Chapter 38 - Chapter 38 Expensive Fireworks Show

The Iron Monger's armor.

Obadiah's corpse.

And an entire Stark Industries building.

After the battle, Tony removed his Mark II.

Then, using the large Arc Reactor prototype, he turned everything into fireworks.

Tony watched the "fireworks," then glanced at Pepper standing beside him.

There was tenderness in his eyes—along with unmistakable admiration.

Only after tonight did Tony truly realize how important Pepper was to him.

Not just as an assistant in work and life.

Only Qin Xiao stared silently at the burning building.

He frowned and muttered under his breath.

"Do you have any idea how much this cost?!"

Even ignoring the prototype, it was impossible to calculate the loss.

That building alone included the Iron Monger armor and a Mark II suit that had been used only once.

Qin Xiao had originally wanted to take the Mark II with him, but Tony told him it was damaged after use and not worth keeping.

Damn it…

A little repair wouldn't restore it. Even if it was made from gold–titanium alloy—materials on the level of a space station.

Qin Xiao still remembered Tony's expression when he said that.

It was the same look ordinary people had after finishing a drink and tossing the bottle away.

When Qin Xiao was a kid, his grandmother would always keep empty bottles, saying they could be sold for money.

And Qin Xiao's response back then was exactly what Tony had just said.

"Throw it away. It just takes up space, and you won't get much for it anyway."

He never imagined those words would come back to hit him so hard.

Qin Xiao shot Tony a glance.

Tony was standing off in the distance, speaking softly with Pepper.

For a moment, Qin Xiao seriously considered running over and punching that smug bastard.

"Mission complete: Iron Monger eliminated. Reward: 1,000 points."

The arrival of those 1,000 points made Qin Xiao feel much better.

Obadiah was dead.

Tony had become Iron Man.

Iron Man 1 — completed.

Total points earned: 4,000.

They were one step closer to opening a second mall.

At this point, the first-tier shop held little value for Qin Xiao.

There didn't seem to be anything worth spending 3,000 points on.

No—3,000 points.

If exchanged back home, one point equaled one million in currency.

"One hundred million…"

Qin Xiao clasped his hands together, calculating whether he could become a wealthy businessman after returning.

After some thought, three billion was indeed an astronomical sum—

but compared to Tony Stark…

Qin Xiao gave up.

The storyline had ended.

The system notified Qin Xiao that he could return to his own world at any time.

Originally, his plan had been simple: finish the mission, then exchange everything he earned here into resources back home.

Whether through his own strength, advanced technology, or even the system's generous exchange rate—

everything was meant to help him live a better life in that world.

These might sound like stories of crossing dimensions—

but to Qin Xiao, that was real life.

This world, instead, felt more like a copy.

Like a game.

Yet after brushing past that boundary, he had entered the Marvel movie universe.

He met Black Widow.

Joined S.H.I.E.L.D.—though his agent status was a bit vague.

Became friends with Tony Stark.

And now, he felt a much stronger sense of belonging here.

His power had changed dramatically.

Calling him superhuman wouldn't be an exaggeration.

If he stayed in the Marvel universe, what could he do?

If he wasn't careful, he'd be forced to rely only on himself.

After all, no single person could stand against the entire world.

He'd likely be dissected and turned into a research specimen.

Qin Xiao didn't believe that possessing 30% of the Hulk's strength made him invincible.

That was why, from the very beginning, he insisted on buying property—to obtain Tony's AI system.

His goal was clear:

to build his own powerful kingdom in that world, ensuring long-term stability.

Only when your economic power reaches a certain level can you truly live without fear.

The explosion at Stark Industries was no small matter.

Worse still, Tony and the Iron Monger had fought openly on public streets.

Countless people had seen two armored figures fly straight into the sky.

Since today's events couldn't be hidden, they had to make full use of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s resources.

Otherwise, they'd regret ever becoming S.H.I.E.L.D. agents.

The moment the fireworks began, Qin Xiao called Coulson.

After all, cleaning things up was what intelligence agencies did best.

That night, Qin Xiao and Tony simply went home and slept.

Coulson, however, stayed awake.

As one of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s leaders, he controlled online narratives and monitored the number of videos uploaded overnight.

In just one night, he had to fabricate a story convincing enough for the public to believe.

Whether Coulson slept at all was unclear.

But at dawn—

just as the sky began to brighten—

Qin Xiao was jolted awake by a phone call.

"Coulson, you bastard! Have you forgotten what time it is?! Even the chickens on a farm aren't awake yet! Do you know lack of sleep causes hair loss, you damn son of a—"

Qin Xiao roared into the phone.

"Fake… mother…"

Coulson was an honest man.

Qin Xiao's words stunned him so badly he nearly stormed off in rage.

Wasn't this like lecturing a monk about being bald?

You caused this mess.

And now I was the one cleaning it up.

What's wrong with asking you to help at the scene?

Organizationally speaking, you're still my subordinate.

Coulson hadn't slept all night.

He touched his hairline and felt it had receded just a little more.

He struggled desperately to suppress the urge to pull out his gun and shoot Qin Xiao.

To be honest, if this were an ordinary agent, Coulson wouldn't have hesitated to teach him a harsh lesson.

But as Nick Fury's most trusted confidant, he knew about the Avengers Initiative.

And he knew exactly why Fury had recruited Qin Xiao.

So he swallowed his fury, ground his teeth, and said coldly:

"I stayed up all night cleaning up your mess. You can't come help me out? Trainee agent?"

"Haha! Even if you lose a bit more hair, it won't be that noticeable. Relax. I'm still young—I need my sleep!"

Qin Xiao laughed as he interrupted him.

His tone was still rude—

but he was already getting out of bed.

Deceiving the public might be part of their job.

But without his original request, none of last night would have happened.

If Tony Stark had returned normally, S.H.I.E.L.D. would have taken Obadiah away directly.

So why—

why had things gone this far behind the scenes?
