The moment I stepped off the bus, my legs felt weak.
I didn't even remember walking home—only the ache in my chest and the tears blurring everything in front of me. By the time I pushed the door open, my heart was already breaking all over again.
I ran straight to my room.
The door slammed shut behind me, and that was it.
I fell onto my bed and cried like I had never cried before. Not the quiet kind. The ugly kind. The kind that made my chest hurt and my head spin. My pillow soaked up every tear, every sob, every broken thought.
My best friend.
My boyfriend.
Together.
I trusted them. I loved them. And they destroyed me without hesitation.
Why wasn't I enough?
My phone buzzed beside me. Once. Twice. Again and again.
Dylan calling.
Maggie texting.
I threw the phone across the bed.
Minutes later, the doorbell rang.
My heart dropped to my stomach.
I wiped my face roughly and walked to the door on shaking legs. When I opened it, the sight of them standing there—together—felt like a slap.
Maggie's eyes were red. Dylan looked nervous.
"Ximena, please," Maggie whispered. "We can explain."
I laughed—but there was no humor in it. "Explain what? How you stabbed me in the back?"
"It just happened," Dylan said quickly. "I swear, it didn't mean anything."
That did it.
I felt something inside me snap.
"You don't accidentally betray someone!" I screamed, tears pouring freely now. "You both looked me in the eye every day and lied to me! You smiled at me!"
Maggie reached out. "I'm sorry—"
"DON'T TOUCH ME!" I yelled, stepping back. "You were my best friend! You knew everything about me, and you still did this!"
Her face crumpled, but I didn't care anymore.
I turned to Dylan, my voice shaking with rage. "And you—you don't get to beg now. You should've thought about me before you chose her."
Silence fell between us.
My chest hurt. My heart hurt. But I stood tall.
"Get out," I said, my voice low and broken. "Both of you. I never want to see you again."
They hesitated.
"GET OUT!" I screamed.
They left.
I closed the door slowly and slid down to the floor, hugging my knees to my chest as fresh tears fell.
I was shattered.
But somewhere deep inside the pain, something else was forming.
Strength.
And this heartbreak… was only the beginning.
