Chapter 7 - Criminals

[Spring, Year 312]

Mrs. Revs cooked Yuki's favorite tomato soup and Xavier's favorite fried salmon while Mr. Revs and Xavier prepared the birthday cake for Yuki.

Xavier was going to ask Yuki to make a wish until a dozen knights suddenly marched through the now broken door, surrounding the four at the dinner table. Once surrounded, they each rested their right hand on the handle of their blade, ready to unsheathe them at any time. Their actions were as if they were treating criminals.

Yuki clenched her fist under the table, hiding her hands. She focused on gathering energy around her right fist, which also held a fork.

"What's going on?" Mr. Revs stepped up, raising a hand to shield his family.

"Your majesty's order. You're the only ones near the crime scene. With two children too."

One of the knights threw two pairs of frozen shoes on the floor.

Yuki stared at the pairs of shoes, regretting ever leaving them there in the first place. She did not understand why the death of such a dangerous creature would create problems. Is it because of the gem…?

When they came back from a life and death encounter with the monster, Yuki used the gem on herself already. Her strength improved, but bad people were now on their tails. What can she do now?

"What crime scene? They didn't commit any crimes. These children are innocent!" Mrs. Revs cried.

"What crime? What's wrong with protecting ourselves?!!" Xavier yelled, his body trembling from fear.

He was scared, yes, but even so, he was more angry at the situation they were in. He despised knights with a passion, especially since his parents were knights back in the day. They quit and ran away after realizing how corrupt and cruel everything was. What were they protecting? They were merely discardable dogs royalty uses.

"Silence! You know what you've done. Once you two are in prison, you'll confess everything."

"Two?" Yuki muttered, a sudden realization hitting her. His words implied that the knights would not spar the married couple. Just what did Mr. and Mrs. Revs do for them to get a death sentence?

'It doesn't matter,' Yuki thought, clenching her right hand hard.

The knight commander raised his arm, making a 'go ahead' gesture.

Immediately taking action, two knights unsealthed their swords at Mr. and Mrs. Revs as Yuki jumped on the table and swiftly grabbed her bowl of steaming hot soup with her left hand, her fist clenched hard on her right. She smashed the glass bowl into one of the knights' faces and sucker punched the other on their arm, the impact of her punch somehow making the knights' armor warp inward, in the shape of her fist.

The sharp deformed metal suffocated the knight. The other knight suffered from face burns. The two grunted in pain, dropping their swords to cover their wounds.

"What are the rest of you doing?! Subdue her and kill the adults!!!" The knight commander roared, his anger shooting through the roof.

All the knights immediately unsheathed their swords, four surrounding Yuki, two surrounding Mr. Revs, two surrounding Mrs. Revs, and one lifting Xavier from the back with ease, his legs flailing around weakly from fear.

The knights were probably more than twice Yuki's size, but Yuki did not care. She lunged at the knight on her right, going for his legs.

As Yuki resisted the knights, Mr. and Mrs. Revs defended themselves with kitchen knives. Chaos erupted within the tiny hut, which did not have the same warmth as before. The cold wind sneaked inside from the front door, broken glass and toppled over furniture everywhere.

"STOPP!!!!!!" The knight commander yelled, pointing his sword at the side of Xavier's neck.

Screams came from all directions as the sound of the weapons clashing together abruptly stopped. After stabbing the legs of two more knights, Yuki paused. She ignored the four knights on the ground, her gaze moving towards Xavier.

"Let him go!!" Mr. Revs yelled, gritting his teeth in rage.

"Drop the weapons, NOW." The knight commander moved his blade closer, close enough for a stream of blood to stain the edge of his sword, blood dripping down Xavier's neck.

"Tch." Yuki dropped her fork, which fell to the floor with a clang. She dispersed her energy, the faint golden light disappearing almost immediately.

Mr. and Mrs. Revs did the same. The moment they did, multiple swords pierced through their stomachs, arms, and hearts, causing the two to cough out blood.

"My lovely son and daughter." Mr. Revs muttered, the light in his eyes fading.

"L-Live on…" Mrs. Revs said her last breath as the two collapsed together, a large pool of blood staining the carpeted floor.

"NOOOOO, MOM, DAD!" Xavier wailed.

The knights wiped their dirtied swords on the once white tablecloth, sheathing their blades.

Tears dripped down Yuki's face. Unlike Xavier's loud sobs, Yuki cried quietly. She dropped on her knees in defeat, horrified at the sight before her.

The knights chained Yuki's and Xavier's hands and feet, then locked a neck collar on the two. They set the wooden hut ablaze, taking the two away from the dead, cold silence coming from within the hut that once resided a warm, loving family of four.
