.

He chuckled and spoke arrogantly to Guizhong.

"Haagentus, you're not bad looking. Why not leave Morax and break your alliance with him? Join my side instead."

His eyes were filled with greed, like a beast that had been starving for too long.

Guizhong laughed coldly. Join his side? He just wanted her body.

"Join a group that could fall apart at any moment? Don't make me laugh. You can't even touch a single hair on Morax's head."

She spat out blood and scoffed. She had no interest in this lecherous god.

"You can't even protect your own wife, and now you want a replacement? Is it because you're lonely now that she's gone?"

Guizhong struck where it hurt most. If they were going to kill her, they should just get it over with. She didn't want to listen to their nonsense anymore.

"Refusing a toast only to drink a forfeit." The serpent god gritted his teeth, clearly furious.

He narrowed his eyes, and his nine heads looked at the other four gods, silently communicating something.

In the next moment, all four gods charged straight toward Guizhong.

Seeing this, Guizhong quietly closed her eyes, waiting for death to come.

"Goodbye... Morax. Goodbye... everyone."

Tears fell from her eyes as she whispered.

Memories flooded her mind—the good ones, the happy ones, the ones she would always regret.

She wished she could see Morax one last time.

...

Just when everyone thought the outcome was sealed...

A wave of murderous intent suddenly swept over them, followed by a massive Geo spear.

The spear crashed through the clouds, and in an instant, the sky and earth shifted. The ground trembled violently, as if the end of the world had come.

The spear struck down at the four gods, and everyone present was stunned.

That familiar aura. That familiar pressure. That familiar power.

It was that man.

BOOM!

The spear carved a massive crater into the ground. Dust and debris flew everywhere, blinding everyone.

The four gods had barely escaped with their lives, scrambling away as fast as they could.

Though they weren't badly hurt, their expressions were grim.

All five gods swallowed nervously, staring unblinkingly at the smoke. Their nerves were on edge.

When the smoke cleared, the figure standing where Guizhong had been was someone else.

It was Zhongli. No—Morax.

He wore a hooded cloak, his loose trousers and robes billowing in the wind. Golden patterns adorned his arms, his clothing emphasizing the physique of an emperor.

In his right hand was his spear, the Vortex Vanquisher. His expression was calm as always, but there was an undeniable air of authority about him.

The god of war from the Archon War era had returned to this scorched land.

Morax, the God of Contracts. He looked like he had stepped back in time, looking down on the other gods as if they were beneath him.
