Chapter 36 - Ch 36 A Drop for a Kingdom

Leo stood in the center of his new stone hall, the interface for the 3-star Artifact Banner glowing before him. Each pull cost 150 Sanguine Essence, a steep price, but he needed more than just numbers to win this trial; he needed quality. "Let's see if Lady Luck can bless us today," he muttered.

He tapped the screen four times in a row, spending 600 SE.

The first three manifestations were practical but lacked the spark he sought. A Storage Ring manifested on his finger, followed by a high-tensile Crossbow and a Voice Transmitter Talisman. All were of the Uncommon grade, solid equipment for his rising officers, but nothing that would make an impact.

'Come on,' Leo thought, his jaw tightening as the fourth pull began to take shape.

The interface didn't spark green. Instead, a spectral blue light filled the hall. When the light subsided, a delicate vial rested in the air, containing a liquid that seemed to possess its own malevolent consciousness.

[Vial of Abyssal Shadow (Low Grade) — Consume to obtain a low-grade bloodline]

"Goal!" Leo's shout echoed off the high stone ceiling. He snatched the vial, feeling the cool thrum of the pulsating blue liquid through the glass. But as he prepared to claim the power for himself, the system intervened with a clinical rejection.

[Notice: Host possesses Supreme Primordial Bloodline (Sealed). Low-grade bloodlines cannot be integrated.]

'Should I feel blessed to have a supreme bloodline, or desperate because it is locked away?' Leo mused, staring at the vial. With his own path barred for now, he turned his focus outward. He exited the hall just as the sun broke over the horizon, painting the Crimson Village in hues of gold and amber.

The human subjects were already stirring, huddled around small cookfires. Leo's presence brought an immediate, heavy silence to the square.

'This community needs structure,' Leo decided. He looked over the forty survivors. The newer summons were still vacant and hollow, but the veterans were beginning to show the sparks of true sapience. He signaled for the man who had shared his meat skewer the day before—a blonde-bearded man with a steady gaze.

"Step forward," Leo commanded.

The man knelt, his body tense. "My Lord."

"Tell me, what does this territory lack most?" Leo asked, testing the man's perspective.

The man hesitated, then spoke with surprising clarity. "Lord, we have safety under your shadow and food by your mercy. But we lack a voice to guide us when you are away hunting. We need someone to maintain your order while you are on the front lines."

Leo smiled, a rare expression of genuine approval. "Well said. From this moment, your name is River. You will be the voice of the people."

River's face lit up with a fervor that bordered on religious. "This servant will not fail your grace, my Lord."

With a leader appointed for the laborers, Leo moved to the next phase of his logistics. He initiated the Camp Kitchen, a sturdy facility equipped with basic tools. Chef Dork immediately took charge, drafting four workers to prepare a communal breakfast. The scent of roasted meat and wild herb soup filled the air, a luxury that boosted the morale of every living soul in the camp.

"Luna," Leo said as he finished his meal, "you are now the Territory Administrator. You will manage the warehouse and the logistics. Ren will remain by your side for your protection."

Luna stopped eating, her eyes wide with shock. "You are serious? You would trust me with the keys to your entire treasury?"

"I would," Leo replied. 'Because you are bound to me by more than just trust,' he added silently.

Returning to the throne room, Leo summoned Malphas and Akul. He held the vial aloft, the blue liquid glowing in the shadows. "What do you make of this?"

Akul's reaction was immediate. "Incredible! A concentrated essence of the abyss! My Lord, to possess such a thing... you must have the favor of the dark gods themselves!"

Leo swallowed hard. 'It seems bloodlines are even rarer than I thought,' he mused, clutching the glass tighter.

"And you, Malphas?" Leo asked. "You have been my shield. Do you wish to take this power?"

Malphas knelt with a clatter of dark iron. "It is my greatest honor to serve you, my Lord. While I am overjoyed by the thought, I do not think this would assimilate with my nature properly."

"The Commander is wise," Akul interjected. "This blood is for those who dance in the dark. It is for the shadows."

Leo's choice was clear. He summoned Vespar. The shadow-kin appeared before the throne, kneeling without a sound.

"Vespar, I offer you an evolution," Leo said, his voice echoing in the vast stone silence of the hall.

"Lord, if I may interrupt," Akul interjected, his purple eye-fires flickering with an unholy light.

"Speak."

"If you were to contribute even a single drop of your own blood to the vial, I believe the resonance would do more than just grant her a bloodline. It could forcibly elevate her existence to the Rare grade," Akul said, his gaze frantic and hungry for results.

Malphas stepped forward, his heavy armor clanking. "Lord, you must be cautious. Your blood carries the essence of your supreme bloodline. Distributing it to others, even in small amounts, may diminish your own chances of awakening your true power."

Akul remained silent after the warning. He had provided the path; the decision rested solely with the Sovereign. Vespar remained motionless on the cold stone floor, her expression a mask of absolute obedience, her eyes never rising above Leo's boots.

"Take it," Leo ordered, his voice devoid of hesitation.

"Yes, my Lord," she replied, her tone as sharp and cold as a winter blade.

She consumed the abyssal essence in a single, fluid motion. But as the liquid crossed her lips, Leo flicked a single drop of his own crimson blood into the mix.

'Let us see if the blood of mine can really force the hand of fate,' Leo thought as he returned to his throne.

The hall was suddenly plunged into a metaphysical storm. The spectral blue of the abyss clashed with the domineering crimson of Leo's essence. Vespar's body became the battlefield for two ancient powers. Shadows lunged from the corners of the room, weaving a violent, pulsating cocoon around her that hummed with the sound of a thousand whispers.

Akul watched with a manic grin, his skeletal fingers twitching. "Magnificent! The Sovereign's blood is acting as a catalyst! It is stripping the impurities from the abyssal line!"

When the pressure finally reached its peak, the cocoon imploded.

Vespar stood at the center of the dais, transformed into a masterpiece of shadow and blood.

Her crimson hair flickered, with blood eyes that take away breath,

Her presence was no longer just stealthy; it was suffocating. She had become something that didn't just hide in the dark—she owned it.

[Evolution Finalized: Shadow-kin to Abyssal Nightshade] [Rank: E] [Grade: Rare] [New Ability: Blood-Shadow Step — Can teleport through shadows and leave a corrosive blood-clone behind.]

Vespar turned toward Leo, her violet eyes now holding a black halo that mirrored his own authority. She vanished into a mist of blood and shadow, reappearing instantly at his right hand, kneeling in perfect silence.

"My Lord, I feel the pulse of every shadow in this vicinity. Your will is my life," she whispered.

Leo leaned back, feeling the faint, lingering ache of the blood he had given. He looked at his new Rare-grade assassin, then at the 625 Sanguine Essence still in his pool.
