In the beginning, God said let there be light, and with it, he created the heavens, the earth, and everything in between.
To rule and manage his creations, he created the Dragons. Winged and scaled beasts as cunning as they are ruthless, or at least they will become ruthless.
Only 12 exists, each with a law that controls aspects of the world, and in the beginning they all showed complete devotion to their father, and ruled the lands with peace and prosperity.

That all changed when God created an a being in his image, a new favorite son. Quickly, the humans spread like a flame, the once lush lands the Dragons maintained were tainted. But the lands were still innocent and bound by peace.
Until one ancient and foolish human king sought the Dragon of life and begged to let him live forever. But when the Dragon refused, the king sought vegengance. He and his army tortured and held the dragon captive, they feasted from his flesh, stole his scales, bones, and blood.
It outraged God, but he granted the king his wish. He plucked the king from his chambers, burned and bound his flesh to his gilded throne. Chains wrapped around him, maggots and insects of all types feasted on his flesh as he had done to the Dragon of Life.
Those humans who knew the taste and blood of Dragons and their descendants forever became tainted. Several sub species branched from that first human sin. Elves, Dragon Kin, Orcs, and more.
Legend has it each race is based on the organ those humans ate.
Despite the King's punishment, God refused to punish the rest of humanity.
The Dragons in their grief, sought to right this wrong double fold. Until half of humanity was wiped and eaten. Those that remained sought refuge in captivity and worshiped their Dragon slavors as Gods.
While others used the original sin to corrupt God's laws and create magic and weapons to fight the Dragons.
God was furious by this pointless war. So he punished both sides for their sins. The Dragons by ridding them of their flesh forms.
From ancient accounts, all Dragons suddenly turned into stone. On 11 of the 12 continents a Dragon's bodies became hollowed out by humans, as a testament to God's grace.
As punishment for their Wrongs against Humanity, he forced the souls of the 11 remaining Dragons into human forms.
The Dragon of Flame despised his new form, he united the humans to revolt against God using his own corrupted laws.
God delt with the uprising as a man waves away a fly.
Since humanity was so desperate to follow the Dragons, he gave them their wish. Humanity will forever be bound to serve those that bare the souls of the Dragons.
