Chapter 121 - Chapter 121: Adoption

Chapter 121: Adoption

After killing Schmidt, Mason instantly deactivated his Limit Burst state, picked up the energy weapon Schmidt had dropped, and fired several shots to eliminate the soldiers who rushed at him.

"Phew!"

He exhaled deeply, catching his breath slightly.

Because the activation time was relatively brief, the strain on his body wasn't too severe, and Mason's aftereffects this time were much milder than before.

He now understood that the correct way to use Limit Burst was to activate and deactivate it in short bursts. If he could master this technique, it would greatly extend his combat effectiveness.

In fact, hearing the sounds of battle outside, not only Schmidt but also Mason was getting anxious, which was why he didn't continue fighting Schmidt conventionally but activated Limit Burst to end it quickly.

Mason stood up and retrieved the Tesseract from the corner.

"Dr. Zola, come out. We need to leave here."

Dr. Zola, who had been hiding nearby, stood up shakily. He looked at Schmidt's broken body and couldn't help but feel a chill.

This powerful man, who called himself a god and whose influence spanned all of Europe at his peak, had died so unceremoniously in a laboratory.

Mason recalled the other nine operatives scattered throughout the base and ordered them to move valuable equipment onto the aircraft.

"Dr. Zola, you need a change of workplace. Is there any equipment that needs to be relocated?"

Dr. Zola adjusted his glasses and scanned the area.

"I only need to take most of the experimental data."

"Schmidt once built me a private facility that wasn't recorded in Hydra's official files. It's fully equipped and only needs minor modifications to continue research."

"However, if I'm alone, I can't conduct any meaningful work."

Mason was pleased.

"Don't worry, as long as the funding is there, you can have as many research assistants as you need."

To allow the aircraft to take off normally, a massive hangar had been carved into the mountain, and several planes were stationed on the platform.

The largest was Schmidt's personal aircraft, carrying all the weapons he had manufactured.

Mason didn't board this plane but chose another cargo aircraft instead. The gunfire outside was intensifying. He ordered his operatives to properly secure Schmidt's body and load it onto his plane.

Everything was ready, and the plane's engines were warming up, preparing for takeoff, when Mason suddenly remembered something.

He went to a specialized containment area in the laboratory and found Hellboy locked in an observation chamber.

Seeing Mason approach, the little red creature's eyes lit up with recognition, and he started babbling excitedly, calling out "Papa!"

"Papa?"

Mason smiled, pulled out a chocolate bar, opened the chamber, and Hellboy quickly jumped into Mason's arms, hugging his neck tightly.

Then he snatched the chocolate from Mason's hand, devouring it in seconds, and immediately reached out for more.

"Having a kid like this isn't bad!" Mason said with a grin.

Hellboy's bloodline was extraordinary, far from ordinary; in the films, he could flip a speeding vehicle with raw physical strength alone.

Furthermore, due to his supernatural heritage, he was immune to fire damage and had considerable resistance to explosive force.

And all of this was with his horns filed down.

The two horns on his head were both a symbol of his identity and a manifestation of his power. If he could fully harness the power that came with the horns, Hellboy's strength would likely have even greater potential.

From any perspective, raising this kid would be a worthwhile investment.

The movie plot had already proven that he possessed complete sentience and could be guided and educated through proper nurturing.

"Let's go, we'll find you a new home!" Mason carried Hellboy and quickly boarded the plane.

He ordered the aircraft to take off, and only after it had cleared the tunnel did he reactivate the communication device.

Carter's relieved voice came through, "Damn it, Mason, what are you doing? Your comm was offline the whole time, everyone thought..."

"What's the situation outside?" Mason asked without explaining.

"With your sabotage, the entire base is in chaos. Hydra forces are retreating on all fronts. Steve has led his team to the core sector and will reach the command center soon!"

Just then, Mason heard an officer's voice through the device, "Report! An aircraft has launched from the Hydra base and departed, heading in an unknown direction!"

"Find a way to shoot it down!" Carter commanded.

"Wait!" Mason quickly countermanded Carter's order.

"I'm inside the cargo hold of that plane, pursuing Schmidt. Please give me some time!" Mason said, maintaining his cover.

"What! You're with Schmidt?"

"Do you need backup?"

"Trust me, it'll be fine. I'll contact you after the operation is complete." He then deactivated the communication device.

Dr. Zola wiped the sweat from his forehead, watching Mason sitting calmly, deceiving Carter.

"Sir... where are you taking me?"

Mason marked a location on the map and handed it to the Hydra operative piloting the aircraft.

"Go here!"

"That's a flat ice field. While it can't compare to a proper airstrip, it's sufficient for us to make an emergency landing!"

"Yes, sir!"

Upon receiving Mason's order, the pilot changed course and flew toward the location Mason had indicated.

The entire operation went incredibly smoothly. Mason, using the pretext of pursuing Schmidt, successfully launched an aircraft from the Alps base, extracting the nine most valuable enhanced operatives and Dr. Zola.

Meanwhile, near the location Mason had marked, Kardashian, bundled in a thick winter coat, stood in the snow, gazing at the distant sky.

"Ma'am, are you certain this is the place?" A tall female bodyguard, no less imposing than most men, asked Kardashian.

Kardashian nodded. "If Mason says it's here, then it's here. He'll come. Let's wait a little longer!"

This woman, Monica, had been rescued from Eastern European traffickers by Kardashian's organization. Kardashian helped her escape and start anew, after which Monica devoted herself completely to Kardashian, remaining utterly loyal.

"Ma'am, is this Mr. Mason your husband?" After a moment's hesitation, Monica asked with some curiosity.

In her eyes, Kardashian was a role model for all women—beautiful, intelligent, and possessing remarkable wealth; she was a true icon.

She simply couldn't imagine what kind of man was worthy of someone like Kardashian!

Just then, the roar of aircraft engines echoed from the distant sky. A black dot gradually grew larger, its fuselage descending toward the group.

"He's here!"

Kardashian's face brightened with joy as she watched the landing plane. She glanced back at Monica.

"If I could be his wife, that would be absolutely perfect!"
