Chapter 1 - Chapter One

"FUCK YOU!!!!"

"FUCK YOU, RILEY!!!!!"

Edge screamed into his phone in anger as he stood inside the subway. He noticed people were now looking at him as he ranted but he didn't care. Not when the one person he cared for in the world was doing the unthinkable and on the call. He still couldn't even believe his ears.

"You're breaking up with me!" Edge spat in anger, nearly biting his tongue. "After I caught you sleeping with my best friend! How fucking heartless can you be!"

Edge's brain nearly snapped when he heard a small chuckle, and instantly he shot a harsh glare at the offender, so deadly that it made him choke on the carton of milk he was drinking and quickly turn away from the warning danger.

"You know what," Edge continued back into the phone, his voice bitter and raw. "You're right, I should let it go. I'm done with you. You're a bitch and you'll always be one! Fuck you!"

He ended the call with such force that it nearly cracked the screen on his phone. Silence had now returned to the subway, but people were still staring at him, some in amusement, some in annoyance, some in confusion, and some in anger. It was understandable as he was in public, but he was certainly not going to give them that satisfaction.

"What the fuck are you looking at!" Edge yelled, glaring at all of them in rage. "Fuck off!!"

Immediately, as if a switch had been flipped, everybody averted their eyes back to what they were doing or had been staring at previously. Edge watched them turn away then he took a deep breath before sitting down.

"You okay, Edge?" A female voice beside him called out.

Edge slowly looked at the girl to his left. A bombshell of a beauty. She was tall, fair, with long, gorgeous blonde hair that cascaded down her back. Her violet eyes twinkled at him as he stared at her.

He didn't answer but turned away and began to press his phone. He heard her take a deep breath before she spoke again. "You're still angry at me?"

"What do you think?" Edge fired back, sarcastically.

"I told you I'm sorry, Edge." The girl pleaded softly. "I shouldn't have said that last week. I was angry and it just slipped out. I promised I didn't mean anything by it."

"Sorry is not gonna change anything, Emmy." Edge spat in anger. "You insulted me. You called me a negro, Emmy. Of all the people in the world, my old sis is the first one to say it to me. Why?"

"God, I was stupid," Emmy replied sadly. "Please forgive me. I shouldn't have said that."

Edge was torn between anger and sadness. It felt like he was just someone anyone can insult or use and nothing will happen to them, only him. First, his older sister racially insulted him out of anger and now his girlfriend just dumped him over the phone. His life was gradually growing bad by the day.

He ignored Emmy and opened the webnovel app on his phone. He went to the library section and clicked on the book he had saved the night before. He began to read the latest chapter as the subway continued to take people to their destination.

The story he was reading had intrigued him the moment he read the synopsis. But he didn't have the money to unlock the premium chapters the moment he finished the free chapters. He had worked in a grocery store until he had enough to pay. Now that they were on a long ride, it would be useful to pass the time.

"What are you reading, Edge?" Emmy asked softly, trying to start another conversation.

Edge rolled his eyes and then snapped. "You know, the moment you open your mouth, my anger keeps on spiking. You don't know when to shut up or when to stop acting as a bitch that thinks everything will be all right if you keep on talking!"

He watched as her hurt face gradually saddened but he didn't offer an apology. He didn't even care.

"Young man!" A granny called out, angrily. "You don't want to get kicked out, do you? Stop talking to your sister that way!"

"Shut the fuck up, you old tortoise!" Edge spat back. "No one asked for your opinion so fuck off!!"

He turned back to his phone and continued reading the story deciding to ignore everyone who called or spoke to him. The story he was reading was about a noble who was framed and disgraced by his fiancée and his best friend and exiled but swore he would have revenge on the empire.

The plot was simple and straightforward, engaging Edge immediately. As he tapped on the next chapter, trying to calm down from the rage in his heart, his eyes blurred and his ears began to ring. He couldn't breathe, it was like he was drowning.

His eyes were closing as his phone slipped from his grip into his lap. He struggled to keep them open but it was futile. Was he...losing consciousness?

His thoughts were a blur and sweat was dripping from his forehead as he sank back into the hard seat. He noticed Emmy staring at him and then she smiled.

"You must be tired from all that shouting, right?" She spoke softly, as she reached out and placed her hand on his head, and then guided him onto her shoulder. "Sleep on my shoulder. I want to show you how sorry I am."

Edge found himself on her shoulder as the train ran through the rails. The subway began to whirl in colours as the pain ensued. The small chatters and his sister's talk faded, their voices faded, everything faded. After what looked like eternity in pain and darkness, he opened his eyes and found himself in a peculiar situation.

A situation whenever expected but changed his life forever.
