Chapter 41 - Chapter 41 The Toad Of Awakening, The Beginning Of The Prototype Of The Mutant Legion

Siberian Ice Plains — Headquarters of Mutant Evolution

Lancelot stood within the vast, empty base. It looked like a miniature city, and excitement shimmered in his eyes.

This would be the beginning of his mutant kingdom.

The Soviet Union had a sparse population—Lancelot could move people around freely without concern.

"My lord, I've brought several companions from the First Base of the Mutant Evolution Institute," Mystique Raven said as she approached with a group of scientists while Lancelot surveyed the base.

"Very good, Raven."

Lancelot looked at Mystique with satisfaction, nodded, and gestured for her to stand beside him before turning his gaze to the others.

"My king!"

Under Lancelot's gaze, everyone dropped to one knee, shouting his title with fervent devotion.

Though these people were old-fashioned in mindset, they were brimming with vitality—each of them more energetic than most youths.

Especially Dr. Leonard and Dr. Graham, who stood at the front of the scientists.

Dr. Graham was nearly seventy years old, yet his eyes were still sharp and bright. Half of his once-white hair had turned black again.

As for Dr. Leonard, his transformation was even more astonishing. Once frail and elderly, he was now tall and upright, the wrinkles on his face completely gone. If not for his gray hair, he looked younger than thirty.

"Congratulations, Doctors. It seems the vitality serum and anti-aging extract have both been successfully developed," Lancelot said calmly, smiling without a hint of surprise.

On the path of evolution, mutants had already gone far—but these scientists could help them go even further.

From the long-term perspective of Earth's civilization, wasn't science itself a kind of genetic mutation, a variation of civilization?

Long ago, the Mutant Evolution Institute, led by Darwin the Evolution Master, had conquered every human disease except cancer.

After that, Dr. Leonard began studying Sabretooth Victor's healing factor, while Darwin led the scientists in extreme experiments compressing cellular vitality.

Despite the tight schedule, by combining the full strength of the Institute's scientists, they successfully developed two drugs suitable for both humans and mutants:

The Vitality Serum and the Anti-Aging Serum.

The Vitality Factor—also known as a cellular activity stimulant—was a special factor Darwin discovered during his continuous evolutionary adaptation. Like a stimulant, it energized every cell in the body, yet had no side effects.

Once the vitality serum was perfected, it was mass-produced and distributed to all members of the Mutant Evolution Institute.

These scientists often treated it like food. Whenever they felt tired, they would inject a vial and immediately return to their research.

Because of this, the Institute's bioengineering technology advanced at an exponential pace.

"My lord, you and your mutant brethren are the beacons of biological evolution. Any achievements we've made were guided by these beacons," Dr. Leonard said passionately, looking at Lancelot with heartfelt sincerity.

Only after joining the Mutant Evolution Institute did Dr. Leonard truly understand the meaning of the word "mutant."

Just as Lancelot had once said, mutants were the guiding lights of human evolution—great explorers and great leaders.

"Come. Take me to see how my mutant companions are doing now," Lancelot ordered, waving his hand.

"Yes, my king," Dr. Leonard and Dr. Graham replied, nodding as they instructed the scientists behind them to prepare an ultra-luxury vehicle for Lancelot.

Mutants, as symbols of evolution and glory, were required by Lancelot's decree to live in the inner city of the base.

Humans lived in the outer city.

Of course, humans who made outstanding contributions to the base were allowed to live in the central district—just like these scientists.

Ten minutes later, Lancelot and his group stopped before a massive experimental complex in the city center. This was the core of the entire base, guarded inside and out by agents of the Evolution Institute.

Inside the building, scientists were conducting complex-looking experiments. Lancelot didn't stop to observe, instead following Dr. Leonard straight to the top floor.

There, Dr. Leonard led him to several enormous liquid tanks.

The metal chambers were filled with green solution, inside which physically mutated mutants were submerged.

"First, Mr. Matthew Harlan was the most enthusiastic about injecting the mutation growth hormone," Dr. Leonard said excitedly as he stopped beside one tank.

Days earlier, after Lancelot ordered the previously recruited mutated mutants to receive the growth hormone, Dr. Leonard had been busy overseeing the process.

To prevent accidents and record data on physical mutations and aberrations, and with their consent, all injected subjects were placed into the metal chambers.

Their awakening process was recorded by specialized experimental equipment.

Click.

Dr. Leonard pressed a button. The metal chamber opened, and the liquid drained away like a receding tide.

The mutant toad inside stretched lazily, as if waking from hibernation, then leapt out of the chamber.

"My king."

The toad's head had fully returned to a normal human appearance. The sticky, heavy sensation that once plagued his body was gone, and he felt completely relaxed.

With a single leap, the toad crossed a distance of five meters. He knelt on one knee before Lancelot, gazing at him with fanatical devotion, as though worshipping a god.

"Matthew, my mutant companion, show me your abilities," Lancelot ordered, glancing at the toad-man Matthew Harlan.

"Yes, my king."

Matthew dropped to all fours. His body rapidly expanded, swelling as if inflated. In mere seconds, a giant toad over three meters tall stood before Lancelot.

A massive mouth, powerful jaws and teeth, an extremely hardened skull, and jagged armor plating covering his body—his enormous form crouched on the ground like a giant.

"My master, this is my awakened state. I call it the Demon Toad," the giant toad declared, opening his mouth and releasing a thunderous sound—half croak, half booming drum.
