Synopsis
In the high-fantasy novel Athesis: The Quest of Karius, the aging King Zeidna of the planet Athesis organizes a brutal competition among his children—the warrior Hellion, the wizard Hal, and the elementalist Lylah—alongside a mysterious, low-born contestant named Orion to determine the next heir to the throne. The stakes escalate when the kingdom's sacred Quilizila sword is stolen by monstrous Takkas, forcing the rivals into a reluctant alliance as they trek through the treacherous Desman Forest and the Valley of Death. Their journey becomes a test of true character rather than just raw power when the druid Nazen strips them of their magical abilities for thirty days, forcing them to survive on martial skill and strategy alone. Ultimately, the quest transforms Orion from a perceived commoner into a legendary Great Sage, leading to a climactic battle against armies of stone-turning Imoogis and a final revelation that secures the future of the empire while forging a new legacy through his bond with Princess Lylah.

Chapter 1 - Fall of the mighty

As the battle raged on, swords were swinging like it was the end

of the world. The soil couldn't take any more blood, for it flowed like

a river. The clouds were as black as a black sheep's wool, lightening

from wizard and druids striking from point to point turning to ashes

one that was a planet destroyer.

To everyone it was the noisiest war since the beginning of

revolution, but to one man it was the quietest one. As he knelt

down, tears rolling down his cheeks, he wasn't sure about what

really hurt him. Was it because of the klin blade stubbed into his

heart that he felt so much pain, or was it betrayal? He felt the warm

flow of blood rushing out of his own body, one hand on his stubbed

chest, the other holding his sword tight in his hand.

"How the mighty have fallen, rose up like a celestial, I became

great with my power and yet here I die like child who is blindfolded"

he said as he was grasping for air, his voice cracking. "I wish I had

followed what the oracle had told me, I was warned" he said in a

soft cracked voice like a whisper as he looked straight seeing the

traitor approaching him. He could see people moving around, but

he couldn't hear them speak as the klin blade drained his life from

him. "Protect the saage!" Shouted a warrior at a distance, "Orion!

Orion!" shouted another warrior at a distance, but the voice wasn't

just for any other mere warrior, it was Hellion his brother.

Orion slowly turned around his head to look at his brother, his

heart stopped beating when he saw Hellion holding Karius, his little
