Kael
The blade plunged into her chest before I could reach her.
I was running, had been running for what felt like hours, my wolf pushing me faster than should be possible. But it wasn't fast enough. It was never fast enough.
"Kael!" Her voice was desperate, terrified, calling for me through our shared link. I could feel her terror and the closer I got to her the worse it got. "Kael, please!"
I burst through the final door just as the silver blade drove home. I watched her amber eyes go wide with shock and pain. Watched her drop free from the chains that had held her in suspension in the middle of the room, her hand pressing uselessly against the wound that was already blooming red across her white dress.
"No!" The word tore from my throat as I shifted back to human form, lunging forward to catch her before she hit the ground. "Orianna, no, stay with me, please—"
