Chapter 6 - Chapter 6 - Cleaning 1

Finally, my hard-earned day off had arrived—only to be cruelly transformed into " Cleaning Day."

I stayed glued to my bed, watching my mother and grandmother through half-lidded eyes. They had already finished breakfast and were deep into the "battlefield" of dust and clutter.

How could they have this much energy so early in the morning? It was a mystery.

"I think you're becoming lazier by the day,"

. "Who even sleeps this late anymore?"

I groaned into my pillow. It's my day off; of course I'm sleeping late. That's practically what days off were invented for. But I knew better than to say that out loud. I didn't feel like being the target of a morning lecture.Moving at the speed of a sloth, I finally dragged myself into the shower. After a slow breakfast and some much-needed

"me-time,"

I reluctantly joined the fray.

"It's a complete mess,"

I muttered, looking at the chaos.

"Can't we just clean the surfaces and leave the clothes for later?"

"No, let's just get it done today," my mom replied, though she quickly broke eye contact.

"That way, we won't have to worry about it next time."

The original plan was just basic cleaning, but they had already started hauling out the heavy winter gear. I looked at the massive pile of wool and down; it was concerning. Sure, it was winter, but it wasn't nearly cold enough for these "arctic expedition" coats yet.

"Fine. Let's just get over with this too,"

I sighed, trying to convince myself.

"At least I won't have to do it again another day."

After several hours of back-breaking folding and sorting, my mom and grandmother decided to take a break and went out to buy some fresh fruit for our usual afternoon snack. That left me alone with the final boss: a mountain of work still waiting for me in the storage room.
