Chapter 28 - Chapter 28 - Interrogation

Lin Wuming hadn't expected that he would be targeted by a sniper.

He was about to use his "armor stacking" technique again to neutralize this sniper round, but Lin Wuming suddenly realized that the sniper was too far away; he lacked effective means of counterattack.

And if he didn't deal with the sniper, then everything he tried to do next would be obstructed.

So Lin Wuming changed his strategy. Enduring the immense strain that felt like his body was being torn apart, he used his psychic ability in the "Bullet Time" state to forcibly move his body, minimally shifting out of the bullet's path.

Next, he used his psychic power to grab the tomato from the paper bag he was holding, moving the mass of tomato pulp, which had been disintegrated by the high-speed movement, directly into the bullet's necessary trajectory.

Finally, he used his psychic ability to tip over his wheelchair, flipping himself backward...

In normal time flow, one could see a burst of red liquid where Lin Wuming's body had been, and then the entire wheelchair was flipped over by a huge force.

Because the wheelchair was suddenly overturned while moving at high speed, the huge inertia flung Lin Wuming out of the chair, sending him rolling a good distance on the ground, making him look quite disheveled.

However, from the sniper's perspective on the distant building, they would find that Lin Wuming ultimately rolled under a flowerbed, completely blocking the sniper's line of sight and trajectory.

Lin Wuming still couldn't determine the sniper's exact location in the building, but he could guarantee that no position in that building could see him hiding under the flowerbed.

He was temporarily safe. The evidence was that the "Bullet Time" state deactivated, and the flow of time around him returned to normal.

Lin Wuming pulled out his phone and checked; there was still no signal.

In his helplessness, he could only lie on the ground and observe his surroundings.

Looking at the overturned wheelchair and the scattered ingredients nearby, Lin Wuming felt a pang of regret—his first shopping trip had ended in such a disaster. It was a shame about those ingredients and seasonings.

"What should I do next?" Pressed tightly against the corner of the flowerbed, Lin Wuming began to ponder his next move.

Perhaps because he had repeatedly validated the reliability of "Bullet Time," or perhaps he was simply numb after the continuous attacks today, Lin Wuming, at this moment, was devoid of fear and regret.

—Even a sniper couldn't take me out. What is there to be afraid of?

If that guy dared to get any closer...

Just then, hurried footsteps approached from nearby.

Lin Wuming's alert level instantly spiked.

Then he saw a man in blue work clothes rushing over. Judging by the logo on his uniform, he appeared to be a cable maintenance worker.

Of course, this identity was also a disguise.

The man in blue work clothes arrived on the scene. He wasn't surprised by the mess but immediately locked onto Lin Wuming lying in the corner.

Lin Wuming happened to turn his head, and their gazes met.

"He's not dead..." Without hesitation, the man drew a taser gun and pulled the trigger, aiming at the target.

The capture-specific taser dart hit an invisible barrier in mid-flight and surprisingly bounced back, embedding itself in the man's own hand.

The man collapsed, convulsing before he could even let out a scream.

Bang!

There was a slight tremor from the flowerbed behind Lin Wuming.

The distant sniper also realized that Lin Wuming was still alive and continued the attack.

Lin Wuming glanced at the bullet hole a short distance away—the sniper clearly didn't know his exact location, and this shot missed by too much, failing to even trigger "Bullet Time."

But precisely because of this, it made Lin Wuming genuinely feel the terror of being shot at by a bullet.

Although "Bullet Time" served as a safeguard, honestly, Lin Wuming still couldn't fully trust this somewhat inexplicable passive ability—because it was outside his control, like a jump scare box. No one knew when it would be triggered...

But then again, if "Bullet Time" were an active ability controlled by him, Lin Wuming would probably be the first to object.

After all, he didn't have precognition. Who would know when danger would strike...

So, it was best not to overthink this, as there was no perfect, entirely satisfactory option.

"No, rather than dwelling on this..." Lin Wuming muttered to himself. "Ultimately, if I hadn't run into all this trouble, I wouldn't need to care whether 'Bullet Time' was active or passive, would I?"

If he could choose, Lin Wuming would rather this powerful ability never had a reason to be used.

Not like now, triggering twice in one day!

How long had it been since he transmigrated? He had already faced four life-threatening crises!

"Damn it, I only wanted to lie flat and relax!" Lin Wuming clicked his tongue.

Noticing that the man stunned by the taser gun was showing signs of waking up, Lin Wuming simply grabbed him and slapped him a few times to wake him up.

"Don't turn around," Lin Wuming restrained the enemy, making him sit on the ground with his back to him, and asked, "How many more of you are there? Who sent you to kill me?"

The man remained silent.

Lin Wuming sighed internally, a flash of ruthlessness crossing his eyes.

Crack!

"Aaaah!!!" The man finally couldn't hold back his cries of agony.

His left arm was broken, but the rest of his body was firmly immobilized by the psychic power, unable to move, so he could only spasm slightly.

"You have four more chances," Lin Wuming said, his face stern. "Say something."

"We... we don't intend to kill you!" The man finally spoke. "Our mission is to capture you, alive."

"Is that sniper one of yours?" Lin Wuming asked. Judging by the bullet's trajectory earlier, it was clearly aimed to kill him.

"He..." The man hurriedly explained, "Because the threat you showed was too great, we made a slight compromise. The employer should understand, right..."

"Who is the employer?" Lin Wuming pressed.

"You..." The man sounded surprised. "Don't you know? It's the research institute you used to be at."

—How would I know... the Judgment force hasn't even found out yet.

Lin Wuming's heart stirred. This might be the most crucial piece of information.

"Wait!" Lin Wuming used his psychic power to drag him under the flowerbed as well. "Tell me, what exactly is the content of your mission?"

"You... wait, the intelligence said you have amnesia?" It seemed to only just now occur to him, and the man realized the mistake he had made.

The man had revealed a key piece of information—that he knew about the employer's research institute.

For Lin Wuming, who had amnesia, this was important.
