Chapter 7 - Chapter 7 - The Classic Three-Option Choice

"Climbing up six floors on a window ledge?" The two Judgment officers exchanged a look and smiled wryly. "Alright, since you didn't take the normal route upstairs, you can't provide any clues about the killer."

"The killer has been found?" Torami Toumi instantly jumped up, her gaze fierce.

"Calm down. We just have suspects, and we're still gathering evidence."

Seeing that Torami Toumi was about to become emotional again, the Judgment officer quickly changed the subject: "Also, regarding the dispute between you and Lin Wuming-kun..."

Torami Toumi was indeed distracted. She stood at attention obediently, adopting a posture of admitting fault and awaiting criticism.

"After our investigation, and based on the testimony of both you and Lin Wuming-kun, it was indeed a misunderstanding—fortunately, no one suffered any severe consequences. Furthermore, Lin Wuming-kun has decided not to press charges, so all you need to do is attend a safety awareness class this weekend."

This outcome was lighter than expected but not entirely outside of her anticipation. Torami Toumi had prepared herself and accepted the decision calmly.

She was more concerned about: "You've already spoken to Lin Wuming? Has his treatment finished?"

She glanced at the nearby emergency room, realizing she had been so lost in thought that she hadn't noticed the two officers had already gone in and come out.

"Don't worry, Lin Wuming-kun's injuries aren't serious..." the officer said somewhat awkwardly. "You exercised great restraint. In comparison, his secondary fractures to his left leg and right hand are more problematic."

Nodding in relief, Torami Toumi pressed on: "What about Sakurai-sensei? How is her condition?"

"You'll need to ask the doctors for the specifics," the officer said. "The information we have is that she is out of life-threatening danger, but the rescue was ultimately delayed slightly, so she probably won't wake up for a while."

This was also the source of the officers' distress. If the victim could regain consciousness, identifying the killer would be much simpler.

Upon hearing Dr. Sakurai's condition, Torami Toumi sighed in relief, but a fierce intent to kill resurfaced on her young face.

"Who exactly hurt Sakurai-sensei!"

A few minutes later, in a conference room specifically cleared out in the hospital, everyone involved in the hospital attack incident was gathered.

Judgment officers in dark blue uniforms were standing by, looking at the three identified suspects with complex expressions.

Just then, Torami Toumi and the two officers pushed the door open and entered.

Seeing the girl, the officers present all looked helpless.

Facing the questioning glances from their colleagues, the two officers had to grit their teeth and explain: "Torami is related to the incident, after all, so she has a right to know..."

"Make sure you watch her, and don't let her harm the suspects," said a female officer positioned at the center of the room.

All the officers familiar with Torami Toumi were worried about one thing: once the killer's identity was confirmed, given the girl's personality and ability, she might very well seek blood vengeance and stab the culprit in public.

"I will remain restrained," Torami Toumi said, fully aware that the officer was warning her.

She had indeed prepared herself to remain calm and was only allowed to attend the meeting after repeated assurances.

Torami Toumi looked around the room. Aside from herself and Lin Wuming, everyone else in the conference room was an adult. This environment made her feel a little tense.

Although the Judgment officers in Academy City were trustworthy, some of them possessed the kind of imposing aura found in elite soldiers, which only made Torami Toumi more anxious and uneasy.

Frowning, she instinctively leaned closer to Lin Wuming, who was her age.

Lin Wuming's injuries were not life-threatening, but they were certainly not light. Though not fatal, they shouldn't have allowed him to be bouncing around as he was now.

Under normal circumstances, Lin Wuming's injuries would require him to lie motionless in bed and rest.

Lin Wuming's lack of self-awareness and even his good feeling about his condition were entirely due to the convenient utility of his Level 3 Psychic Power.

In just a single day, Lin Wuming had managed to skillfully master his superpower and apply it flexibly to his daily life. Consequently, he barely felt any inconvenience.

This was why he was able to bounce back and attend this "judgment meeting" as soon as his treatment was finished.

Regarding the hospital attack, Lin Wuming had a subtle feeling—the killer was actually after him, and Dr. Sakurai was just an unfortunate casualty.

After all, Lin Wuming had just escaped from an illegal research facility whose name he couldn't even remember. Although he didn't retain much memory from before, the illegal institution clearly wouldn't risk exposure, so sending an assassin to silence him was not surprising.

His subsequent conversation with the Judgment officers further confirmed this—the assassination attempt happened to occur during a brief window right before the bodyguards assigned by the Judgment forces were due to arrive.

If it had been any later, this wouldn't have happened.

Lin Wuming subjectively wanted to "lie flat" and live a peaceful, stable new life, free from conflict. However, if there was a group of people constantly plotting to kill him and silence him, even lying flat wouldn't be peaceful!

In his two lives spanning over thirty years, this was the first time Lin Wuming had been involved in a murder case, so he observed the conference room with an air of watching a spectacle.

Until he noticed Torami Toumi quietly approaching him.

The ferociousness of the girl during their battle less than two hours ago was still vividly imprinted on his mind.

Seeing her, Lin Wuming felt a throbbing pain from the seven stab wounds in his chest.

Despite knowing it was unlikely, Lin Wuming couldn't help but worry that the girl would remain silent and stab him a few more times.

Fortunately, before Torami Toumi could get any closer, the meeting finally began.

The investigating officer displayed surveillance footage on a large screen.

"The killer clearly prepared for this murder," the officer introduced. "There is naturally little foot traffic on the sixth and fifth floors of the inpatient wing, and the killer disabled all surveillance cameras on those two floors before acting. Therefore, the clues we can gather through this channel are limited."

However, this also narrowed the range of suspects—disabling the cameras for an entire floor would have to be the work of an internal staff member, or a professional like a Judgment officer.

This was one of the factors used to identify the three suspects now.

"Based on surveillance from other floors," the officer continued, "we can generally determine that the three of you entered this area during the time of the incident, making you the primary suspects."

Among the three suspects, two were doctors in white coats, and the third was surprisingly the female Judgment officer who had spoken first!

However, the female officer looked perfectly composed, showing no discomfort about being a suspect, and calmly prepared to be questioned.

"Well, well, the classic three-option choice. This is an easy one," Lin Wuming commented.
