The next day, the genin who'd survived the exam and its consequences had gathered. Raito sat down in the room and they were to be told if they were Chunin or not. Sasuke was brooding, Raito had told Naruto and him about Mitsuro. The boy needed to find a girl real quick otherwise they would never stop making fun of him.
The room they sat in was well furnished with a place to sit for everyone in there. A door was across the room from Raito, Naruto and Sasuke. That very door opened and in stepped Kakashi flanked by two Anbu guards. Naruto found that odd but said nothing as his sensei walked in.
"Alright. Ahem! So as you are well aware, the third Hokage died during the attack on Konoha. It took the village a moment to mourn... However, I am now the fifth Hokage. You are the first to hear this, and the announcement will be made on Wednesday. Additionally, I'm going to read you the list of Chunin from this exam."
Naruto listened in carefully.
"To start, I want to commend all of you for surviving such a deadly and successful attack. You are lucky to be alive after such a thing happened… Now the first Chunin from Dato will be Raito Arashi!"
Naruto cheered and Raito grinned.
"Ahem, quiet down. Additionally, he will be promoted to Jonin. This is because he was endorsed by Shikaku Nara, and the Yokage both. It also comes because he indirectly helped the third to defeat Orochimaru."
The room went silent, eyes all drawn to him. Raito was shocked, but slowly a cocky grin wormed its way onto his face.
"Next to be promoted is Karasu Arashi. He also gains the title of Chunin for his help in defeating an entire platoon and helping Dato's seal expert get to the scene. He is however already aware of his promotion, he's currently on the front line of the war between Dato and Oto."
Naruto cheered again, for Karasu.
"The next is from Konoha. Shikamaru Nara has been promoted to Chunin. For his help in defeating a platoon of sound ninja. This comes off the heels of endorsement by Asuma Sarutobi, Raito Arashi and Shikaku Nara."
Naruto tackled Shikamaru in a hug. The entire room broke out in laughter as the smaller boy tried his best to get out of the hug.
Shikamaru yelled, "Why are you happy about more work?!"
Kakashi shook his head and continued, "The next ones are all from one team. Team 7, consisting of Naruto Uzumaki, Sasuke Uchiha, and Sakura Haruno, will be considered a single Jonin unit. I personally considered this Special Unit, as they are extremely close to Chunin, but require more field experience. As for the rest of you, good luck next time. I'm sure you'll get it; this year's exams displayed good capability."
Naruto jumped in excitement and yipped when the flak jackets were handed out. Naruto saw that Raito's was different from his. He quickly deduced that it was because Raito was from Dato instead of Konoha.
Kakashi spoke up again, "Now, for the final thing. My being Hokage is top secret. Highest clearance, keep your mouths quiet about it."
Everyone nodded. Then everyone left.
