They were eating their food slowly. Hearing loud howls from far away and a few from other directions some closer than others. "You heard that." Gabriel asked, looking at Charles.
"Yeah it does not help that I have been seeing wolves too." Charles said as Gabriel nodded.
"You, Duke and I have all seen wolves that seemed to be following us." Gabriel said darkly. Looking at the forest seeing three wolves they all disappeared the next moment.
"It makes my skin crawl. I don't like being watched." Charles said with a small frown.
"Yet you don't care when it is anyone of your family members." I muttered, Charles looked at me with confusion.
"What did you say?" Charles asked me if he did not hear what I said.
"Nothing important." I lied to Charles. It did not feel good to lie to him. Like something was clawing at my chest. A dread that I never felt before.
"Well I have the feeling food is getting low us and the wolves both have similar prey items meaning we are going to have to start directly competing with them." Charles said.
"Let's hope it does not come to that." Gabriel said with a little bit of sadness in his voice.
"You seemed worried about the wolves?" Argent asked, sitting down next to Charles. I finally noticed one of his eyes was a deep blue gray, the other was a hot pink, what an oddball. His hair also had brown hair like Charles with the tips of it being a lime green. Charles had a small smile.
"Hey Argent, how are you doing?" Charles asked. Looking at him with a smile on his face.
"I am doing good." Argent said calmly with a small smile on his face.
"Okay then that is good news." Charles said he matched the small smile with one of his own defense mechanisms to mimic others to not get hurt.
"I wonder what you were practicing?" Argent asked as Charles' eyes showed rage and sorrow.
"You don't need to know that." Charles said his tone was flat and dead. Leveling a glare at Argent. Argent flinched as a single bead of sweat rolled down his face.
"Okay then." Argent said with some worry in his voice. With a small nod.
"Well this was fun." Charles said setting down the bowl it was completely licked clean.
"Goodbye." Gabriel said with a wave. As Charles starts to walk deeper in the forest. Taking a few deep breaths in and out. As I flap into the air.
"Noble Phantasm." Charles said as a blob of translucent Chaos Energy it lasted two seconds a half and a tiny bit longer than last time. Then a huge explosion launched him through the air smashing through the tree. As he rolled on the snowy ground he was lightly injured. Breathing heavy.
"You okay?" I asked, looking down at his limp form. Please be okay.
"I am fine." Charles said. Coughing up some liquid he was breathing heavily.
"You don't seem fine." I said looking at him with worry. He was once again still breathing in pain.
"Starlight: Heal." Charles said. As his body healed quickly.
"Why did you heal yourself?" I asked.
"See I am fine." Charles said ignoring the question that I stated.
"Why did you ignore the question?" I questioned looking at him.
"See I am fine." Charles said once again he ignored the question.
"Why do I feel like this is going to be your response for the next bit." I said.
"See I am fine." Charles said like a broken record.
"You must have had brain damage." I said with a long sigh.
"I already had that." Charles said quickly.
"What?" I asked in confusion.
"What?" Charles mimicked. As I blinded then he copied the motion.
"What?" I said again.
"What?" Charles said again.
"You're a dumbass." I muttered under my breath. He was getting on my nerves.
"Agreed." Charles said quickly after me. I barely had time to register one word.
"You okay?" Gabriel asked, looking worried.
"See I am fine." Charles said please don't get started on this again.
"Please don't get started on this again." I said with disappointment in my voice.
"Get started on what?" Charles asked, looking confused with his head tilted.
"You can't be gaslighting me." I said with great disappointment refilling my voice.
"What gaslighting?" Charles questioned with a small smile.
"You can't be doing this." I said with a long sigh. Charles started to laugh. Gabriel was also chuckling.
"Wanna go hunting?" Gabriel said with a smile on his face.
"Sure why the hell not." Charles got up with a smile on his face.
"Let's get going." Gabriel said with a huge smile. They started walking into the forest. I landed on Charles' shoulder. Neko then leaped up onto Gabriel's shoulder. Her purring was notable.
"What should we hunt?" Charles said with a smile dancing on his lips.
"Maybe some Ice Tusk." Gabriel said with a chuckle on his face.
"What an Ice Tusk?" Charles asked, looking at Gabriel with unveiled wonder.
"A massive elephant well closer to a mammoth will have huge tusks. They are uncommon and few and far in between." Gabriel explained to Charles. Charles nodded with a smile.
"So we might not be able to find one." Charles said with a smile.
"Yeah but you should know your luck if you're going to be attacked by a huge wolf pack." Gabriel chuckles at it. Charles let out a long sigh.
"If it is then I will give you my right eye." Charles said as both of them broke out laughing.
"That's a good one." Gabriel said both of them were smiling with a face splitting smile. They both seemed to have a great day.
"I wonder what the others are doing?" Charles asked, looking at the sky.
"What do you mean to the people back at camp?" Gabriel asked.
"No, my two idiots." Charles said whisperfully. Shaking his head in joyous smile.
"Your two idiots?" Gabriel asked with a smile. Looking a tad bit confused.
"Arthur Wheatson and William Godfrey." Charles smiled looking down at the ground shaking his head. Hearing a rumbling in the ground. Stomping and a trumpeting sound.
"What the hell is that?" Gabriel asked. As we ran to see a massive Ice Tusk around it was a lake of blood and corpses. Charles ripped out his right eye and put it in the hand of Gabriel.
"Starlight: Heal." Charles said as he closed his right eye. It fully heals and he blinks a few times. "Good it works, that's good news." Charles said with a small smile on his face.
"What was that for?" Gabriel said with shock written on his face. Looking at the right eye that he had in his hand. He looked at the eye then looked at Charles.
"I promised, did I not?" Charles questioned, looking at letting out a small sigh.
"Yeah but I did not think that you would give me your eye." Gabriel still said with shock in his face. The Ice tusk stomped down on the ground. Crimson spikes flowed out in all directions. Killed at least a dozen more wolves. All of the wolves seemed starving.
"Duck!" Charles yelled as Charles pushed himself and Gabriel. The crimson spikes flew over their heads. They were breathing with a lot of shock. As it turned back into a liquid plopping down onto our face.
"That was close." Gabriel said. Both of them were covered in wolf blood.
"Those wolves must be starving." Charles said as three more wolves jumped on it back. As they were thrown over there head slamming them into the trees behind us snapping them in two.
"What do you mean by that?" Gabriel questioned looking at the gory act of nature.
"They are literally throwing themselves at this behemoth without any care in the world." Charles said with a small frown.
"So what?" Neko asked.
"That means one of two things: they are really dumb or they are starving and this is their last chance." Charles said. Rolling to the side to dodge another wolf. The sound of bone shattering was heard. Its organs were scattered on the ground. Dying the white snow a deep crimson.
"I think they are just dumb." Neko defended her point. Charles and Gabriel looked unamused.
"Look at them, they are all skin and bones with literally zero muscle mass." Gabriel said pointing out the facts. As the Ice Tusk blew it trunk as a storm of snow was shot out of it. Both Charles and Gabriel were barely able to dodge the attack.
"You thought we could have taken this thing on." Charles commented. Both of their eyes filled with shock. "Also I thought you guys hunted for these things." Charles commented.
"Well you see we go after the calves and the old and weak." Gabriel said with a small grimace. Both of them started to run away.
"Never speak of this?" Charles asked.
"Agreed." Gabriel said with a nod.
