Chapter 2 - Smitten

Throughout the entire day, Ella couldn't stop thinking about her conversation with Cyril. They hadn't talked about anything serious, nothing intimate—but her cheeks kept heating up every time she remembered his texts

During literature class, the teacher asked her a question. She couldn't answer. Her mind was completely elsewhere, wandering through the messages she and Cyril had exchanged. She looked around helplessly, then mumbled an excuse and rushed to the bathroom.

Staring at her reflection, she whispered to herself, "What's wrong with me? It's just a random conversation… nothing serious."

But her heart didn't seem to agree.

Some girls passed by and gave her weird looks, probably thinking she was crazy for talking to herself. Ella barely noticed. She kept repeating, "It's just random… he doesn't fall easily… it's not like I'm actually looking for anything…"

The day dragged on. Literature. Math. Biology. English. Every class blurred together. Her mind was trapped in those messages ,the jokes, the random questions, the little bits of himself Cyril had shared. She couldn't wrap her head around it. And yet… she couldn't wait for school to end, just so she could go home and text him again.

During break, she met Kenny at the cafeteria. He tried talking to her a few times, but Ella was in her own world. She barely registered his words, staring off into the distance, lost in thought.

"What the hell's your problem, Ella?" Kenny finally asked, irritation mixing with concern. "What are you thinking about?"

Her cheeks turned red. She bowed her head and said nothing.

Kenny just shrugged. He knew. He had known Ella well enough to see it coming, she had already fallen head over heels for Cyril after just one day of talking. He was truly happy for her. There was so much stress in her life, and maybe this… maybe this was what she needed.

But a pang of sadness hit him. She had only talked to Cyril for one night, and already she was completely smitten. Kenny had always had a crush on her too, but he had never said anything. He didn't want to ruin their friendship.

The bell rang, ending the break. Classes passed, but Ella's mind never returned to the lessons. When school ended, Kenny tried asking if they could go out for ice cream,he knew how much she loved it.

"No," Ella said for the first time ever. "I need to go home… I have some things to do."

Kenny raised an eyebrow but didn't press it. "Okay… see you later , I guess."

Ella didn't linger. She sprinted out of school, hopped on her bike, and rode home, leaving Kenny frozen in the hallway, staring at her with an unreadable expression.

Kenny adjusted his backpack and walked to his car, thoughts tangled. What is happening with her?

Atleast she seems happy that's good , that's all I want for her happiness.
