Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: Power lies in the hearts of people

Egon's understated remark made Hugh's heart pound violently.

"I am willing, Your Highness!" Hugh immediately knelt on one knee without hesitation, pledging his loyalty.

"Very good." Egon drew his longsword and rested it on Hugh's shoulder. "I accept your fealty, allow you to offer your loyalty, and become my sworn shield."

Egon knew Hugh had ambitions, even from the first moment he saw him.

But he didn't care; power lies in the heart of man!

It was a good thing that Hugh had ambition and desire; people without desire were the most difficult to deal with!

Then Egon told Hugh to go back and pack his bags, and he would arrange for someone and a ship to take him back to King's Landing.

Speaking of returning to King's Landing, Egon's mouth twitched.

The wound on Dreamfyre's belly definitely couldn't be hidden, and he would probably get another severe beating then.

"Alas, when will I grow up? It's so inconvenient to do anything when you're too young," Egon sighed.

If he had the power of choice, he would rather choose to start as the gay Laenor Velaryon.

That would be easier to operate than Aegon Targaryen II.

But who made him transmigrate as Egon?

Now Viserys was in his prime, and Otto Hightower had been sent back to Oldtown.

He was only seven years old, and there was really too little he could do.

However, he was not too anxious.

Under his guidance, Helena did not become as withdrawn as in the original work, and Dreamfyre could barely be considered combat power in his hands.

When 120 AC, the "Year of the Bloody Spring," arrived, Laena and Daemon's son died shortly after birth, Laena died three days later, and Laenor was killed in a struggle.

The Black Party successively lost two Dragonriders with combat capability, suffering heavy losses.

And Vhagar, the largest existing Dragon ridden by Laena, would likely be tamed by Aemond.

That would be the time for Egon to show his capabilities!

By evening, Alec arrived at Dragonstone with a squad of sworn shields, and as soon as they met, he rushed to Egon.

"Your Highness, are you alright? Where are Prince Aemond and Princess Helaena?"

"Relax, they are in Egon's Garden, well, playing all day."

Egon tried to struggle, not wanting the incident with The Cannibal to be known by others.

Anyway, as long as others didn't have absolute proof, he would be stubborn to the end.

It was best not to get beaten, and even if he got beaten in the end, at least he tried and gave up!

"Oh, right, I'll be back tomorrow, and you need to help me bring a few people," Egon quickly changed the subject.

"Bring a few people?" Alec was a bit confused. "Your Highness, did you come to Dragonstone to find someone?"

"Don't worry about that. The person will be here tonight. I'll have him find you later, and you make the arrangements."

"Okay," Alec agreed.

In the evening, Hugh brought his wife to the Stone Drum Tower.

"My lord, my name is Hugh, and His Highness asked me to come."

Hugh came to the front of the Stone Drum Tower and explained his purpose in a low voice.

The sworn shield's expression remained unchanged; Egon had already informed him.

"You come with me, I'll take you to see Ser Aric, and he will take you to King's Landing."

As he spoke, the sworn shield glanced at Hugh and added:

"You are lucky to be valued by Prince Egon; it seems the seven gods are favoring you."

The sworn shield's words made Hugh's heart sink.

The more Egon valued him, the greater his pressure became, and the more he worried about not doing well, fearing he would waste this precious opportunity!

After a long sigh of relief, Hugh met Alec.

Seeing the other party in shining armor, with a white cloak draped behind him, his expression immediately froze, and he couldn't help but feel a little nervous.

But fortunately, he had met Egon before, so he wasn't so nervous as to lose his composure.

"My lord, I am Hugh, and this is my wife, Martha."

Martha looked very nervous. After Hugh returned home overjoyed earlier, he kept saying he would make her a noble lady.

She thought Hugh was joking with her, but she didn't expect him to bring her directly to the Stone Drum Tower.

"Don't be nervous, Your Highness values you greatly. Tomorrow morning, I will take you to King's Landing."

Then Alec arranged a room for Hugh and Martha and assigned two maidservants to attend to Martha.

After Alec left, Hugh closed the door and personally helped his wife onto the bed.

"Hugh, I'm a little scared." Martha held Hugh's hand tightly.

Hugh kissed the back of Martha's hand and comforted her, "I know what you're worried about, but the opportunity is in front of us now, and I must try!"

"But weren't we doing well with the blacksmith shop?" Martha asked, puzzled.

"Yes, we can indeed eat our fill by blacksmithing, but what about our child?"

The fire of ambition burned brightly in Hugh's eyes.

"If it's a son, I hope he can become a knight, or even a baron, an earl!"

Hugh gently stroked Martha's swollen belly, his face filled with expectation and longing.

That was nobility; even the lowest-ranking landed knight had living conditions that a blacksmith couldn't compare to!

Moreover, Prince Egon said that as long as he rendered meritorious service, he would be rewarded with a title, land, and a castle!

Martha sighed. She knew her husband had some dissatisfaction in his heart.

Hugh kissed Martha's forehead one last time.

"Don't worry, get some rest. Do you remember what my mother said?"

Martha quickly covered her husband's mouth and warned in a low voice, "Although Prince Your Highness values you, you must never lose your sense of propriety, understand?"

"Understood!" Hugh nodded heavily.
