The moment I stepped into school, my brain switched modes.
Tired. Curious. Nosy.
Perfect combo.
I spotted Chantelle immediately.
"CHAN," I said, grabbing her arm. "You're not escaping. Tell me. What happened between you and Andrew last night in the SDR."
She froze.
Then sighed.
"Must you ask first thing in the morning?"
"Yes," I replied proudly. "It's my duty as your best friend."
As we walked toward class, she told me everything—the awkward silence, the confession, the way he stood in front of her, the words he said.
I stopped walking.
"You're dating."
She nodded.
I gasped. "YOU'RE DATING."
"Lower your voice!"
"I WILL NOT," I whispered loudly.
We laughed, still talking, still distracted…
Until we reached the classroom door.
And saw the paper on the board.
TEXT — TODAY
Silence.
I slowly turned to Chan.
"Of all days," I said softly, "today?"
She groaned.
"Why does happiness never last with us?"
I sighed, walking in.
Love confession at night. Academic betrayal in the morning.
