Chapter 31 - Detective Kirlia!

After leaving the Qinglin Secret Realm, Oliver bought a high-speed rail ticket to Chang'an City.

From Rong City to Chang'an, the journey would take about four hours if nothing went wrong. With some luck, he might even have time to do a bit of sightseeing there. He had heard of the Terracotta Army for years, but had never actually seen it in person.

About an hour later, a young man wearing a red-and-white baseball cap, a black short-sleeved T-shirt, and a red jacket appeared at Rong City's high-speed rail station. If one looked closely, they would also notice a black fingerless glove on his right hand.

Since transmigrating into this world, this was Oliver's first real trip away from home. Even though he would only be staying in a neighboring province for a week, it was more than enough to leave him feeling excited.

As Oliver walked toward the platform, a woman wearing oversized sunglasses approached from the opposite direction. The glasses were so large that they covered nearly half her face, making it impossible to see her expression clearly.

They brushed past each other.

Out of the corner of his eye, Oliver glanced at her—and instantly felt a chill run down his spine, as if he were being stared at by a predator.

It was an aura.

The aura of someone who had stood at the top for a long time.

Perhaps because of Celebi's blessing, Oliver's perception had been greatly enhanced, allowing him to sense things ordinary people could never notice—something akin to the legendary "sixth sense."

Oliver froze in place. A bead of cold sweat slid down his temple.

He waited for a long moment, but nothing happened.

When he finally turned around again, the woman in sunglasses had already vanished into the crowd.

Only then did Oliver realize that she probably wasn't here for him.

Once he was sure she posed no threat to him, he finally let out a quiet sigh of relief.

Whatever her identity is, it has nothing to do with me, he thought. I'm heading to Chang'an now. No matter what she does in Rong City, it won't reach me.

At the same time—

"Finally here!"

Mu Xue stepped out of Rong City's high-speed rail station, stretching lazily under the sunlight. Her flawless figure instantly drew the attention of countless passersby.

She adjusted the large sunglasses on her face and muttered,

"At this time, he should still be in class at Rong City No. 1 High School. I'll go find him at the school gate after classes end."

Oliver boarded the train and found his seat.

Next to him sat a girl wearing headphones. There was no clichéd seat-swapping incident, and Pokémon were strictly prohibited from being released on high-speed trains.

So Oliver spent most of the journey drifting in and out of sleep. After nearly three hours, the announcement for arrival finally rang out.

Just as Oliver stood up to get off the train, the girl beside him suddenly cried out in panic:

"My wallet is gone!"

People nearby glanced over, but following the usual none of my business mentality, most continued to disembark. At most, they spared the girl a bit of sympathy.

"There were really important things in that wallet…" the girl said weakly, collapsing back into her seat.

An older woman nearby couldn't help but ask,

"Don't panic, dear. Try thinking carefully."

"I put it in this bag," the girl replied anxiously. "I only noticed when we arrived that the zipper was open—and the wallet was gone."

A railway police officer noticed the situation and walked over.

"Do you remember when your zipper was opened?"

"No… I only just realized."

The officer sighed helplessly. He didn't have the authority to detain all passengers for questioning.

"Then you'll have to come with us to the monitoring room to check the footage. But to be honest, the chances of recovering it aren't high. The suspect might already be long gone."

At that moment, a gentle voice suddenly spoke up.

"Excuse me. The train has already arrived, right? May I release my Pokémon? I might have a way to find her wallet."

The girl looked over in surprise—it was the handsome young man sitting beside her.

"Really? You can help? Thank you so much!"

The railway officer hesitated.

"According to regulations, Pokémon still aren't allowed to be released even after arrival."

Seeing how cold that sounded, he paused, then added,

"However, if it's a small Pokémon, you may release it briefly under my supervision. I must monitor the entire process."

"I understand. Then I'll trouble you—Kirlia."

As Oliver spoke, a flash of red light appeared, and an elegant, humanoid Pokémon manifested inside the carriage.

"That's Kirlia?"

"That kid actually has such a rare Pokémon?"

"But… what does this have to do with catching a thief?"

Oliver turned to the girl and said,

"Please describe what your wallet looks like."

"Okay!"

After listening carefully, Kirlia gave Oliver a confident look, then closed its eyes. The small horns on its head began to glow with a faint red light.

According to the knowledge Oliver had obtained from the system, Kirlia possessed the ability to sense the emotions of people and Pokémon around it. And because Oliver's Kirlia had the Telepathy ability, its emotional perception was even more refined.

Very quickly, Kirlia detected several people whose emotions were chaotic and tense.

Invisible psychic waves spread outward.

With a single scan, Kirlia locked onto someone carrying an item that perfectly matched the girl's description.

"Kirlia!"

"Found it?" Oliver asked.

Kirlia nodded. Raising both hands, it released a surge of pale-blue psychic energy.

In the next instant, a man who was desperately squeezing toward the exit was lifted straight into the air.

Floating helplessly, he shouted in panic,

"What's going on?! I'm in a hurry! If you delay me, can you afford the consequences?!"

Kirlia calmly floated him all the way back to the girl, then released its grip.

Bang!

The man hit the floor hard.

"Ow!"

The railway officer stared at him and asked,

"Is it him?"

"The wallet is on him," Oliver replied calmly.

No matter how much the man shouted, cursed, or threatened, the officer stepped forward and searched his belongings. Soon enough, the missing wallet was found.

The moment the wallet was pulled out, the man's face turned deathly pale. He finally stopped struggling and confessed on the spot.
