Raymond knew her too well by now. He knew how much she still clung to pieces of the past even when those pieces kept cutting her open. He knew how deeply she still wanted to believe that the people who had hurt her the most were not entirely beyond redemption.
This… this would destroy whatever hope she still had left.
Raymond closed the file and inhaled slowly, but the breath did nothing to settle the storm building inside him.
"I need to go home," he said at last.
Roman blinked, surprised by the suddenness in his voice. "Okay, sir. Should I call your driver, or do you want to drive yourself?"
For some reason, Roman felt the need to ask. Raymond looked both angry and shaken, which was not a combination Roman saw often. His boss was a man who rarely let anything truly rattle him, but whatever was inside that file had clearly struck a nerve.
Raymond stood up, still holding the file in his hand.
"I want you to drive me home."
Roman nodded immediately. "Yes, sir."
