Chapter 16 - Luffy? Ace? Not Even Close!

Before departure, Garp took Raifeng around Foosha Village to greet the villagers—and to make sure everyone understood who Raifeng was.

The villagers were surprised when they heard Garp suddenly had another grandson.

But after the initial shock, they accepted it quickly.

After making the rounds, Raifeng had also gotten familiar with quite a few faces.

For example—

Slap, the village mayor.

And Makino, the gentle, beautiful owner of the bar.

In Raifeng's memory, Makino and "Red-Haired" Shanks weren't just casually acquainted. Whether they were married or not was unclear…

But they didn't seem like just ordinary friends.

Besides them, Raifeng greeted many other villagers as well, leaving a strong first impression throughout the village.

In the end—

Garp led Raifeng toward Mt. Colubo, to a small hill along the mountain path.

A simple house stood there. Clothes hung from a line by the door, fluttering in the breeze like flags.

Knock knock knock!

Garp walked up and pounded on the door.

The sound was loud enough to echo across the area.

The whole door looked like it might get ripped off its hinges—wood chips fell, and it loosened visibly.

BANG!

The door was yanked open.

A stout, middle-aged woman stepped out with a cigarette in her mouth, face fierce. The moment she appeared, she shouted:

"Who the hell is it?! It's early in the morning—are you trying to kill people with noise?!"

Then she saw Garp.

Her anger died instantly, like it had been doused with ice water.

"G-Garp?!"

Her eyes widened. The cigarette fell right out of her mouth.

"Dadan. How've you been?"

Garp smiled.

"You old bastard," Dadan snapped, staring at him suspiciously.

"You show up in Foosha Village out of nowhere… when you're being nice, you're either plotting something or stealing something."

"I've got a bad feeling."

Then she noticed the small, young figure beside him.

Instantly, her entire body went on alert.

"Don't tell me…"

"Garp, you didn't bring another kid here for me to raise, did you?!"

"I'm telling you right now—no. Absolutely not."

"I'm not a babysitter. Go find someone else."

"Take that brat and get out of here!"

She hadn't forgotten what kind of suffering she went through raising Ace and Luffy.

Those two were pure trouble.

"I'm not coming in for a seat?" Garp asked, unfazed.

"Let me be clear—no matter what you say, I'm not raising that kid," Dadan said firmly.

Still, she stepped aside and let them in.

The moment Raifeng entered the house, he felt countless eyes converge on him and Garp.

There were a lot of people inside—around twenty or so.

All of them reacted to Garp's presence with visible shock and fear.

"V-Vice Admiral Garp!"

Panic spread through the room.

"Shut up!" Dadan barked.

Everyone immediately fell silent.

"Garp," Dadan demanded, "where'd you pick this brat up from?"

"Raifeng," Garp laughed, patting Raifeng's head.

"Dragon's son. My grandson."

"…What?!"

Dadan's eyes bulged.

"Since when do you have another grandson?! How did I not hear about this at all?!"

The bandits around them were equally stunned.

Dadan's expression turned even more guarded.

"Don't even think about it. I'm not raising your grandson."

"I don't care who he is."

"I don't care what background he has."

"No."

It was obvious—she had trauma from childcare.

Ace and Luffy had left scars.

"This time I'm not asking you to raise him," Garp said lightly.

"I'm just here to see you."

"And besides…"

"Raifeng isn't like the kids you're imagining."

"You don't have the ability to handle him."

"I'm taking him to Marine Headquarters—Marineford."

"You think I can't handle him?!"

Dadan bristled.

"Did you forget who raised Ace and Luffy?"

"What makes this one different?"

Ace and Luffy had been nightmares, sure—but she'd still managed.

So why would this kid be an exception?

"Different?" Garp said.

"Of course he's different."

"In talent, strength, ability—across the board—"

"You mean his talent's higher than Ace and Luffy?" Dadan asked, surprised.

She knew those two kids were gifted.

So hearing this new kid was even higher… that was hard to picture.

Garp didn't hesitate.

"Higher doesn't even begin to cover it."

"Luffy? Ace?"

"They're not even in the same league as Raifeng."

"To put it simply…"

"They aren't on the same level."

"Do you understand what I'm saying?"

Garp stared at her with unusual seriousness.

Comparing Ace and Luffy to Raifeng?

Garp almost laughed.

There was no comparison.

Raifeng's talent was absurd—beyond common sense.

It wasn't something Ace or Luffy had shown at that age.

If you took seven-year-old Ace and seven-year-old Luffy and stacked them against seven-year-old Raifeng…

Garp was confident enough to say—

Even a hundred of them together wouldn't match Raifeng.

That alone showed how high Garp's expectations and investment had become.

"This kid…"

Dadan finally looked at Raifeng properly.

"Yeah… he does feel different."

Even from the first glance—

Raifeng didn't feel like a normal seven-year-old.

He felt… calm.

Like someone with an adult's mind behind those eyes.

"Raifeng…" Garp laughed loudly. "He's a monster."

Dadan couldn't help agreeing, at least a little.

Some people feel different the moment you meet them.

Raifeng gave her that exact feeling.

Maybe…

Garp wasn't exaggerating.

When she'd raised Ace and Luffy, she'd already thought they were abnormal.

But now—

Looking at Raifeng—

Dadan suddenly felt something strange.

Compared to Ace and Luffy…

This kid really did seem more like a monster.
