Chapter 7 - Chapter 7 – True Growth Only Takes One Day

In Candace's three-story residence, William recounted everything he had witnessed.

When he mentioned that Jiang Yan was only twenty yet already a high-level warrior-general, Candace's pupils shrank sharply.

At twenty, he had barely reached the mid-general level—even with the full support and resources of the Polenas family.

But Jiang Yan?

Twenty years old.

High-level general.

And he had mastered the notoriously difficult Nine-Fold Thunder Blade.

Candace exhaled slowly.

Fine.

Your talent… I, Candace Polenas, acknowledge it.

No wonder Janet favored him.

Losing to such a person wasn't shameful—so long as he could understand where he lost.

"Candace, that guy Jiang Yan is definitely going to be our enemy in the future!" William gritted his teeth. "We need to act now, suppress him while we can!"

"You're too impatient." Candace gave him a cold look.

Janet could immediately recognize Jiang Yan's limitless potential and moved to befriend him. As a candidate heir, she understood what true vision meant.

And Candace?

He certainly wasn't blind.

As the future heir of the Polenas family, every action he took would be scrutinized by the clan. A monster like Jiang Yan could only be befriended—cultivated—not antagonized. Such an ally would bring unimaginable benefits in future struggles for inheritance.

This world still bowed to strength.

"Don't provoke Jiang Yan again," Candace said calmly. "We need to build a good relationship with him."

"What?! You still want to get close to him?" William's eyes bulged.

He's literally taking Janet away from you!

"Just remember what I said," Candace replied flatly.

William shrank his neck. Candace's decisions usually had deep reasoning behind them.

Then—

Buzz! Buzz!

Both their communicators vibrated.

They opened the message.

It was a video.

And William froze.

"W-What?! This has to be AI-generated! No way this is real!"

The footage showed Janet taking Jiang Yan into her residence—affectionately holding his arm like a couple.

"You can leave," Candace said darkly. "I need some time alone."

"O-Okay…"

William fled immediately. Facing Candace like this was terrifying.

Candace stared at the video, emotions tangled—anger, frustration, unwillingness, and even a jealousy he didn't want to acknowledge.

Chased her for half a year… and someone takes her home on day one?

Unacceptable for someone with his pride.

"Find an opportunity," Candace muttered, eyes cold. "I want a proper duel with him."

Janet's Residence – Training Room

Janet's personal living quarters were a standard three-story unit—luxurious, private, and equipped with a full training arena.

Inside the cultivation room, she wielded her battle blade, relentlessly attacking Jiang Yan.

Jiang Yan struggled to keep up, dodging with great difficulty. When he couldn't evade, he had to draw a blade to defend.

Janet, a high-level general with two years of genius-camp training and tutelage under the Moon Witch Jiang Fang (an intermediate God-of-War swordmaster), overwhelmed him in actual combat.

But this was exactly what Jiang Yan needed.

He was training Thunder Flash, the movement technique paired with the Nine-Fold Thunder Knife.

And after tomorrow's acceptance assessment, he planned to head straight for City 003.

There, he intended to intervene—to prevent Luo Feng from killing Li Wei.

If Li Wei survived, Venina wouldn't die, and the entire chain of tragic events could be changed.

But to enter such a deadly city, he needed strength—real strength.

Ten minutes later—

A translucent line of text appeared before his eyes.

[Ding! You diligently cultivate the Nine-Fold Thunder Blade's movement technique "Thunder Flash."

Critical hit triggered!

You receive a hundredfold reward!]

[Thunder Flash: Minor Accomplishment (1/100)]

[Body Technique: Perfection (1/100)]

Jiang Yan's eyes lit up.

Finally—the critical strike triggered!

And with Thunder Flash reaching Minor Accomplishment, his body technique soared straight into the third realm—Perfection.

With a perfected body technique, he could easily pass the B-rank assessment.

Countless insights surged into his mind like enlightenment.

"Hah… So that's how it is."

Janet noticed his sudden smile mid-battle.

But she didn't stop her attacks—she knew he was training movement. If she held back, it wouldn't help him.

Yet now—

Jiang Yan shifted half a step and effortlessly dodged her next slash.

"Jiang Yan… did you break through?!" Janet stared in disbelief.

"Mm. Just broke into the perfect realm."

"Just broke into it?!"

Janet felt like swearing.

Most people needed dozens of near-death battles for such a breakthrough—

You duel with me for ten minutes and you break through?!

Monster!

But after the shock came happiness.

Her intuition was right—Jiang Yan was the type of genius she'd always dreamed of finding.

"Then continue. I'm going to get serious now," Jiang Yan said, smiling.

"Good!"

Janet's aura sharpened instantly as she lunged forward.

One Hour Later

Just when Jiang Yan felt he couldn't hold on—

[You diligently cultivate the First Thunder Knife.

Critical hit triggered!

Tenfold reward obtained!]

[Nine-Fold Thunder Knife – First Layer: 81/100]

[Knife Technique: Basic 88/100]

Powerful insights flooded him again.

"That's enough for today."

Jiang Yan stopped Janet's blade and called to end the session.

After an hour of near-collapse training, the tenfold reward was already enormous.

He checked his panel:

[Realm: High-Level General – 5/100]

[Body Technique: Perfect – 1/100]

[Thunder Flash: Minor – 1/100]

[Knife Technique: Basic – 88/100]

[Nine-Fold Thunder Knife: 81/100]

[Nine-Fold Hunyuan: Minor – 1/100]

A satisfying harvest.

Janet, drenched in sweat, was breathing heavily. Even if he hadn't stopped, she would have.

"Janet, thank you for sparring with me tonight." Jiang Yan said sincerely.

If not for her, he wouldn't have triggered today's double breakthroughs.

Janet stepped closer, eyes soft, voice slightly teasing.

"Then how… are you planning to thank me?"

She had already made up her mind.

She had confirmed Jiang Yan's talent—confirmed he was the one she'd been waiting for.

So she no longer hesitated.

Jiang Yan looked into her silky gaze.

He felt it clearly.

It was time for him to truly grow up.

And sometimes…

real growth only takes one night.
