Chapter 39 - Chapter 38

Scene: Roy's Mansion — The Goddesses' Tea Break

Roy stepped through the dimensional gate into his mansion, dropping his coat on the nearest chair. The place was lively.

Grayfia served tea with elegant precision. Velgrynd and Velzard were arguing over who cheated in Mario Kart. Scathach was calmly massacring everyone in a fighting game using only two buttons. Sif and Amora were debating battle techniques (and occasionally glaring at each other). Lorelei was humming, reading a magazine. Hela lounged on a sofa with a glass of wine, looking effortlessly regal. Death and Infinity sat together, chatting like two cosmic sisters on vacation.

Roy smiled. Home.

Then—

A soft golden pulse of Asgardian magic swept through the room. Everyone paused.

A holographic projection formed, woven from Frigga's magic. The Queen Mother of Asgard smiled warmly.

"Hello, my son."

Roy bowed his head. "Mother."

Hela blinked, then straightened. "Mother."

Frigga's gentle eyes softened. "Hela, dear… how have you been?"

"I… am well," Hela said, trying to sound stoic.

But Frigga saw everything.

Especially the way Hela's gaze drifted toward Roy.

Frigga's smile turned mischievous.

"Oh? You seem very well. Is it perhaps due to a certain someone?"

Hela froze.

The other girls looked at Hela.

Hela's face—THE Goddess of Death's face—turned bright red.

Grayfia, Velzard, Velgrynd, Scathach, Sif, Amora, Lorelei, Death, Infinity, and Roy…

all burst out laughing.

Hela covered her face.

"Mother!"

Roy put an arm around her shoulders, still laughing.

"She's adorable when she's embarrassed."

Hela glared at him.

And then leaned against him anyway.

Mjolnir in New Mexico

The laughter settled. Roy opened his phone, showing a picture from the news.

Tony's photo of Mjølnir stuck in the desert.

Roy sighed dramatically.

"Mother… what did that muscle-headed idiot do this time?"

Frigga pinched the bridge of her nose—the universal sign of "my family is too stressful."

"Thor," she began, "almost started a war with the Frost Giants."

Several of the girls choked on their tea.

Frigga continued, sounding exhausted:

"He marched into Jotunheim like a child. Odin had to intervene to prevent total war. After the argument… Odin sealed Thor's powers and banished him to Midgard."

There was a beat of silence.

Then Roy and Hela laughed in perfect sync.

Frigga paused, raising an eyebrow.

"…And what, may I ask, is so funny?"

Roy shrugged.

"It's Thor. What did you expect?"

Hela nodded. "He thinks with his muscles, Mother."

The girls nodded in agreement.

Frigga sighed again—tired, fond, and exasperated.

"Why can't your brothers be more like you…?"

Roy pretended to polish his nails.

"They try, Mother. They fail. But they try."

Reassurance

Frigga's expression softened.

"Keep an eye on things in Midgard, my son."

Roy nodded.

"If the situation becomes dangerous, we'll step in."

Hela added, in a regal tone,

"Asgard will not fall while Roy lives. His army alone could end a realm."

Velzard smirked.

"Or ten."

Frigga visibly relaxed. She trusted Roy and his cosmic-strength companions more than Odin's temper or Thor's impulsiveness.

"Thank you. All of you."

Her image flickered gently.

"I must go. Odin is… brooding."

"Again?" Roy asked.

"Yes."

A pause.

"It has been three hours."

The girls giggled.

Roy facepalmed.

The hologram faded, leaving warmth behind.
